Mary's Rock, also known as Marys Rock, is a 3,514-foot (1,071 m) tall mountain in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, United States. The peak is just south of the Thornton Gap Entrance of the park, and north of the taller Pinnacle. Mary's Rock is the eighth highest peak in Shenandoah National Park.
Two trails lead to the summit of Mary's Rock. One which starts from the Panorama Visitor Center and the other which starts from the Meadow Spring Parking Area. The trail from Panorama is somewhat longer and steeper, and is generally considered more difficult. It follows the white-blazed Appalachian Trail. The other trail is shorter and somewhat less difficult. The summit of the rock offers views of the northern section of Shenandoah National Park and Page Valley.

Hiking the snowy Pass Mountain Trail, Shenandoah National Park
Hiking in the freshly fallen snow in Shenandoah National Park, December 8, 2011
Reddish Knob: Awesome Views from Shenandoah Mountain
At 4397 feet elevation, Reddish Knob is the highest point of Shenandoah Mountain. It is the 22nd highest peak in Virginia and the 8th highest for West Virginia. Although you can hike to Reddish Knob from at least 3 different trailheads, you can also drive right to the summit. Short on time, I opted for the road trip in this mini adventure. Located along the Virginia and West Virginia state line, in the George Washington National Forest, the ridge line of the mountain in this area divides Augusta County, Virginia and Pendleton County, West Virginia. I drove west of Harrisonburg, Virginia out to the national forest and headed up the mountain. Once arriving to the state line and the crest of the mountain, I took a left onto a forest road, winding mainly on the Virginia side at first, then switching over to mainly the West Virginia side before finally climbing up and running along the crest of the ridge and then circling around to the summit of Reddish Knob. This was once the site of a fire tower, whose piers remain, as well as a large parking area and open summit. Magnificent views in all directions, including the spine of Shenandoah Mountain, the Rockingham County high point at Flagpole Knob on Slate Springs Mountain, the upper Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains towards the east, the southern tip of Massanutten Mountain, and spectacular views of the Allegheny Mountains towards the west, including the awesome Spruce Mountain. The U.S. Naval radar station is also easily visible in the valley below. Thanks for watching!

Tibbet Knob Hike at Great North Mountain
Great North Mountain divides Virginia and West Virginia in the area of Shenandoah County, VA, and Hardy County, WV. West of the Virginia town of Woodstock, in the George Washington National Forest is Wolf Gap Recreation Area. This is the most popular start point for both Big Schloss and Tibbet Knob. The Tibbet Knob Trail is short but rated difficult due to steep terrain and a couple of spots that require rock scrambling. The reward for the effort is the awesome view from the rocky cliffs near the summit of the knob. This hike is slightly less crowded than the more popular nearby Big Schloss hike. I didn't see anyone on the trail. I encounter some patches of ice and deep snow which added to the difficulty. I was unable to even video one of the scrambles due to the ice.

The Peak - Shenandoah National Park
Still pics and HD video of a 5.9 mile hike along the Mt. Marshall Trail to Thoroughfare Gap, then up to the summit of The Peak. I did not make it completely to the summit due to the trail being completely overgrown.

The Peak is a 2,925 foot mountain located in the northern section of the Shenandoah National Park. The Peak is an outlier jutting off of the main ridge into the Piedmont to the east. The Peak is just shy of 1000 feet of clean prominence, which is significant for the area.
The trailhead is located at 'Thoroughfare Gap' where the Mt Marshall trail and Jordan River trail intersect.
In terms of accessing the trailhead you have 3 possible approach hikes:
1. From the Gravel Springs Gap parking area on Skyline Drive. From here start downhill on the fire road until you reach the Gravel Springs Shelter where you will pick up the Bluff Trail. Continue on the Bluff Trail for 3.8 miles then turn right onto the Mt Marshall Trail. In .4 miles you will reach Thoroughfare Gap. (I took this route).
2. From the Jenkins Gap parking area on Skyline Drive. Cross Skyline Drive and travel south along Skyline drive for .2 miles until you reach the Mt Marshall trailhead. Turn left and follow the trail 4 miles until you reach Thoroughfare Gap.
3. From Mt Marshall Rd (VA 625), follow the Mt Marshall trail approximately 1.25 miles to Thoroughfare Gap.
4. From Bean Hollow Rd (VA 229), follow Jordan River trail approximately 1.6 miles to Thoroughfare Gap.
