Bell Pass DH - McDowell Mountain - Fountain Hills, AZ
One of the longer descents in the greater Phoenix area, however, fast and flowy it is not. It’s also a pain to get to. The view from the top is rewarding, though, and if you don’t mind a slower paced descent with a lot of chunk, it’s not too bad. Also, this is about the only downhill in the valley that actually gives me those arm pump feels. Sorry for the length on this one but I wanted to share most of trail on this one...the video cuts out at the end as the descent starts to mellow out. I climbed up Windgate Pass and then over to Bell Pass but honestly, if I did this again, I'd just hike up Bell Pass as it'd probably be faster.

Hiking The Mcdowell Mountains AZ
Here is some footage I took of me and my friend Max hiking down the Mcdowell mountains in PHX Arizona. The video can be shaky at times, but it was the best I could do when jogging down a trail holding a camera haha. I just figured it would be cool to let people who don't live here see what the AZ desert can look like. We hiked up and then back down the same side. The entire trail is massive, the most I have done of it is like 5 miles.

A very windy, cool-ish day in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Arizona. Recent rains have made things much more green than normal, with very short grass growing everywhere. I was fortunate to have made the acquaintance of two new friends. I am always amazed at how tall these things grow, particularly given their shallow root systems. Looking at many of these cacti, I am also wondering how closely related they are to conifers. They grow from a single leader, and when the lower arms escape the dominance of the growing tip, then they too can reach for the sky. I've observed that same pattern in the conifers of British Columbia.
