Let's take a virtual tour of Missoula Montana!
Let's explore the world through Google Street View.
Today we are visiting Missoula Montana in the north western part of the United State. I had a nice time looking around at this town, checking out the old places and some of the new. Great surrounding hills and mountains. I could definitely see spending a couple days check out the place if I get up in that area.
Here you can check out where we have been on Google Maps.
Thanks to Google for Street View.

Missoula MT Real Estate | Neighborhoods | Downtown Missoula
Missoula MT Real Estate Neighborhoods Downtown Missoula.
Central Missoula is a vibrant area coursing with activity, civic involvement, and life.
Downtown Missoula is a bustling center of commerce and activity revered by all Missoulians, but it is also a neighborhood, a home to many residents who relish being in the middle of it all. There are grand historic homes along the east-west streets of Pine, Spruce, and Alder, which are named for native Montana tree species yet lined with other deciduous trees. There are also affordable apartments, high-end condos, and modest bungalows surrounding the downtown proper. Monday through Friday, Heart of Missoulians share their neighborhood with architects, lawyers, business professionals, Forest Service employees, retailers, and restaurateurs. On the weekends people flock from all over to shop, dine, and gather for entertainment. In the spring, summer, and fall the morning farmers’ markets turn over to festivals in Caras Park in the afternoon and evening. In the winter, downtown is still alive with holiday shopping, events, and a homegrown film festival in February. The Heart of Missoula recaptures a sense of neighborhood that pre-dates the 1940′s and 50′s Norman Rockwell vision. This dense area of homes and commerce harkens back to the old Western settlement where community was everywhere you turned and your grocer, banker, and barkeeper were also your neighbors.

Flying Over Missoula
One of the most popular activities to do in Missoula is to the hike the 'M' on Mount Sentinel, but the mountain is also home to another popular activity in Missoula - flying.
I think everyone has flying dreams when they're a child, you know? said Paul Roys, instructor of Five Valley Hang Gliding. And this is really as close as you can get without being Superman.
One of Roys' friends and co-instructors, Jeff Shapiro agrees.
Honestly I wouldn't be who I am today, Shapiro said. And I certainly wouldn't imagine what life would be like without flight as part of my life.
Since the early 1970's, Missoulians and others across the world have soared the airs above Mount Sentinel and Mount Jumbo, looking out at the Sapphire Mountain Range -- and below at some of the best the Garden City has to offer, explained Roys.
You know it's almost surreal, he said. Because it's a vantage point that you've never seen before. And it's a lot of sensations That you've never felt before. Sport aviation is wonderful because there's no motor. There's no vibration, there's no noise.
Home to the oldest registered inland launch site, Mount Sentinel -- as well as the rest of the Missoula Valley -- offers some of the best gliding in the United States. Convergence of air from the Bitterroot, Clark Fork, Flathead Valley drives winds up the slope of Mount Sentinel, creating sensational lift for pilots. Yet, the micrometeorology aspect isn't the only reason it's enjoyable to fly in Missoula.
We're always smiling, everybody's having fun, the long-haired Shapiro said with a smile. Because that's what we're here to do. It's not this intense crazy thing, it's a community of people enjoying free flight over the town they live in. And that... It's pretty unique, it's pretty cool.
Another reason that makes this sport so enjoyable, is not just flying like birds, but flying with birds. Roys and Shapiro say that it's very common for humans to fly alongside eagles, hawks, and raptors. The two species non-verbally communicate with each other, using patterns to seek desirable thermals.
It's really a truly amazing experience to be able to fly with birds, said Roys. Looking at birds eye to eye in the air, spiraling in the same thermal, and climbing away from the mountain.
Shapiro added more about the liberating feeling.
You feel like a bird because you're in the same position, and you're climbing at the same rate, he said. Y'know for a short time, fleeting moments, you get to be a bird. And that... I mean, why wouldn't you want to do that?
And if flying alongside birds doesn't sell someone on the idea, maybe nothing can. Because even the pilots who fly have trouble putting the experience into words.
Magical, is a great word, said Roys. Surreal. It's breathtaking.
It's really something you have to experience yourself, Shapiro added. And that's actually, in my opinion is kind of the beauty of the activity, right? It's not something that you can see a YouTube video or hear somebody tell you about, it's something that you need to experience for yourself.
The highest altitude anyone has ever reached launching off Mount Sentinel was 15,000 feet, and the longest distance anyone has ever flown was from here to Helena. But the emphasis of this sport isn't to push one's self. It's to relax, have a safe flight, and enjoy the beautiful view from above.
The instructors were also very adamant about who can fly these machines. Across the globe, pilots from their teenage years to those in their 70's take flight as long as the conditions are right.
