Munich, Englischer Garten - Germany HD Travel Channel
The Englische Garten (German for English Garden) in Munich, Germany with almost 4 km², belongs to the largest parks in the world which may be used publicly by everyone. It was designed by Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell for the Palatine Elector Carl Theodor and his successor Joseph Maximilian I.
Various leisure activities can be used; it is cozy to enjoy a beer at the Chinese Tower or at the Seehaus, or you just sit on a park bench, watching the nature.
The Monopteros, a round Greek style temple on a hill often serves as a meeting point and as viewing platform for the skyline of the city center. The Schönfeldwiese (Schönfeld meadow) in front of the Monopterus and the Schwabinger Bach, a small river in the English Garden, are known as nude sunbathing areas during the summer months.
For dog lovers, the English Garden is a paradise. The landscape is in large parts almost unspoiled, primarily in the northern area in the Hirschau between middle ring and the Aumeister beer garden.
The park is very popular for horse riders, even if they only lead their horse.

Munich beauty

Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Angel of Peace
The Angel of Peace is a monument in the Munich suburb of Bogenhausen. The architects were Heinrich Düll, Georg Pezold und Max Heilmaier. Of all the monuments in Munich's green open spaces, few are as striking or dominating as Friedensengel, or the Angel of Peace, a bronze beauty in Maximilian Park close to the Isar and Englischer Garten. And one of the best views of Munich can be had from the top of the monument, although you will have to unfortunately be a drone or similar to get up there, but this is what it looks like:
Built to commemorate 25 years of peace after the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71, the monument consists of an open space with fountain, with two staircases leading to the observation deck, above which is a replica of the Nike of Paeonius, a 6-metre statue of the Angel of Peace. The foundation stone was laid in 1896, and the monument finally unveiled on July 16, 1899. The bronze angel fell from the column in 1981, after which it was restored and returned to its rightful place on top of the column.
The Angel of Peace is part of the Maximilian Park and a point de vue at the eastern end of a line of sight forming Prinzregentenstrasse. Next to the Isar, slightly elevated above street level, is an open space with a fountain; this has a dolphin waterspout surrounded by four smaller waterspouts. Two staircases lead to the observation deck . A column 38 metres high and in the Corinthian style is located here, on top of which is a six-metre statue of the Angel of Peace. It is a replica of the Nike of Paeonius.
The Angel of Peace is a reminder of the 25 peaceful years after the Franco-German war of 1870/71. The monument with its small temple shows the portraits of the German Emperors William I, Frederick III, Wilhelm II, the Bavarian rulers Ludwig II, Otto and Luitpold, the Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and the generals Helmuth von Moltke, Albrecht von Roon, Ludwig von der Tann, Jakob von Hartmann and Siegmund von Pranckh. In the hall of the temple are gold mosaics which depict the allegories of war and peace, victory and blessing for the culture.
The foundation stone was laid on 10 May 1896; the unveiling was on 16 July 1899. The sculpture of gilded cast bronze was a collaborative work of the architects were Heinrich Düll, Georg Pezold and Max Heilmaier. The Putti Fountain is a work of Wilhelm von Rümann. When the Angel fell from the column in 1981, it was taken away so that the significant damages could be repaired. After having been restored, it was put back on its column in 1983, its leg and both wings having been replaced. The position of the wing is steeper compared to its original state.

Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Bavarian National Museum
Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Bavarian National Museum
The Bavarian National Museum (Bayerisches Nationalmuseum) in Munich is one of the most important museums of decorative arts in Europe and one of the largest art museums in Germany. Since the beginning the collection has been divided into two main groups: the art historical collection and the folklore collection.
The museum was founded by King Maximilian II of Bavaria in 1855. It houses a large collection of European artifacts from the late antiquity until the early 20th century with particular strengths in the medieval through early modern periods. The building, erected in the style of historicism by Gabriel von Seidl 1894-1900, is one of the most original and significant museum buildings of its time. It is situated in the Prinzregentenstraße, one of the city's four royal avenues. The house replaced an older building which houses today the Museum Five Continents. Already in 1905/06, the museum was expanded to the north by a few rooms and a workshop wing. German Bestelmeyer added a wing at the southeast corner in 1937.
The main building of the Bavarian National Museum includes on three floors exhibition rooms with in total about 13,000 square meters. The core of the collection dates from the art collection of the Wittelsbach family. This gives the National Museum an importance far beyond the local area. Diversity and breadth of the collections, however, were particularly motivated by the new additions to the subsequent period. To date, the inventory is updated continuously not only through acquisitions, but also by significant foundations and bequests. Support experienced by the National Museum, in particular, by the 1960 launched club Friends of the Bavarian National Museum.
The National Museum has several branch museums throughout Bavaria. A new building behind the museum houses as addition the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection (Archäologische Staatssammlung) from the first settlement in the Paleolithic Ages through the Celtic civilization and the Roman period right up to the early Middle Ages.
The art collection displays artworks in a tour through more than forty rooms from the hall for late antiquity and Romanesque art via the rooms for Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo art to the exhibits of Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau. The western side wing of the museum houses The Bollert Collection with late medieval sculptures. The folklore collection houses for example traditional Bavarian furnitures, rural pottery, crockery and religious folklore including an outstanding collection of Neapolitan, Sicilian, Tyrolian and Bavarian wood carvings including street scenes and Nativity Scenes.

➡Here is the Free Walking Tour:
2:58 - 3:08
1. U-Bahn - It's rare to want to take a metro ride just to see the stations, but in Munich it is worth it. The station stops are colorful and make for great photo shoot locations.
3:10 - 3:50
2. Marienplatz - The central plaza where you can watch the bell tower come alive with the Glockenspiel, which plays three times a day.
4:00 - 4:20
3. Hofbräuhaus - History, beer, traditions... and cool architecture too.
4:26 - 4:55
4. Max-Joseph Platz - The central square where you can find the royal residence and opera house. It is marked by the central statue of Maximilian who ruled Bavaria.

5:05 - 5:17
6. Fünf Höfe - The beautiful shopping street filled with hanging gardens.

8. Englischer Garten - This park is larger than Central Park in New York, filled with music and wonderfully landscaped English gardens.
6:41 - 6:52
9. Feldherrnhalle - A central plaza where locals gather for festivities. It is also marked by the two lion statues.
7:05 - 7:48
10. Schloss Nymphenburg - The royal residence and summer palace built in 1664. The interior and exterior gardens are beautiful to photograph.
7:49 - 8:12
Oktoberfest - This festival occurs from the last two weekends of September to the first weekend of October to commemorate the wedding of King Ludwig I, which was so extraordinary that they decided to celebrate it each year - and hence Oktoberfest was born. I went last year and the spirit of the festival, unity of people from around the world, and celebration of Bavarian culture was unmatched by any other festival.

Walking around Tutzing, Starnberger See and Munich
Last year we traveled to Germany. On this day, we were staying in a small village by Starnberger See and our friend Oliver picked us up and took us to Munich.
We took a walk through Maximilian Park to see the Angel of Peace, then on to Käfer-Schänke for lunch.
