Hey Guys !!
I went on a backpacking trip across Kerala in the month of November 2018 with a brand called Zostel. While Kerala, because of it's serene and quaint nature is usually a hotspot for travellers, this year however is not very crowded probably because people still think that it is not safe to travel to Kerala because of the floods, well as you can see in the video , the places are all dried up and completely safe to travel and in fact since this year is not so crowded, it is actually the best time to travel to Kerala.
Here is a link to Kerala Part 1 KOCHI video
To get to Alleppey from Kochi, I opted for a local KSRTC super fast bus, which was very comfortable and was squeaky clean. Ticket price INR 54.
If you are planning a trip to Alleppey, then here is my itinerary
DAY 1
1. Bike / Scooty ride in Alleppey, trust me it is quite an activity to do in Alleppey because of the butter smooth roads and the beautiful landscape.
2. Marari Beach
It is around 15 kms from Alleppey, super tranquil and Pretty.
Day 2
1. Explore Backwaters
You have multiple options to do the same:
i. Ferry
ii. Shikara
iii. House Boat
iv. Canoe
v. Kayak
If you want to explore the smaller canals, the last two are the only options available as the bigger boats cannot enter these narrow canals. (I highly recommend you guys to explore this in Alleppey)
Day 3
Visit Karumady (15 kms towards south of Alleppey)
Its is famous for the the half broken Buddha Statue.
Other Information
Accomodation: Zostel
Local Travel
Scooty rented from Zostel.
It is easily available everywhere.
Local buses and autos are also easily available and they go pretty much everywhere.
I hope you like the video.
Kerala Backwaters | Alleppey Houseboat Tour | Alappuzha Boat House Experience
Kerala Day 2 : Alleppey
Two Roving Hearts chose Alleppey as our destination for our second day in God's Own Country. We took a day-trip on a gorgeous Alleppey house boat in Kerala with our family. In this video, we take you on a short tour of the houseboat while travelling serene Kerala Backwaters and give you a glimpse into our amazing experience here. The staff was amazing, polite, helpful and made the journey so enjoyable.
We also enjoyed traditional Kerala cuisine for lunch; with produce caught straight from the river and cooked fresh for us right there on the house boat. For lunch, we devoured the famous Kari Meen / fried fish, giant river prawn, chicken, papad, long bean bhaji, cabbage bhaji, sambhar and rice. The food was absolutely scrumptious.
It was a mostly lazy day of us taking in the sights and sounds of the backwaters. Chill day and perfect if you want to do nothing but rest and destress.
Alleppey Houseboat Rates / Price:
All-in-all, our day trip hiring this complete Alappuzha boat house to ourselves with 5 of us travelling came up to INR 11,000/-, with a taxi from Cochin to Alleppey (now known as Kochi) and back included. This was the Alleppey houseboat rates for one day.
If you love serenity, you will love this Alleppey boat house. Relaxing, delicious food, and just what we needed to start our amazing Kerala vacation. Got in some much needed down time!

Alleppey has a wonderful past. Though the present town owes its existence to the sagacious Diwan Raja Kesavadas in the second half of 18th century, district of Alappuzha figures in classical Literature. The best thing about Alappuzha and Kerala in general is the weather. Due to its proximity to the ocean it is more temperate than central India. The temperature rarely goes above 35 degrees Celsius and never below 20 degrees. The best time to visit is from September to March. Monsoon is always heavy. Now a days monsoon tourism is also popular from June to August.

A Visit to India - Part 58: Kerala Backwaters by Houseboat
24th August 2013
Our hosts booked us on a day tour to the backwaters of Alleppey. Our taxi picked us up at 8:30 and took us to Ernakulam. Then we transferred to a minibus, where there were already seven other passengers, an English couple, a father and daughter from Bangladesh, an Indian couple with a baby and another Indian man.
We were driven to the place where the houseboat would leave from and were given a cup of tea while waiting for another couple -- from mainland China.
We enjoyed the ride on the houseboat, through the backwaters of Alleppey and eventually stopped at a village where we shown various methods of fishing and other points of interest, such as toddy-tapping. We were offered the choice of having some mussels cooked with coconut for 75 rupees. Yoong wanted to try them, and they were very tasty.
When we returned to the starting point we were served lunch on the boat -- very nice home-cooked vegetarian food.
