Paris 4k, France - Rue de Buci - Walking tour
Rue de Buci is one of the oldest streets in Paris. It is first found in records dating back to the 12th century, occasionally with the spelling Buci, Bussy, Bucy or Bussi.
The Porte de Buci took its name from Simon de Buci, the first President of the Parliament of Paris, who bought the gate in 1350 in order to earn money from the taxes paid on merchandise entering Paris. It was also known as the Street that stretches from the Pilori to the Porte de Buci because of a pillory that stood next the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés…
It's a great area in Paris, cafés and restaurants all around, with almost pedestrian streets. It's no wonder so many people in cafes in the evening.

Rue de Buci, the authentic spirit of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris. The village feel in Paris.
This is one of the areas where I spend a lot of time. Not only it is lined with restaurants and cafés, it is also a wonderful spot for people watching, having a drink, and/or enjoying a meal. Such experiences have been part of the unique spirit of Saint-Germain-des-Prés for many years. Attracting both French people and tourists, the area is usually busy and interesting. One of the oldest streets of Paris, the Rue de Buci is famous for its liviliness and charming market. Its paved streets give it a village-like feel. Its origins date back to the 13th century. At this time, it was spelled various ways, including Buci and Bussi. A name it owed to its owner, Simon de Buci, the first President of the Parlement of Paris in 1341. De Buci bought the street in 1350 in order to benefit from its goods tax.

Sunday morning in Paris, an authentic scene. Rue de Buci, Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
An authentic Paris scene, Rue de Buci, a traditional market street in the chic St-Germain-des-Prés district. This site makes a relaxing area to stroll and simply take in the scene. Filled with cafés, bars, delicatessens, bookshops, and bakeries. This little street is vibrant with life day and night. It has everything one imagines St Germain should be. It even has its own jazz band during the weekends. My favorite café, Le Bar du Marché 0:56, 2:11, 3:49 with its excellent location to people watch... Having a café au lait on a Sunday morning while watching all the beautiful people of Paris go about their day is priceless. With locals coming and going from their errands, tourists wandering the streets, well-heeled Parisians shopping in small boutiques, it's endless entertainment. Rue de Buci is also a meeting place for younger Parisians 5:10, 5:24, 5:26, 5:28. This is the place to notice the latest trends. Leather leggings, white sneakers topped with a fur coat seem be the ideal outfit for a lazy Sunday morning. Enjoy!

Rue de Buci, Paris
Walk on the rue de Buci, near our place in Paris. Our dog hates traveling minstrels and troubadours, we brought her up well.
Walking Down The Rue de Buci in Paris
It's all about the food on the little Rue de Buci in Paris. This street is one of the most typical in the St. Germain des Pres area with its market, food shops, restaurants, hustle and bustle at all hours of the day and night.
Since this was a Sunday walk, the main market was closed but there were plenty of patisseries, food shops, restaurants and people strolling and eating. A short distance from Place Saint-Michel and always fun to walk through.

A Walk Down Rue Saint-Denis, Paris
Rue Saint-Denis is one of the oldest streets in Paris. Its route was first laid out in the 1st century by the Romans, and then extended to the north in the Middle Ages. From the Middle Ages to the present day, the street has been notorious as a place of prostitution. Its name derives from it being the historic route to Saint-Denis.
The street extends as far as the 1st arrondissement and Rue de Rivoli to the south and as far as the 2nd arrondissement and the boulevard Saint-Denis to the north. It runs parallel to the boulevard de Sébastopol.
The ancient Roman route (Flanders road) leading to Saint-Denis, Pontoise and Rouen it competed with the route de Senlis, but gained an advantage over it with the demolition of the Grand Pont and the development of the royal abbey of Saint-Denis, becoming the triumphal way for royal entries into the capital.
Flanked by houses from 1134 onwards, the street has borne the alternative names of Sellerie de Paris and Sellerie de la Grande Rue (13th century) ; grand'rue de Paris ; grande rue or rue des Saints Innocents et grant chaussée de Monsieur / Monseigneur Saint-Denis (14th century). During the French Revolution, it was known as the rue de Franciade.
The street was one of the centres of the June Rebellion of 1832, immortalised in Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables, and which is referred to in the book as the Epic of the Rue Saint-Denis

A Walk Up Avenue Victor Hugo, Paris, France
Avenue Victor-Hugo is an avenue in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. It begins at place Charles de Gaulle (also known as the Étoile) and ends at place Tattegrain (becoming avenue Henri-Martin). It is one of the twelve avenues beginning at the Étoile, and the second longest of the twelve, after the avenue des Champs-Élysées.
Its junction with the Étoile is between those of the avenue Foch and avenue Kléber. It runs along the colline de Chaillot. Halfway along it is place Victor-Hugo and the Line 2 Metro station Victor Hugo. Originally named avenue de Saint-Cloud, it was renamed avenue Victor Hugo in 1881.
Crossing the whole northern part of the 16th arrondissement, over 1.825 km from the Étoile to the Muette, it is an average of 36m wide (its first part, between the Étoile and the place Victor-Hugo, is wider than the second part, between place Victor Hugo and place Tattegrain). Planted with trees and decorated with a statue of its namesake at the junction with avenue Henri-Martin, it is one of the most prestigious avenues in Paris.
It includes several buildings by Pierre Humbert, such as numbers 122 and 167 (the latter built in 1911 for Humbert's family). Humbert also built number 124, on the site of the hôtel particulier where Victor Hugo spent his last days (having as his address Mr Victor Hugo, In his avenue, in Paris).
The Avenue was renamed after Hugo on 28 February 1881 (the day after his 79th birthday). The 1907 building's magnificent façade won several prizes and includes a sculpture of Hugo's face by Fonquergne. The Haitian president Lysius Salomon died at number 3 on 19 October 1888.
A Walk Around Marche' St Germain, Paris
