ANDREW SCHOULTZ: In Process: Every Movement Counts
June 2 - September 15, 2018, Opening Reception: Saturday, June 2, 5 - 8 pm.
The UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art invites you to experience In Process: Every Movement Counts, a new work and a museum-wide installation by Los Angeles-based artist Andrew Schoultz at the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art from June 2 to September 15, 2018. Fusing museum space with the dynamic energy of streets and skateparks, Andrew Schoultz makes art that asks questions about the reality of contemporary life and global power. His installations and murals juxtapose ideas from illuminated manuscripts, ancient cartography, and the flattened space of Persian miniatures. Images of beasts, bricks, trees, and eyes surge across the walls, bringing different elements of the artist’s mark-making vocabulary into play as he charts a struggle between visual clarity and complex truth. The exhibition is curated by Andres Guerrero.
An opening reception will be held at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on Saturday, June 2nd, from 5 - 8 pm. Parking is free in student, staff, and metered spots. Driving directions can be found here.
A graduate of the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, multimedia artist Andrew Schoultz has held solo exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. His public murals are visible on walls in Manila, Philippines, and Jogjakarta, Indonesia, as well as on skate parks, an airplane, and a Tesla. Schoultz’s work is held in the collections of numerous institutions, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles Contemporary Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, and the Honolulu Art Museum. His latest skatepark redesign took place here in Las Vegas, where he painted the Clark County Winchester Cultural Center Skate Park in partnership with Clark County and the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. The Barrick Museum and Winchester Cultural Center hope this collaboration will bring enjoyment to skaters, families, and visitors for years to come.
For over 20 years, Los Angeles-based artist Andrew Schoultz has created an expansive world through which the viewer loses oneself. Schoultz has always had a deep connection and involvement within the communities he's worked, whether it's through murals or public involvement. Schoultz's exhibition with the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art in Las Vegas is no different, whether it's the artist's transformation of the Winchester Cultural Center Community Skatepark or participatory elements within his museum show, Schoultz's worlds are built upon inclusive spaces through which we can explore our collective creativity, said Andres Guerrero, curator of In Process: Every Movement Counts.
During the course of Andrew Schoultz: In Process: Every Movement Counts the Barrick will offer two free Community Art Days on June 22nd and August 3rd from 9am-5pm with creative activities and live performances for all ages.

Tamar Ettun's Jubilation Inflation: Jubilation Inflation unifies different areas of the Tamar Ettun's practice in a multifaceted examination of trauma, healing, and radical empathy. This solo exhibition consists of several parts. At the center, there is an intimate compartment containing an installation of interactive audio work. It is surrounded by mixed media sculptures, a selection of experimental videos, and four inflatable room-sized environments where visitors will be enveloped by a climate of vivid color.
Soundscapes: Exploring Anthropophony: Soundscapes explores the sounds we use — both deliberately and unconsciously — to connect ourselves to the people around us. From Mesoamerican clay whistles to work by contemporary artists such as Charles Clough, this group exhibition roams through history to ask us how people have created sound in the past and how we experience sound now. Curated by Chelsea Adams, UNLV English Doctoral Student.

Gabriel Royal: Singer-songwriter and cellist, Gabriel Royal, plays his “grown-up lullabies” in New York’s subways, where he connects to his inspiration: New York’s commuters. You can hear his jazzy, poppy brand of crossover right here in Las Vegas.

⚫️ Seven magic mountains ( DRONE )4k
Renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s colorful large-scale, public artwork Seven Magic Mountains is a two-year exhibition located in the desert outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring seven thirty to thirty-five-foot high dayglow totems comprised of painted, locally-sourced boulders.
Visible across the desert landscape along Interstate 15, Seven Magic Mountains offers a creative critique of the simulacra of destinations like Las Vegas. According to Rondinone, the location is physically and symbolically mid-way between the natural and the artificial: the natural is expressed by the mountain ranges, desert, and Jean Dry Lake backdrop, and the artificial is expressed by the highway and the constant flow of traffic between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Seven Magic Mountains is produced by the Art Production Fund, New York and Nevada Museum of Art, Reno. Approximately 10 miles south of the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway in Henderson, the installation site is a short distance from Jean Dry Lake where Michael Heizer and Jean Tinquely created legendary land art works in the 1960s. Many of the project’s public programs will take place at ARIA Resort & Casino, and partner locations in Nevada, including the Marjorie Barrick Museum on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
