Sidewinder, Mountain Biking the Brands trails, Moab Utah, 4K Stabilized
Yeti SB6 Bike:
MOAB, UT - Sidewinder at the Bar M/Brands trails.
The Brands trails are mostly known for the easier terrain and often get snubbed by more advanced riders. I do not shy away from these rides, mostly because I appreciate a variety of terrain that has one thing in common….. A sweet downhill. If you aren't having fun, you're not riding fast enough Zack Sheets at OTE. I largely decided to ride the Sidewinder with the inspiration of James Barton calling it one of his favorite trails (paraphrase).
Sidewinder and the Brands Trails are located adjacent to Arches National Park and feature some low risk dirt terrain. It's a short 1.2 miles intermediate trail that's very flowy with isolated chunky sections. I had a good time riding it twice. Sidewinder isn't the only highlight as we'll check out Deadmans Ridge in the coming days.

Mountain Bike Destinations: Moab
It’s officially Spring, and you know what that means? It’s time to plan your next MTB adventure!
In 2016 I was lucky to find myself riding trails all across the United States. Because of that, I get a ton of messages and comments asking for recommendations on to take the next MTB vacation.
Today, I’m starting a series aimed at sharing my favorite mountain bike destinations from my travels. I’ll tell you all about what made my experience there so great as well as information on the must ride trails, campsites you can stay at, where to get the best food and beer, fun activities off the bike, and even some sneaky pro tips I found along the way.
Moab
Moab, although is no secret as a mtb destination, holds a special place on my list because it was the first trip that I took with both Brian from BXKC and Seth of Seth’s Bike Hacks. This was the trip where we all realized how well we jelled and really opened our eyes to the amazing possibilties for not just our future YouTube collaborations, but also to our new found friendship. This, combined with some of the most technical and unique single track I have ever ridden made for one hell of an epic mountain bike trip.
The must have ride here is without a doubt The Whole Enchilada. Touting the lofty title of one of the world’s greatest rides, The Whole Enchilada absolutely delivered - and we didn’t even get to ride the entire thing! With an astounding 8,000 feet of descent and everything from high alpine to sandstone canyon, fast and smooth to technical and gnarly, The Whole Enchilada is an amazingly diverse ride that showcases everything Moab has to offer.
Speaking of things to offer - Being an established ride destination does have its perks. Moab has amazing facilities that helped me get by on a low budget the first time I visited with my brother. In addition to plenty of free camping on BLM land outside of town, Moab has an awesome Public library that I was able to use for internet and work. Moab also has a pretty great dirt jump set and skate park right in town so that you can properly get injured before even heading to the trail.
For those of you with a family, Moab may be especially appealing due to the plethora of activities to keep the groms busy while your out shredding. I recommend checking out the awesome National Parks available at Arches and Canyonlands. For an especially dope view head up to the Delicate Arch at sunset and grab a seat: the show is amazing. Another hike I thoroughly enjoyed was the one to the Morning Glory Land bridge. This hike is outside the National parks so there is no fee, and includes some pretty stellar scenery all on a hike that isn’t too long even for your weary bike legs. Another favorite of the Moab scene the offered jeeping and ATV. I was fortunate enough to experience this thrill with our friend Randall who took us out for some hair raising excursions in his jeep, but you can hire guides just the same.
I don’t know about you, but after riding, I’m always in a hurry to clean off and grab some food. There is a pretty cool little spot back at the Mill Creek Trail where you can rinse off, have a beer and hangout, and do a little cliff diving. It can be a little crowded here, but I still thought it was a good time. For food, my two favorite spots were without a doubt the delicious burgers at Milt’s and the Moab diner.
Another trail that I recommend in Moab is Captain Ahab. This is a newer trail and is a great 2 hour loop with varied riding and great views. If you are looking to really send it, you may want to head out to the Bartlett Wash ferried area. Here, you will find endless free ride options that can get pretty hairy, so make sure to do some research first and take a friend or someone that knows the area.
Live Free, Ride Hard, and…. start planning!!!

Moab, Utah is a Bikers' Playground
All kinds of outdoor adventurers visit Moab, but it’s perhaps best known for its biking opportunities — of both the mountain and motorized variety. There are more than 10 different areas to ride, each with miles of trails that run the difficulty gamut from beginner to expert. (Note: No biking is allowed in the national parks.)
Matador Ambassadors Yancy and Wyatt Caldwell recently scoped out the Moab biking scene and produced the video above. Their conclusion? There is WAY more terrain than can be explored on just one trip. As with any visit to Utah, you’re just scratching the surface.

My Bike Explained:
Drones Situation:
MOAB, UT - Deadman's Ridge at the Bar M/Brands trails.
I went to the Bar M trails to ride the Sidewinder and accidentally stumbled about this technical gem, Deadman's Ridge! This was a pleasant surprise and a trail I would absolutely ride again. Note, I did ride this trail North to South.
Deadman is a very chunky trail with lots of unique technical features. The climbs are what really set this trail apart. The rock is very grippy and after a rider cleans one switch back, guess what? You have another…..and another. Most importantly, everything is attainable by progressing riders and I see it as a black trail to intermediate riders and a blue trail to advanced athletes. There's not much for drops, but expect several opportunities to go OTB or smash that pedal into that side salad rock. Be careful.
At the end of the day, find this trail perfect for the area. Bar M is most widely known for its easier trails, but in my opinion, Deadman's is a great opportunity for a rider to expand their horizons before giving efforts to Captain Ahab or Porcupine Rim! Both in which are great black diamond progression trails.

Moab Brands Trails Mountain bike
Once our mighty five trip was in the books, we took an extra day in Moab to do some Moabey things. First up was mountain biking. We rented a few Specialized mountain bikes from the Moab Cyclery and like most tourists it was recommended that we check out the Brands Trails. We initially wanted to do the intrepid trails, but changed plans due to time.
The brands trails are relatively easy, I know there are some more technical trails as part of the brands, but we stuck to the easy ones. I did like the flow of most of the trails. We did EZ, Lazy, Rusty, Sidewinder, and parts of Bar M. good riding.
I should also point out that I did not have any of my own biking equipment so that meant no go pro mounts. I ended up just holding the go pro in my left hand while riding, but as you can see it was only in a few of the easier sections.
Moab Teaser, Sore Throat, Jumps - RWS EP2
In this episode of riding with Seth, we're live from Moab, Utah! We'll take a look at a few clips from Moab, and see who I've been riding with this week.
After riding Porcupine Rim (The Half Enchilada), Slickrock, and Bartlett open riding area, I got sick. This was a huge bummer, but luckily we still have a totally ridiculous amount of footage (330 Gigabytes so far).
Feeling congested with a sore throat, I decided that dirt jumps would be a great idea since they don't involve a lot of cardio. Needless to say I was off my game a bit. After going straight for the jumps on a BMX, I squirreled out on the last one and landed directly on my knee. It seems okay, but it'll be another week or so before I pedal a bike.

So. Utah Rules – Sand Hollow & Warner Valley
Chupacabra Offroad headed back to Southern Utah, Hurricane to be exact, to do some riding. This area is amazing, there is literally every type of terrain in one area! From the dunes and rocks of Sand Hollow, to the fast washes, whoops, and mud hills of Warner Valley. It’s been fun spending time exploring more of this area. My family moved here, so I’ll be spending lots of time riding here in the future.
Speaking of Southern Utah Riding, last year we did a video riding some other dunes nearby, called Coral Pink. Here’s the link:
I Highly recommend you get out to Southern Utah, and we will be exploring more on our future trips.
While in Utah, I got so take my first ride on an E Bike, a 2019 Specialized Aluminum Turbo Levo to be exact. So fun! I will own one someday… it’s so fun to try and climb obstacles that are almost impossible on a regular bike, and it felt really planted on the downhills. Thanks to my good buddy John and All Mountain Cyclery for making it happen! Utah has amazin terrain, no matter what you are doing. I plan on exploring all the singletrack on my dirt bike in Warner Valley on the next trip.

Ibis Mojo 3 Test Ride Review | Moab Brand, Moab, UT
The Mojo 3 is Ibis' super versatile trail bike that can be run in a 27.5 or 27.5 plus configuration. It's a relative short travel bike sporting 130 mil rear, 140 mil front. I'm testing the build that comes with 2.8 plus tires. Ibis states is shares a lot of DNA with the Mojo HD, and I agree, they feel similar and have similar souls, but are quite different in the end, the HD is a monster truck that can take even the biggest hits while the Mojo 3 is a happy, light, playful bike.
I've seen a lot of people misjudge the Mojo 3 due to the comparisson I just made; they tend to think that its not a bike that can be ridden aggresively, and boy are they wrong, I personally know a few people who have this as their main bike and they ride them hard, big jumps and all. When I say its a towned down version of the HD we are comparing its capability to do huge drops and take big hits in succession, EWS kinda stuff; the riding most of us do as non-alien-level-bikers, the Mojo 3 can handle, and can handle well.
I've ridden this bike twice now, in both ocassion I found it to be super intuitve and easy to ride fast, and although numbers wise its shorter than I tend to like, for some reason it doesnt really feel so. The short chainstay combined with the slack 66.8 degree headangle balance it in some sort of weird place where the bike feels lively and can plow through small chunk without issue. Throw a few pedals strokes in there and the bike resists bobing, instead transfering power in probably the most efficient way I've ever seen outside of a dedicated XC bike.
Ok then, let's wrap this review up. I can't speak highly enough of the Mojo 3, if I had the budget for it this would be my second bike, for the kind of terrain I ride most in FL its a perfect fit, capable enough to handle any technical riding at my skill level and efficient enough to keep speed up in the pedally sections. This bike is a superb middle ground bike, its not an XC bike, its not an Enduro bike, its what most people should actually ride as a Trail bike. But, there's a reason I picked the Jeffsy as a single bike to own, the capability for handling big mountain is better on a bike that has that amount of travel and while the Mojo 3 could also do it without a doubt, it won't be as forgiving. Probably the only real downside to this bike is that its priced as an Ibis, which means you'll be paying premium price for a premium bike.
So to decide if this is the one for you, try to figure out where you'll be riding most and what you expect from the bike; I'd be willing to bet that for a very high percentage of people, this bike falls in the range of what they'd ride most.

Capitol Reef is home to towering sandstone structures and impressive canyons, but it also holds many ancient petroglyphs, which are engraved etchings into rock walls. Fremont and Ancestral Puebloan people lived here between 600-1300 A.D., and their markings tell what appears to be their the stories, hunting patterns, crop cycles, and mythologies of their lives. What they thought and what exactly they were communicating, will never be known because there is no actual translation available. That’s part of the fun of seeing them: imagining what the conversations of the ancients told of this colorful and rugged place.
You can scour over the beautiful renderings yourself, and take your best guess at a mixture of forms, including pictures that appear to be anthropomorphs (human figures), wildlife, birds, tools, and more esoteric, abstract things. The Fremont people, more than other neighboring Native American cultures, were prolific with their rock art output.
Archaelogical artifacts from the Fremont were first found along the Fremont River, which flows through the park. These people lived in pit-style houses and they lived in bands of several families. They were hunter-gatherers, but also adopted agricultural practices to supplement their diets. The Fremont have left their markings throughout the park in petroglyphs on big rocks.
The most pristine example of Capitol Reef petroglyphs can be seen 1.5 miles east of the visitor center on Highway 24. The parking turnout is well-marked. It’s just a short walk along the boardwalk to get to the impressive petroglyph panel. You’ll note animals they hunted, as well as human-like figures with elaborate horned headdresses. Additionally, there is another rock art panel in Capitol Gorge, as well as smaller petroglyphs in more remote destinations within the park. The most pristine example can be seen 1.5 miles east of the visitor center on Highway 24. The parking turnout is well-marked.
It’s worth mentioning that you should refrain from touching the panels, because the oils in your hands can severely damage and erode these precious and ancient artforms. If you see anyone damaging rock art or any archeological site, report it to a ranger immediately.
The Fremont culture navigated this very landscape that you are exploring, searching for food, documenting the patterns of nature and time, potentially passing on information about medicine, and trying to communicate and translate the divine with petroglyphs. The real question is, what do you think the Capitol Reef petroglyphs mean? Start making plans to visit this mystical attraction on your next trip to Utah!

After hitting the Suicide Trail earlier in the day, Jeff from Worldwide Cyclery took me up as the sun was setting on the trails above Newbury Park in the Ventu Open Space, Hope Nature Preserve and Los Robles Open Space.
