BARCELONA WALK | Rambla de Mar - the Wooden Walkway at Port Vell | Spain
A first-person perspective Barcelona walk tour of the areas of Rambla de Mar.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of Barcelona, featuring Rambla de Mar at Port Vell, which is a wavy wooden walkway over water. The tour begins on Moll de les Drassanes looking towards the Columbus Statue, then moves onto and along the Rambla de Mar walkway, ending on Moll d’Espanya by the Maremagnum Shopping & Dining Centre.
Sights seen along the tour include Rambla de Mar, Port Vell, Columbus Statue, Barcelona Naval Tours boat, Hotel W Barcelona, cable cars, yachts in harbour, Balearia+ ship, ‘Miraestels’ (Stargazers) sculptures by Robert Llimósand, and the Maremagnum Shopping & Dining Centre.
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!

MENSAJE:

MiraEstels, the Night, the Life
MESSAGE:
At first reading, MIRAESTELS, a floating icon, becomes guardian of the waters. With its watchful presence, it urges us to care for and respect the sea, the origin of known life. And it does so in a Mediterranean of encounters among ancient peoples, a sea of legends, history and culture, all of which today, cruelly punished by our excesses, is in serious danger and sends out a cry for help.
At the same time, the eyes of MIRAESTELS staring into heaven indicate a double vigilance. From there come the great questions and great answers; no wonder the contemplation of the celestial vault has been the main engine of scientific knowledge. Science continues to declare this: our future demands reserved areas to continue studying the stars and the cosmos away from light pollution.
Finally, MIRAESTELS also monitors other potential movements in the sky, expecting to unravel a question awaiting response, which would have the power to change everything: Are we or are we not alone in the starry and infinite cosmos?
INSPIRATION:
At the invitation of the Foundation J. Llorenc Artigas, a group of sculptors decided to pay joint tribute to the decease artist and poet, friend of all, Joan Brossa, each creating a sculpture.
The reason unanimously chosen for the inspiration comes from a collection of short poems of this singular creator: “The Saltamartí” – “grasshopper” (or a snack in Spanish) – a Word Brossa defined in the first poem of the book with an analogy between the object and “the people” of extraordinary clarity and humor.
At first, Robert Llimós creates three different figures by way of approximation to his own Brossa. The first walks, the second carries its shoes, and the third looks at the sky. He remodels the last one to a larger in scale.
The instability of the piece suggests to Llimós to take it away from a firm base, resorting to an unusual material to make it float. The saltamartí jumps into the water transformed and renamed MIRAESTELS, and the usual materials of sculpture give way to the fiberglass and resin of polyester nautical vessels.
MIRAESTELS ends up holding in its hands, hidden behind it, a star it has captured in its dreams.
Swaying in the water, MIRAESTELS is a magical emblem of beautiful Barcelona, first Mediterranean port, so beloved by the world.
ARTIST:
Robert Llimós is an excellent product of the Academy who has gone through all the avant-garde to return to the origins: painting or depicting what is seen rather than what is felt. “Sharp clarity” said Santos Torroella of his work. Manolo Vázquez Montalbán recorded and remembered it in a large text on the artist.
Llimós’s long career began in childhood, on painting outings with his father. He engaged in a passionate and relentless exploration of the Zeitgeist, the spirit of the times, with the honesty of an ancient craft, with its written and unwritten laws, learned and consciously defended. Llimós work always has a primitive charm, a security of certainties, and a poetry as touching as it is brave.
Llimós imagined MIRAESTELS not only as a tribute to another great artist. It is also a gentle and powerful call for us to notice great matters that, today, are more important than ever, deserving the attention of our world.
