Jan Brown invites everybody to visit the Marco Gonzalez Mayan Site in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The site was recently named an official archaeological site by the Belize Archaeological Department of Belize.
Marco Gonzalez Maya Site Hosts Summer Solstice Ceremony & Blessing of the Site
On the southern end of Ambergris Caye, Belize is a 2,000 year old Maya ruin that is still in the stages of excavation. Marco Gonzalez is the only On June 21, 2014 the summer solstice was celebrated with a ceremony and site blessing from Maya priest Martin Choc. 82 year old Choc traveled from the San Marcos Village in the southern district of Toledo, accompanied by his grandson to assist in translating, as Mr Choc only speaks Q'eqchi Mayan. Over 40 people attended the incense and candle burning ceremony, while flute and drum music was performed by legendary flutist Pablo Collado.
The Marco Gonzalez Maya Site is the first, and only National Reserve on an island in Belize.

Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, signed the final Statutory Instrument (SI) making the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site and official Archeological National Park on Friday, April 1, 2011. Highlights of a winter trip to Central America ~ Belize; mainly the island of Ambergris Caye, Lamanai Mayan ruins on the mainland and Caye Caulker.
This marked a reunion (28 years in the waiting) with my long lost friend - Tamara, who (along with her mom and several new San Pedro peeps) has graciously given me and my mate a super cool holiday that we'll never forget.
