Visit The San Marino Capital: The City Of San Marino!
So... is San Marino a country? Yes! San Marino is the 5th smallest country in the world. Full of beautiful mountains and amazing hikes. To get here you'll need to take the bus from Rimini to San Marino. Outside of the Rimini train station, get on the Bonelli bus 72 right near the Burger King. The trip is only about $10 roundtrip and it runs all day.
When you visit San Marino, go to the tourist office and buy a stamp to go in your passport book, then check out the Basilica Di San Marino. On the way there, you'll walk by the beautiful town hall building aka Palazzo Pubblico. San Marino population is only 33,000, and most of them you won't see because if you're a tourist, you're more than likely going to visit the three towers.
The Three Towers of San Marino:
1) Guaita
2) De La Fratta (or Cesta Castle)
3) Montale
The towers used to serve as lookout points for intruders but today they are museums filled with ancient weapons and armor.
Visit San Marino for great views, ancient history, and if you want to check off a micro country in your passport book.

San Marino Medieval Fortress with Towers on Mount Titano
Please support my channel and subscribe. Thanks. :)
The Three Towers of San Marino are a group of towers located in San Marino. Located on the three peaks of Monte Titano in the capital, also called San Marino, they are depicted on both the national flag and coat of arms.
The Guaita is the oldest of the three towers, and the most famous. It was constructed in the 11th century and served briefly as a prison. It was rebuilt numerous times and reached its current form in the 15th century during the war fought between San Marino and the House of Malatesta.
The Cesta is located on the highest of Monte Titano's summits. A museum to honor Saint Marinus, created in 1956, is located in this tower and showcases over 1,550 weapons dating from the Medieval Era to the modern day.[2] It was constructed in the 13th century on the remains of an older Roman fort.
The Montale is located on the smallest of Monte Titano's summits. Unlike the other towers, this one is not open to the public. It was constructed in the 14th century. It is thought to have been constructed to give protection against the increasing power of the Malatesta family in that region.[4] It was also used as a prison, and accordingly, the only entrance to the tower is a door about seven metres from ground level, which was common for prison architecture of the time.
World War II in Color: 16mm footage of 261st Coast Artillery at Fort DuPont in Delaware City
This video is 16mm film footage in color taken at Fort DuPont and surrounding area in 1941 by a member of the 261st Coast Artillery Battalion, Delaware Army National Guard. This digital copy of the original 16mm film was given to me by a descendant of the soldier, who served in the 261st during World War Two. It features the building of the cantonment barracks, which later served as housing for German POWs in 1944 and 1945. The footage also shows a baseball game at an unknown location and marching on the parade grounds at Fort DuPont. The area where soldiers are conducting war exercises is likely the dredge spoil area near the Finnegan farm, which is located across Port Penn Road, southwest from the main gate at Fort DuPont.

Little Europe: Five Micro-Countries
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Don't blink as we blitz through Europe's tiniest countries: Vatican City, the planet's smallest country, boasts the its biggest church. The fairy-tale princedom of Monaco lures high rollers with its fancy casino and glamorous views. City of San Marino and its three peaks and fortresses #SanMarino - ????️ Travel video
The city of San Marino is the capital city of the Republic of San Marino and it lies on the western slopes of San Marino's highest point, Monte Titano.
San Marino is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula. Its size is just over 61 km2 and it's located close to the riviera of Rimini, one of Italy's main coastal resort areas.
The country derives its name literally from Saint Marinus, a stonemason originating from the Roman colony on the island of Rab, in modern-day Croatia. Marinus, according to legend, participated in the reconstruction of Rimini's city walls after their destruction by pirates. Marinus then went on to found an independent monastic community on Monte Titano in 301; thus, San Marino lays claim to be the oldest extant sovereign state as well as the oldest constitutional republic.
The urban heart of the city was protected by three towers: the first, Guaita, constructed in the 11th century, was famous for being impenetrable, which to a great extent discouraged attacks on the city.
Due to the Crusades, it was felt necessary to construct a second tower, Cesta or De La Fratta (13th century). But the Sanmarinense defensive system was not completed until the construction of a third tower, the Montale (14th century) - the smallest of all and constructed on the last of the summits of Monte Titano.
The Guaita fortress, the oldest of the three towers constructed on Monte Titano is the most famous. It is one of the three towers depicted on both the national flag and coat of arms. It was registered as one of the World Heritage Sites in 2008.

WPA #Bulletin , 1937: “On a misty, dismal day last April, a WPA crew started work on the wild and undeveloped 70-acre Bemis tract of land in the rear of the #Chicopee High School, which is being converted into the city’s first public recreational field. Today the physical change of a large #part of the land is decidedly noticeable. Here workmen have graded, leveled and filled this area into a huge flat field which will contain a football and baseball field, a running track, eight #tennis_courts, three #basketball_courts, a field house and service building, a grandstand and a parking space for several hundred cars. The field will be seeded and rimmed with attractive shade trees, making the plot one of the finest athletic plants in the western part of the state. In addition to a main drive about the fields a total of 81,000 square feet of walks will be laid. A 12-acre pond is included on the land. WPA workmen have completed construction of a dike to hold in this water and in the winter the spot can be used for winter sport purposes. #Chicopee officials are watching the #WPA work with interest and high school authorities are awaiting completion of the project which will give the #school teams easily accessible practice and playing fields and the residents of the city an athletic plant which has been needed for years.”
