Racing 4x4 in Mojave Desert Near Las Vegas, Nevada
The Mojave Desert off-road riding on the Mojave Road was thrilling and extreme. Taking ATVs off road in the Mojave is an epic experience that everyone should do when visiting Las Vegas, Nevada. We visited Vegas Off Road Adventure and they were the best hosts we've had in Las Vegas during our trip.

FANTASTIC 4 MOJAVE DESERT TOUR
Your adventure with Annie Bananie's Wild West Tours will show you 4 landscapes in 1 desert. Come and experience the diversity of the desert in this one of a kind tour.
We begin with photo stops at the outlook points of both the dam and the lake. Hoover Dam is one of the man made engineering marvels of the world. Dedicated in 1935 and is the Western Hemisphere's highest concrete dam. The dam controls floods, stores water, provides hydroelectric power generation, recreation, and a fish and wildlife habitat.
Lake Mead (National Rreation Area), with its beautiful crystal blue waters, was created by Hoover Dam and is the 16th largest man made lake in the world and the largest in the western hemisphere.
We then take a leisurely scenic drive through beautiful Red Rock Canyon, the beautiful canyon you see when flying into Las Vegas. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is one of the hidden treasures of Nevada with its beautifully layered red sandstone mountains and unique rock formations.
Next is a drive through majestic Mount Charleston with photo stops along the way. Mount Charleston is the highest mountain of the Spring Mountains. It is 11,918 ft. high and 20-30 degrees cooler then Las Vegas. The mountain is covered with several species of pines, juniper and aspen groves. It is transformed into a winter wonderland when covered with snow.
Saving the best for last, tour through the Valley of Fire with various photo stops and the visitors center. The Valley of Fire is the crown jewel of Nevada's state parks. In this unworldly place you will see Aztec formations in fire engine red with overwhelming valleys and gorges. These stunning formations were formed 150 million years ago. Ancient Indian petroglyphs, Elephant Rock and Seven Sisters are among the many sites you will see.
At the end of your tour, and a short restful drive, you will be back in your hotel in no time, basking in the memories of the Mojave Desert's beauty and secrets.
We want to wish all our friends past and future a Happy 2010!

The Mojave Desert is the driest desert in the US and covers a vast region, from urban areas on the northern edge of LA County to the remote unpopulated Mojave National Preserve and into southern Nevada. It's a harsh, alien landscape with sporadic mining settlements, ghost towns and vast areas set aside for weapons and aerospace testing. Historic Route 66 also traverses the Mojave whose signature plant is the endemic Joshua tree.
Travel reminds those paying attention that they are not the only man in the world, that this is a huge world and that they are only a small, insignificant human in it. This is quite a leisure experience – to go to another country or another state and see large numbers of peoples living differently, and coming to understand how large the world actually is. When people who learn return home, they keep with them this perspective for the rest of their life and they benefit from this is knowledge and perspective.
Another benefit to traveling is coming to see one’s native country in a different light, in a different way. This is done through being able to compare and contrast home from a foreign location, done most always through traveling. A new perspective may be formed

The Mojave Desert is bordered by the Great Basin Desert to its north and the Sonoran Desert to its south and east.
Topographical boundaries include the Tehachapi Mountains to the west, and the San Gabriel Mountains and San Bernardino Mountains to the south. The mountain boundaries are distinct because they are outlined by the two largest faults in California – the San Andreas and Garlock faults.
The Mojave Desert displays typical basin and range topography. Higher elevations above 2,000 ft (610 m) in the Mojave are commonly referred to as the High Desert; however, Death Valley is the lowest elevation in North America at 280 ft (85 m) below sea level and is one of the Mojave Desert's most notorious places.
Large parts of the Mojave Desert are often referred to as the high desert, in contrast to the low desert, the Sonoran Desert to the south. Most of the Mojave Desert is above 2,000 ft (610 m), with only Death Valley and the Colorado River basin in the east (including the neighbouring Las Vegas Valley) being lower.
The Mojave Desert, however, is generally lower than the even higher Great Basin Desert to the north. The Mojave Desert occupies less than 50,000 sq mi (130,000 km2), making it the smallest of the North American deserts.
The spelling Mojave originates from the Spanish language while the spelling Mohave comes from modern English. Both are used today, although the Mojave Tribal Nation officially uses the spelling Mojave; the word is a shortened form of Hamakhaave, their endonym in their native language, which means 'beside the water'.

Las Vegas officially the City of Las Vegas and often known simply as Vegas, is the 28th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County.
The city anchors the Las Vegas Valley metropolitan area and is the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert.
Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife. The Las Vegas Valley as a whole serves as the leading financial, commercial, and cultural center for Nevada.
The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its mega casino–hotels and associated activities.
Today, Las Vegas annually ranks as one of the world's most visited tourist destinations
The city's tolerance for numerous forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and has made Las Vegas a popular setting for literature, films, television programs, and music videos.
Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and officially incorporated in 1911. At the close of the 20th century, it was the most populated American city founded within that century
Population growth has accelerated since the 1960, and between 1990 and 2000 the population nearly doubled, increasing by 85.2%. Rapid growth has continued into the 21st century, and according to a 2013 estimate, the population is 603,488 with a regional population of 2,027,828
Las Vegas is situated within Clark County in a basin on the floor of the Mojave Desert and is surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides. Much of the landscape is rocky and arid with desert vegetation and wildlife.
It can be subjected to torrential flash floods, although much has been done to mitigate the effects of flash floods through improved drainage systems.
The peaks surrounding Las Vegas reach elevations of over 10,000 feet (3,000 m), and act as barriers to the strong flow of moisture from the surrounding area.
The elevation is approximately 2,030 ft (620 m) above sea level. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 135.86 sq mi (351.9 km2), of which 135.81 sq mi (351.7 km2) is land and 0.05 sq mi (0.13 km2) (0.03%) is water.
Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the U.S; it has been estimated by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) that over the next 50 years there is a 10–20% chance of a M6.0 or greater earthquake occurring within 50 km of Las Vegas.
The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos and the hotels, although in recent years other new attractions have begun to emerge.
Most casinos in the downtown area are located on the Fremont Street Experience.
The Stratosphere being one of the exceptions. Fremont East, adjacent to the Fremont Street Experience, was granted variances to allow bars to be closer together, similar to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, the goal being to attract a different demographic than the Strip attracts

Las Vegas Spanish for The Meadows, officially the City of Las Vegas and often known simply as Vegas, is the 28th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County. MOJAVE DESERT ROAD TRIP
I-40 begins in Barstow & follows some of Route 66 through the Mojave Desert. Along the route is Newberry Springs, most don't take much notice of the 117 sq mile community, at least not until 1988 with the release of the film Bagdad Cafe. Now, people travel from all over the globe to sit & enjoy a meal at the small, homey Cafe. If you haven't seen the film & you like surreal kinds of comedy, check it out. It's a story of lost people finding themselves.
Besides the Bagdad Cafe, there are two other things that came to mind as we traveled down old Route 66, John Steinbecks, The Grapes of Wrath - to a short lived TV show called Route 66...for all too short a time, I pretend I'm in that Corvette cruising down Route 66 back in her day...
Route 66 began in 1926 and was decommissioned in 1985. The 2,448 miles of highway, started in Chicago, Illinois & passed through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona & ended almost to the ocean in California.
Steinbeck referred to RT 66 as The Mother Road in 1930 & the name stuck. In 1960, Route 66 was a hot TV show filmed on location all over the US, along the course of the famous highway. And then there's Nat King Cole singing Get Your Kicks On Route 66. I can think of no other road that has been immortalized more - in song & clubs, organizations & even museums.
******************
If you'd really like to experience all that was & is of the Mother Road, check out this site:
TOUR ROUTE 66 ON A HARLEY-DAVIDSON -
******************
Yes, my 4-day Mother's Day weekend was wonderful! Four generations invaded Laughlin, Nevada to celebrate. 13 family members from Arizona & CA made the trek to the tri-state area, where the Mojave Desert meets the Colorado River. Ranging in age from 1 to 81!
The Riverside Resort has just about everything, Although it is a gambling casino/hotel, it has many family friendly amenities - 34 lane bowling alley, six-plex movie theater, 2 arcades, 3 swimming pools and a special place for young ones called Kid Kastle. And I'm not even gonna try to count how many restaurants it has. :)
On our return trip we found a little park next to the gas station, I couldn't resist climbing aboard the caboose & pretending I was on a train trip...haven't rode a train in years. :P

Las Vegas, officially the City of Las Vegas and often known simply as Vegas, is the 28th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County. The city anchors the Las Vegas Valley metropolitan area and is the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert. It is the leading financial, commercial, and cultural center for Nevada.
The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its mega casino–hotels and associated activities. It is a top three destination in the United States for business conventions and a global leader in the hospitality industry, claiming more AAA Five Diamond hotels than any city in the world. Today, Las Vegas annually ranks as one of the world's most visited tourist destinations. The city's tolerance for numerous forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and has made Las Vegas a popular setting for literature, films, television programs, and music videos.
Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and officially incorporated in 1911. Population growth has accelerated since the 1960s, and between 1990 and 2000 the population nearly doubled, increasing by 85.2%. Rapid growth has continued into the 21st century, and according to a 2013 estimate, the population is 603,488 with a regional population of 2,027,828.
Las Vegas is often used to describe areas beyond official city limits—especially the areas on and near the Las Vegas Strip, which is actually located within the unincorporated communities of Paradise, Winchester, and Enterprise.
Las Vegas Strip
The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of South Las Vegas Boulevard in Clark County, Nevada, known for its concentration of resort hotels and casinos. The Strip is approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) in length, located immediately south of the Las Vegas city limits in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester. However, the Strip is often referred to as being in Las Vegas. Most of the Strip has been designated an All-American Road, and is considered a scenic route at night. Many of the largest hotel, casino, and resort properties in the world are located on the Las Vegas Strip. Fourteen of the world's 25 largest hotels by room count are on the Strip, with a total of over 62,000 rooms.
One of the most visible aspects of Las Vegas' cityscape is its use of dramatic architecture and lights. The rapidly evolving skyline and constant modernization of hotels, casinos, restaurants, residential high-rises, and entertainment offerings on the Strip, have established it as one of the most popular destinations for tourists in the United States, and the world.

We reached Las Vegas in the late afternoon and spent some time at the Neon Museum (must-visit attraction). In the next morning we made our way to the Grand Canyon where we had spectacular views from the Skywalk. On the way back we stopped by at the Hoover Dam and then continued our journey to Las Vegas. In the evening we watch Michael Jackson: One by Cirque du Soleil at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. After a short night we left Las Vegas on the Extraterrestrial Highway, stopped at the Black Mailbox, drove until Area 51 (until the barricades) and had lunch at the alien-themed restaurant The Little A'Le'Inn. Leaving the Aliens behind, we drove through the desert until we reach our Accommodation at Death Valley. We went to the Badwater Basin, Zabriskie Point and Dante's View before driving to Palm Springs (California).

Background Information: Las Vegas, officially the City of Las Vegas and often known simply as Vegas, is the 28th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County. Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge with a glass walkway in Arizona near the Colorado River on the edge of a side canyon in the Grand Canyon West area of the main canyon. The United States Air Force facility commonly known as Area 51 is a highly classified remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base, within the Nevada Test and Training Range. The top-secret Area 51 government base is near SR 375, and many travelers have reported UFO observations and other strange alien activity along this road. Such stories prompted the state to officially designate the route as the Extraterrestrial Highway in 1996. The small town of Rachel, located near the midpoint of the highway, caters to tourists, geocachers, and UFO seekers with alien-themed businesses. Although the area receives some tourism due to alleged extraterrestrial activity, SR 375 remains a lightly traveled route. On a deserted stretch of road known as the “Extraterrestrial Highway” between Alamo and Rachel, Nevada, there is a lone mailbox with the names of two recipients. A larger box is labeled with the unassuming name of “Steve Medlin”; a smaller box is simply marked “Alien. Death Valley is a desert valley located in Eastern California, in the northern Mojave Desert bordering the Great Basin Desert.
