Military History Museum
The Military History Museum, located in Broken Arrow, houses a remarkable collection of military artifacts from almost every U.S. war from the Civil War to the present day. Military uniforms, weapons, photographs, newspaper articles and much more fill the 6,400 sq. ft. facility. Many of the items in the museum's collection come from individuals and families from across the state, lending the museum a uniquely Oklahoman perspective on the military experience.

The New Year's Attack That Turned the Tide of the Vietnam War
Until January 30, 1968, the Vietnamese New Year had always brought an informal ceasefire. But this year, the cessation of hostilities would vanish in a deadly attack on the U.S. embassy in Saigon.

Broken Arrow can best be described as a military term meaning: A code phrase that a ground unit is facing imminent destruction from enemy attack and all available air forces within range are to provide support immediately. Also can be used to describe accidental events involving nuclear weapons.
Vietnam: The Soldier's Story Doc. Vol. 1 - Ambush! Battle of Ia Drang
Superb ABC News TV mini-series - hosted by reporter and veteran Jack Smith - is a set of documentaries, with each episode providing a different segment of the Vietnam war, as seen through the eyes of the veterans of the war. With excellent interviews and rare footage.
This is the episode: “Ambush! The Battle of Ia Drang” and features outstanding interviews with the most well-known participants (host Jack Smith himself was there in the battle as a young man). The team also returns to Vietnam and to the site of the battle as it looked only 30 years after the fight.
This series first aired in October 1998 in six parts. Apologies for any technical issues with the picture or audio - this transfer was taken from an original VHS copy of the program.

The Convair B-36 Peacemaker was a strategic bomber built by Convair and operated solely by the United States Air Force (USAF) from 1949 to 1959. The B-36 was the largest mass-produced piston engine aircraft ever made. It had the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built, at 230 ft (70.1 m). The B-36 was the first bomber capable of delivering any of the nuclear weapons in the U.S. arsenal from inside its four bomb bays without aircraft modifications. With a range of 10,000 mi (16,000 km) and a maximum payload of 87,200 lb (39,600 kg), the B-36 was the world's first manned bomber with an unrefueled intercontinental range. The B-36 was the primary nuclear weapons delivery vehicle of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was replaced by the jet powered Boeing B-52 Stratofortress (which first became operational in 1955). The B-36 set the standard for range and payload for subsequent U.S. intercontinental bombers.
The genesis of the B-36 can be traced to early 1941, prior to the entry of the United States into World War II. At the time it appeared there was a very real chance that Britain might fall to the Nazi Blitz, making a strategic bombing effort by the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) against Germany impossible with the aircraft of the time.[2] The United States would need a new class of bomber that could reach Europe from bases in North America,[3] necessitating a combat range of at least 5,700 miles (9,200 km), the length of a Gander, Newfoundland–Berlin round trip. The USAAC therefore sought a bomber of truly intercontinental range,[4][5] similar to the Nazi RLM's own ultra-long-range Amerika Bomber program, which itself began in the spring of 1942.
Roughly a year before the German RLM first received the paperwork for the Amerika Bomber trans-Atlantic strategic bomber design competition, the USAAC opened up a similar, and even more demanding design competition for an American trans-oceanic ranged strategic bomber design competition on 11 April 1941, asking for a 450 mph (720 km/h) top speed, a 275 mph (443 km/h) cruising speed, a service ceiling of 45,000 ft (14,000 m), beyond the range of ground-based anti-aircraft fire, and a maximum range of 12,000 miles (19,000 km) at 25,000 ft (7,600 m). These proved too demanding — far exceeding the technology of the day — for any short-term design, so on 19 August 1941 they were reduced to a maximum range of 10,000 mi (16,000 km), an effective combat radius of 4,000 mi (6,400 km) with a 10,000 lb (4,500 kg) bombload, a cruising speed between 240 and 300 mph (390 and 480 km/h), and a service ceiling of 40,000 ft (12,000 m), above the maximum effective altitude of all of Nazi Germany's anti-aircraft Flak guns, save for the rarely deployed 12.8 cm FlaK 40 heavy Flak cannon.

The Battle of Ia Drang Valley 1965 - Vietnam Remembered Series
The Battle of Ia Drang - fought between November 14th - 18th, 1965 - was the first major battle between the United States Army and the People's Army of Vietnam, also referred to as the North Vietnamese Army.
It was part of the Pleiku Campaign conducted early in the Vietnam War. Both sides claimed victory, and some have said that Ia Drang was the battle that convinced Ho Chi Minh that he could, in the end, defeat the Americans. Three Medals of Honor were awarded from actions during this engagement.
On the morning of November 14th, the 1st Cavalry landed at Landing Zone X-Ray at the base of the Chu Pong mountain and by noon they were already under attack from the North Vietnamese. The fighting continued all day and into the night with the enemy relentlessly making assault after assault.
The North Vietnamese forces had succeeded in engaging the U.S. forces in very tight quarters. The cavalry regiment returned fire, but the enemy were dug into prepared fighting positions and many of the American leaders had died or were wounded during the initial stages of the attack.
Temperatures reached 100 degrees, and by the afternoon there was a firestorm battle for survival. Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Hal Moore and his men continued on, receiving support from artillery units and air strikes, helping the American troops hold themselves against the enemy.
During a 14-hour period, Major Bruce Crandall and Captain Ed Freeman, repeatedly landed their helicopter under intense enemy fire at Landing Zone X-Ray. They resupplied ammunition, water, and supplies, while evacuating the wounded. They saved some 70 soldiers when the Medevac units refused to fly into the intense landing zone. Both later were awarded the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest award for heroism in combat.
Before the Battle of la Drang was over, 305 Americans had been killed along with an estimated 2,000 North Vietnamese troops. American officials declared the Battle of the la Drang Valley a victory.

South African History 1652 -1902 Culminating in the Anglo Boer War & Battle at Spion Kop
Online history video on the battle of Spion Kop, the bloodiest battle of the Anglo Boer War in South Africa 1899 - 1902, where Winston Churchill reported that up to seven bombs per minute were landing on top of the Spion Kop mountain with massive clouds of orange lydite and that the British soldiers in the trenches were being blown to atoms. Known as the 'Acre of Massacre', it remains the smallest piece of ground on which more men lost their lives in a single battle than any battle fought anywhere in the world… and it is here, witnessing what the human race was capable of, that the seeds of Mahatma Gandhi’s passive resistance took root. Leading up to this moment in history are some of South Africa’s major historical events going as far back as 1652, including:
The arrival of the first settlers in South Africa and the origins of the Afrikaner people
Conflicts in the history of South Africa: 1652 – 1902
Black/White and British/Boer conflicts in South Africa: 1652 – 1902.
The British after burning many Boer farms set up concentration camps where disease was rampant which resulted in 29 000 Afrikaners and over 20 000 black people; men, woman and children dying in these camps.
