Metro is a high-capacity transport network serving the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. As of 2016, the system consists of two light rail lines (the Blue and Green Lines, operated by Metro Transit), along with the Red Line, a bus rapid transit extension of the Blue Line operated by the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority. The three lines connect Downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul with Bloomington and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, with several extensions in the planning stages.
Service along the entire length of the Green Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a rarity among light rail lines in the United States, but present on some heavy rail lines such as the New York City Subway and PATH. Metro Transit also provides 24/7 service between the stations serving the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals of MSP Airport.
Type I LRVs were manufactured by Bombardier Transportation, in its Flexity Swift design, utilizing a low floor for accessible boarding at all stations. Metro Transit operates 27 vehicles on the lines, numbered 101 through 127. Initially painted with Metro Transit livery, all have been repainted as of 2015 to reflect the Metro system branding. During this time, Type I cars also were retrofitted with colored LCD headboards for route destination displays and other improvements.
Type II LRVs are manufactured by Siemens in their S70/Avanto model. 59 vehicles have been ordered, primarily to serve the Green Line. Type II LRVs are mechanically, but not electronically, compatible with the current fleet of 27 type I vehicles, so while the two generations do run on the tracks at the same time and both types are able to push a malfunctioning unit of the other type, multiple-unit consists may only be assembled of one type. ~Wikipedia

Mall of America: Minneapolis Metro Blue Line
The biggest mall in the United States lies in the Twin City of Minneapolis. Or should I say, a little outside it. To get from downtown to the mall, Metro operates the light-rail blue line. The station is actually in one of the mall's parking lots. I tour you around the mall first before heading into the station to film a couple of trams.

Twin Cities Light Rail is a Successful Transit Solution
electrictv.net
The new green line light rail connecting Minneapolis to Saint Paul is one of the most recent and highly successful public transit projects. Providing better, cleaner transportation solutions, helping to increase the standard of living and connecting people to jobs, the transit solution has earned widespread community support. NECA chapters and local unions collaborated over several years of construction under tight deadlines and schedules to deliver a project done on time and on budget, receiving accolades from both Mayors of Saint Paul and Minneapolis for their professionalism.
Minnesota Transit Tuesday
MINNEAPOLIS. The workers who operate our transit system -- and the people who depend on that service -- rallied Tuesday in Minneapolis and across the nation for better funding at the state and federal levels.
Transit Tuesday is just one activity that Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005 is coordinating, said Local 1005 Vice President Dorothy Maki, who spoke at a rally in front of the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis.
We want our riders to know we stand with them in the fight for more, better and safer public transit, she said. Together we can ensure that our voices are heard and elected officials understand that we want them to stand up for transit.
Local 1005 represents bus drivers, light rail operators, mechanics and other employees at Metro Transit.

Minnesota is a state in the Upper Midwest and northern regions of the United States. Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd U.S. state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The state has a large number of lakes, and is known by the slogan the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Its official motto is L'Étoile du Nord (French: Star of the North).
Minnesota is the 12th largest in area and the 22nd most populous of the U.S. states; nearly 60% of its residents live in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area (known as the Twin Cities), the center of transportation, business, industry, education, and government, and home to an internationally known arts community. The remainder of the state consists of western prairies now given over to intensive agriculture; deciduous forests in the southeast, now partially cleared, farmed, and settled; and the less populated North Woods, used for mining, forestry, and recreation.
Minnesota was inhabited by various indigenous peoples for thousands of years prior to the arrival of Europeans. French explorers, missionaries, and fur traders began exploring the region in the 17th century, encountering the Dakota and Ojibwe/Anishinaabe tribes. Much of what is today Minnesota was part of the vast French holding of Louisiana, which was purchased by the United States in 1803. Following several territorial reorganizations, Minnesota in its current form was admitted as the country's 32nd state on May 11, 1858. Like many Midwestern states, it remained sparsely populated and centered on lumber and agriculture. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, a large number of European immigrants, mainly from Scandinavia and Germany, began to settle the state, which remains a center of Scandinavian American and German American culture.
In recent decades, immigration from Asia, the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America has broadened its demographic and cultural composition. The state's economy has heavily diversified, shifting from traditional activities such as agriculture and resource extraction to services and finance. Minnesota's standard of living index is among the highest in the United States, and the state is also among the best-educated and wealthiest in the nation

THE BUSES OF METRO TRANSIT IN ST PAUL MN
Metro Transit is the primary public transportation operator in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area of the U.S. state of Minnesota and the largest operator in the state. The system is a division of the Metropolitan Council, the region’s metropolitan planning organization (MPO), averaging 267,700 riders each weekday, carrying 90% to 95% of the transit riders in the region on a combined network of regular-route buses, light rail and commuter rail. The remainder of transit ridership is generally split among suburban “opt-out” carriers operating out of cities that have chosen not to participate in the Metro Transit network. The biggest opt-out providers are Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA), Maple Grove Transit and Southwest Transit (SW Transit). The University of Minnesota also operates a campus shuttle system of its own, which ranks second in the state, measured by ridership.

City Drive #015 - Minneapolis, Minnesota (Part 1) - Downtown
Kari, a former Metro Transit bus driver, gives a tour of downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is one of several videos we'll be posting of Minneapolis.
Minneapolis is the county seat of Hennepin County and the larger of the Twin Cities, the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the United States. As of 2018, Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota and 46th-largest in the United States, with an estimated population of 425,403. The Twin Cities metropolitan area consists of Minneapolis, its neighbor Saint Paul, and suburbs which altogether contain about 3.63 million people, and is the third-largest economic center in the Midwest.
Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. The city is abundantly rich in water, with 13 lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks and waterfalls; many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber. The city and surrounding region is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle. As of 2018, Minneapolis was home to 6 Fortune 500 companies, and the Twin Cities were the fifth-largest hub of major corporate headquarters in the United States. As an integral link to the global economy, Minneapolis is categorized as a global city.

#OurMN: Metro Transit Electric Buses
This summer in the Twin Cities, Metro Transit added environmentally-friendly electric buses to its fleet. These 60-foot articulated buses began providing Bus Rapid Transit Service on the C Line in June.
The C Line serves Penn Avenue from the Brooklyn Center Transit Center to Downtown Minneapolis. In addition to the reduced environmental impact of electric buses, the C Line provides faster service and additional amenities. Those amenities include off-board fare payment, security cameras, enhanced lighting, push-button heating, and more.
Metro Transit plans to continue introducing electric buses following their debut on the C Line. Funding for these buses is provided in part by our state tax dollars.
For more information on the C Line, visit:
