(Originally made for Media Communications Course, CAT125, at UC San Diego by me. As such this video is a personal project, and was not sponsored or authorized in any way by the San Diego Maritime Museum) The San Diego Maritime Museum is one of the finest collections of historic vessels in the world. Located in sunny San Diego California right on San Diego Bay. Walk the decks of the worlds oldest active sailing ship, the 151 year old Star of India. Take a selfie with an actual movie star, the H.M.S. Surprise, featured in both Master and Commander: Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe and Pirates of the Caribbean IV: Far Side of the World with Johnny Depp. Tour a Soviet Era Fox-Trot Russian submarine as well as the worlds deepest diving submarine, the U.S.S. Dolphin. Enjoy the beautiful stain glass windows aboard the Berkeley, a 116 year old ferry boat. Take a tour of the bay on either the Pilot boat, the worlds oldest active pilot boat at 100 years old. Or the Vietnam era swift boat. Or spend 4 hours sailing outside of the bay on the official tallship of the state of California, the Californian, a 30 year old topsail schooner. Whatever you choose to do at the museum, its sure to be a memorable experience.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego, established in 1948, preserves one of the largest collections of historic sea vessels in the United States. Located on the San Diego Bay, the centerpiece of the museum's collection is the Star of India, an 1863 iron bark. The museum maintains the MacMullen Library and Research Archives aboard the 1898 ferryboat Berkeley. The museum also publishes the quarterly peer-reviewed journal Mains'l Haul: A Journal of Pacific Maritime History.
The Maritime Museum at the Star of India Wharf is located on the west side of North Harbor Drive, between the ends of Ash Street and Grape Street, south of San Diego International Airport. Starting in 2011 the Maritime Museum of San Diego built a full-sized, fully functional, historically accurate replica of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo’s flagship, San Salvador. The replica was constructed in full public view in the bayside Spanish Landing park in San Diego, giving people the opportunity to watch a living recreation of the first modern industrial activity in the Americas.
She was launched in 2015 and is stationed at the San Diego Bay Embarcadero as part of the Museum's fleet of historic and replica ships. She opened for public tours in September 2016 in conjunction with the Maritime Museum's annual Festival of Sail. Later that month she is expected to start making coastal tours up the California coast.

Cruise visitors calling on the Port of San Diego will have an easy walk from the dock to the museum. Just look for the mast of the tall ships along the embarcadero until you arrive at the entrance gate.
