Mirador de Puerto de Mogan
Puerto de Mogan Gran Canaria 2019 HD
Welcome to Puerto de Mogán
West of Taurito, a couple of kilometres of rugged coastline recall what this whole southern stretch of the island must have been like 50 years ago, before mass tourism descended on the Canaries.
Finally you round a bend; below you is a tempting crescent of sandy beach and, next to it, a busy little yacht harbour and fishing port. Puerto de Mogán, although now largely given over to the tourist trade, is light years from its garish counterparts to the east. Thankfully, even the recent construction inland is more aesthetically pleasing than in other resorts along this coast.
Although its nickname ‘Venice of the Canaries’ may be a tad exaggerated, the architecture and bridged waterways are as pretty as a chocolate box, and the whole place exudes an air of opulence and charm. In the heart of the port, low-rise apartments have wrought-iron balconies, brightly coloured trim and are covered in dazzling bougainvillea.
On the downside, the place gets packed with envious tourists from the other resorts during the day, particularly on Friday morning when a street market takes over part of the town. Stalls sell the usual overpriced belts, bags and shell jewellery; if you are staying here, it’s a good day to leave.

Mogán is the second largest municipality by area on the island. It includes the fishing towns of Puerto de Mogán and Arguineguín. Much of the population lives on the Atlantic coastline. The town of Mogán is about 8 kilometres from the coast, 11 km north of Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria and 40 km south-west of Las Palmas. The GC-1 motorway passes through the south of the municipality. There is a string of tourist resorts along the coast.

Puerto de Mogán is a picturesque resort and fishing village in the municipality of Mogán, set at the mouth of a steep-sided valley on the south-west coast of the island of Gran Canaria. It attracts many tourists either to stay or on day-visits. Canals linking the marina to the fishing harbour have led to it being nicknamed Little Venice or the Venice of the Canaries. Its beach (Mogan beach or playa de Mogan) has a good reputation. Restaurants and bars fringe the marina and the beach front.
On Fridays there is a very popular market which brings in tourists from all over the island. Puerto de Mogán has very few buildings over two stories high, and the government of Gran Canaria restricts new buildings taller than this.
Puerto de Mogán can be reached via a new extension of the motorway GC1 (opened in March 2013) which terminates just to the north of the village, and is also on several bus routes. The Cats' ravine (cañada de los Gatos or Lomo los Gatos) is located at the mouth of the Mogan ravine that opens onto Mogan beach. The valley of the Sea (cañada de la Mar) was also declared Property of cultural interest as archaeological zone, in 2005.
