Mike the Tiger: LSU mascot plays with a ball in the water!
During our visit to Baton Rouge, we stopped at LSU to check out the campus. Their mascot, Mike the Tiger, gave us a show by swimming and playing with a ball. Enjoy!

Mike the Tiger has one of the finest habitats in the USA, if not in the World.
Mike's HISTORY follows, but first please read the NOTE I have posted below concerning Tony, the truck stop tiger.
***NOTE: This was not to compare or criticize or discredit or disrespect Tony, the Tiger Truck Stop Tiger held hostage down in Grosse Tete, LA in a concrete cage right off Interstate 10. But, since I had just left Tony and was in Baton Rouge, I thought I would give Mike a visit......this was a very bittersweet day...as you can see...how Tony so deserves such care as Mike...20 miles apart, the difference between Heaven and Hell ...so sad.. do you notice how quiet it is here on the LSU Campus? NO DEAFENING SOUNDS OF TRUCKS. NO TOXIC SMELLS OF DIESEL, etc etc
MIKE's HISTORY
The Louisiana State University tiger mascot, Mike VI, was born July 23, 2005, and came to LSU when he was two years old in 2007. At the time of his arrival at LSU, he weighed 320 pounds. His weight June 2010 was 460 pounds. He is expected to reach approximately 500-600 pounds at maturity; he will reach maturity at 5 ½ to 6 years of age.
Mike VI was donated to LSU by Great Cats of Indiana, a nonprofit sanctuary and rescue facility for big cats and other large carnivores, located in Idaville, Ind. He was moved into his home, north of Tiger Stadium on August 25, 2007, and was introduced to the LSU community on September 1, 2007. Mike was officially declared Mike VI at a ceremony held on September 14, 2007. Mike debuted in Tiger Stadium on the evening of the Florida vs LSU football game on Saturday, October 6, 2007.
Mike VI has exceeded his veterinarian, Dr. David Baker's, expectations in every possible manner. Dr. Baker says Not only is he very handsome, with markings unlike any tiger we have ever had, but his personality is remarkable. He is extremely confident, interactive, inquisitive, and friendly toward people. He appears to already be forming a relationship with his student caretakers and seems most content when they are with him.
The old enclosure for Mike the Tiger was only 2,000 square feet in size with minimal amenities. The new environment created for Mike is over 15,000 square feet in size with lush planting, a large Live Oak tree, a beautiful waterfall and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees. The habitat has, as a backdrop, an Italianate tower, a campanile, that creates a visual bridge to the Italianate architectural vernacular that is the underpinning of the image of the entire beautiful LSU campus. This spectacular new habitat features state-of-the-art technologies, research, conservation and husbandry programs. It is, in essence, one of the largest and finest Tiger habitats in the United States.

***NOTE: AND for those that may not know, check out my UPLOADS, I have many many videos of Tony...you may understand and SEE now, how disgusted I truly am with Sandlin, the owner of the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, LA where Tony is held hostage in a concrete cage with NO ENRICHMENT, NO POOL, NO NOTHING, but when all this began in the courts, Sandlin did add a tire hanging by a rope from a tree and did paint Tony's habitat purple and gold!!! (And Mike Sandlin ASKED ME TO STOP MY CAMPAIGN!!! Yeah RIGHT!!!)
Here it is now June 1, 2014 and Tony, after ALDF winning every battle in court, Ward, a Rep from Iberville Parish, created SB 250, which has passed both the House and the Senate and now lands on Gov Jindal's desk..it's in his hands now..to veto this bill, or not. Please do what you can to help Tony.
Remember, Tony lives less than 50 yards from one of our busiest Interstates in LA, I-10, at a truck stop that sells diesel fuel..Tony lives in the parking lot in abhorrent conditions.

Mike the Tiger is the official mascot of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and serves as the graphic image of LSU sports. Mike is the name of both the live and costumed mascots.
By tradition the tiger is a live Bengal tiger, although, the last two tigers were of mixed breeds. Mike V was a Bengali-Indochinese mix, while Mike VI is a Bengali-Siberian hybrid.
LSU's men's and women's sports teams are called the Fighting Tigers and Lady Tigers, respectively, and the university's football team plays its home games in Tiger Stadium. LSU first adopted its Tigers nickname in the fall of 1896. The moniker is a reference to the state's Confederate heritage; the Louisiana troops of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia became known as the Tigers during the Civil War in recognition of the bravery of two New Orleans brigades, the Tiger Rifles and the Washington Artillery .
Born on October 10, 1935, the first Mike was purchased from the Little Rock Zoo with money raised by collecting 25 cents from each LSU student for a total of $750. Originally named Sheik, the new mascot was renamed in honor of Mike Chambers, LSU's athletic trainer at the time, who was the person most responsible for bringing him to the school. Mike assumed his duties as the living symbol of LSU only three days after arriving on campus on October 21, 1936. In the 1950s, Mike was kidnapped by Tulane fans before a Tiger-Green Wave football game. He was found, and returned safely in New Orleans—he and his cage sprayed Tulane green. Mike I lived for 20 years before dying of kidney disease in 1956. He has been displayed in the LSU Natural Sciences Museum on the campus in Baton Rouge.

Drove from Houston to Baton Rouge and got to visit Mike the Tiger VII in LSU. Mike the Tiger is the official mascot of Louisiana State University and he lives in a 15105 sqft habitat that was built on campus in August 2005.

Dario Fo, the left-wing Italian actor-playwright, won the 1997 Nobel Prize for Literature. He poked fun at society’s conventions and was best known for his 1970 play, Accidental Death of an Anarchist. Joan Marie Johnson was the founder of the Dixie Cups, one of the 1960’s best-known girl groups. Their 1964 hit, “Chapel of Love”, went to #1 and they became the first American group to displace the Beatles during the initial British Invasion. Mike the Tiger was the sixth tiger mascot for Louisiana State University. He lived outside the stadium in a $3 million habitat, and he was one of the most visited tourist attractions in Baton Rouge.
Dario Fo (Italian pronunciation: [ˈdaːrjo ˈfɔ]; 24 March 1926 – 13 October 2016) was an Italian actor–playwright, comedian, singer, theatre director, stage designer, songwriter, painter, political campaigner for the Italian left-wing and the recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Literature.[1] In his time he was arguably the most widely performed contemporary playwright in world theatre.[2] Much of his dramatic work depends on improvisation and comprises the recovery of illegitimate forms of theatre, such as those performed by giullari (medieval strolling players)[3] and, more famously, the ancient Italian style of commedia dell'arte.[4]
His plays have been translated into 30 languages and performed across the world, including in Argentina, Chile, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka [5] Sweden, the UK[6] and Yugoslavia.[7][8] His work of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s is peppered with criticisms of assassinations, corruption, organised crime, racism, Roman Catholic theology and war. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he took to lampooning Forza Italia and its leader Silvio Berlusconi, while his targets of the 2010s included the banks amid the European sovereign-debt crisis. Also in the 2010s, he became the main ideologue of the Five Star Movement, the anti-establishment party led by Beppe Grillo,[9] often referred by its members as the Master.[10]
Fo's solo pièce célèbre, titled Mistero Buffo and performed across Europe, Canada and Latin America over a 30-year period, is recognised as one of the most controversial and popular spectacles in postwar European theatre and has been denounced by the Vatican as the most blasphemous show in the history of television.[1] The title of the original English translation of Non Si Paga! Non Si Paga! (Can't Pay? Won't Pay!) has passed into the English language.[11] The play captures something universal in actions and reactions of the working class.[12]
His receipt of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Literature marked the international acknowledgment of Fo as a major figure in twentieth-century world theatre.[13] The Swedish Academy praised Fo as a writer who emulates the jesters of the Middle Ages in scourging authority and upholding the dignity of the downtrodden.[14] He owned and operated a theatre company. The group hit the top of the charts in 1964 with Chapel of Love, a song that Phil Spector, Jeff Barry, and Ellie Greenwich had originally written for The Ronettes.[1] The trio consisted of sisters Barbara Ann and Rosa Lee Hawkins; plus their cousin Joan Marie Johnson, from New Orleans.[2] They first sang together in grade school. Originally, they were to be called Little Miss and the Muffets, but were named the Dixie Cups just prior to their first release.[3]
In 1963, the trio decided to pursue a professional career in music and began singing locally as the Meltones.[4] Within a year Joe Jones, a successful singer in his own right with the Top Five 1960 single You Talk Too Much, became their manager.[5] After working with them for five months, Jones took them to New York, where record producers/songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller signed them to their new Red Bird Records.[
