Merchants Millpond State Park: Kayak on the pond / cypress swamp.

11/27/15: a short video from my #optoutside anti Black Friday kayak trip on Merchants Millpond State Park & Cypress Swamp. Managed to paddle almost the entire pond today from launch, to the other end and back. Approximately 4 miles.

The pond itself it's loaded with Bald Cypress and Swamp Tupelo trees and their buttressed bases, with branches festooned with Spanish Moss. One of the homes of the North American Alligators. Unfortunately none were see this day in spite of it being warm, sunny.

Other species found here are the Bobcat, Black Bear, Otters, Beavers, and Muscrat, Barres Owl. Ancient fish swim in these waters, some nearly unchanged since the time of Dinosaurs such as the Longnose Gar.

Today we hiked a few trails and Kayaked the pond / swamp and the weather couldn't be better. This is a very delicate, rare / and endangered eco type, habitat / forest wetland that typically covered much of the southeastern United States.
