Mammoth Travel Guide | California Travel Tips
California travel expert Veronica Hill offers a Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Mountain Travel Guide in this episode of California Travel Tips.
Mammoth Mountain is located 11,000 feet above sea level in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. This central California hideaway, located just east of Yosemite National Park, doesn't get a huge amount of play in guidebooks. But just one visit to this charming mountain village and you'll be hooked.
The Eastern Sierras are legendary for their beauty, and Mammoth is no exception. Though it's best known for its winter sports, Mammoth is just as fun when there's no snow on the ground.
At the Main Lodge Adventure Center, kids can go rock climbing, rush down a quick-moving zip line, or go mountain biking on more than 100 miles of dirt single-track.
This is also where you'll pick up the Reds Meadow Shuttle into the Ansel Adams wilderness, where you can either hike or ride on horseback to beautiful Rainbow Falls.
If you come to Mammoth during the summer, you have to take the gondola ride to the top where you can go hiking, biking and check out a great interpretive center.
At the Sierra Interpretive Center, you'll learn that Mammoth is actually part of an active volcano chain — though the chances of a major eruption are slim. While you're there, pop into the cafe where you can enjoy a sandwich and soda while gazing out at the beautiful Eastern Sierras.
Though there are several great Mammoth hotels to choose from, we always stay at the Village, an alpine resort with great restaurants, super shopping and one of the best pools in town!
The Village at Mammoth condos are right on the slopes, with daily maid service, a spacious lobby and heated swimming pool. Our family has been staying here for years, and we love its convenience to the gondola and village center. If you prefer a hotel, the Westin Mammoth is right across the street.
The Village is also home to some great Mammoth restaurants, including Lulu Mammoth Restaurant and Bar, an outlet of the famous San Francisco eatery. The Old New York Deli and Bagel Shop is a cheap and delicious place to grab breakfast. Another great dining choice is Side Door Cafe, where you can linger over a delicate crepe and glass of fine wine.
While you're there, don't miss the free red trolley rides around town. It's a great way to explore the village and nearby Mammoth Lakes, which boasts some of the best fishing in California.

Mammoth Lakes
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie & Kate hiked, biked and camped in Mammoth Lakes, California. Mammoth is best know for its great skiing but it is also an amazing place to visit in the summer. It has beautiful scenery, crystal clear lakes and streams and tons of outdoorsy thinks to do. We enjoyed the paved bike trails that took us by several of the Mammoth lakes, the marked hiking trails that went on and on and the quiet campsites that were nestled in the woods. Mammoth offers stocked fishing, horseback riding, gondola rides, mountain biking, ziplining and much more. Notable stops that we recommend are the hike to Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls, a stroll through Agnew Meadows amidst all the blooming wild flowers, and a leisurely bike ride along the Mammoth Lakes Basin Trail. In addition, Mammoth is only an hour south of Yosemite National Park's, Tuolome Meadows. Mammoth is also well know for its many festivals throughout the year, the Mammoth Brewing Company, and the Mammoth Mountain Adventure Park. As a cheap family we enjoyed all the things we could do for free. We highly recommend visiting Mammoth, especially if you enjoy the outdoors.

Yosemite/Mammoth/Devils Postpile 2011
Fourth of July weekend 2011 spent in Yosemite National Park, Mammoth, and Devils Postpile National Monument. Quite a weekend indeed.
Mono Lake 4x4 Trail 4K
This runs along the old Bodie & Benton Railroad Grade on the North Shore of Mono Lake. There are two sections where tire pressure will need to be lowered in order to pass, but beyond those two it's pretty easy.
It was smokey from the multiple fires in Yosemite National Park, but I assume when clear you get beautiful views of the mountains. Wild horses apparently roam the area at times too.
Crystal Lake Recreation Area

The Crystal Lake Cafe is just across the street from the campground.

Mammoth Trip 2019 | Edpao Getaway
Our family loves revisiting Mammoth. It's one of our favorite places in the world. So many memories and so much beauty all around us. I featured some of the go to places to check out when in Mammoth. First mandatory stop is Erick Schat's Bakkery. They have a lot of pastries and delicious sandwiches. My favorite is the pastrami sandwich. You gotta try it! Next on the list is June Lake. Explore the June Loop and hit up all of the lakes. It's honestly beautiful all year round. Mono Lake is a unique experience, and I hope you add it to your own bucket list. The Tufa towers and the amazing views are not to be missed. Lastly, we made a quick stop at Convict Lake before we headed back home. The ice was already melting, and I can imagine how pristine it must be during the summer.
Thanks again for watching our video. Stay tuned for more family fun!
