Montague Island on Sydney Weekender
Montague Island is one of my favourite dive sites - the seals are always ready to play! I always dive with Kathie and Martin Thackery from Island Charters - they always go above and beyond to look after me so I was really pleased when Sydney weekender paid them a visit

Montague Island 2013
A fantastic group of like minded divers headed down from Sydney on the long weekend to make the Montague Island Dive Trip with Pro Dive Coogee a pretty special occasion. We had a great time diving with a large number of Seals and enjoyed fairly good conditions early on.

Narooma NSW, Freediving with Seals @ Montague Island
Narooma is a town 4 hours driving from Sydney and it is absolutely worth the trip, I have not seen so many wild animals in their habitat in so little space, Giant bull Rays, Dolphins, Port Jackson Sharks, kangaroos, and dozens of seals are everywhere and is harder to miss them than to spot them. we booked our trip with montage island discovery tours and I cannot recommend them enough, they definitely went the extra mile for us and gave us one the greatest dive experiences. Enjoy the video and don’t forget to like comment and share if you dog it! Until next!
Snorkelling with Seals on Montague Island - The Travel Intern
Ever wondered what it's like to swim with seals?
Check out our full experience:
Located just 9km off the town of Narooma, Montague Island (or Barunguba) is probably the best kept secret along the entire South Coast. While seeing animals in wildlife parks and animal reserves are great, nothing beats interacting with seals in their natural habitat!
Of all the amazing bucket list activities in NSW we experienced during our epic Sydney South Coast road trip, this was by far our favourite. I mean where else can you get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures.
Getting to Montague Island:
You can only get here via a tour operator and the most convenient way is from the town of Narooma (4hrs from Sydney). The journey by boat takes approximately 30mins.
Do try to book the boat tours in advance as there are limited slots available each day to limit our human footprint and protect the environment.

Narooma New South Wales Australia
Narooma is a town in the Australian state of New South Wales on the far south coast. The town is on the Princes Highway. The name is said to be derived from the Aboriginal word meaning ‘clear blue waters’. At the 2011 census, Narooma had a population of 2,409 people.
Montague Island, a National Parks and Wildlife Reserve, is eight kilometres offshore from Narooma. It is popularly thought that Lieutenant James Cook named the island as he sailed northwards up the coast of New South Wales but this is incorrect. He did name the Mount Dromedary which is located inland from Narooma, but his ship, HMB Endeavour was on an easterly tack at the time, which took it far to the east of the island. From this point the island appeared to be a cape which projected from the coastline and this he named Cape Dromedary as it was below the mountain. Later, one of the ships of the Second Fleet in 1790 reported it as an island and the name Montagu (after George Montagu Dunk, the Earl of Halifax) was given to the Island though it is not clear by whom. Bass and Flinders later confirmed it as an island in their voyages of discovery in the late 1790s. (The Lure of Montague -Laurelle Pacey)
