Japan | Hiroshima Memorial Museum and Peace Park | Virtual Tour
A virtual tour of Hiroshima Memorial Museum and Peace Memorial Park. In order to allow you your own personal learning experience, and out of respect for those who have sacrificed far more than I have in the name of preserving history, every word spoken in this video is quoted directly from the placards at the museum, brochures distributed at the museum, and the Hiroshima Memorial Museum official website.
This is not a comprehensive video by any means. You can learn more and view the rest of the museum at:

You can find the footage used, and much more, for free use at archive.org.
*The fallout pictured at the beginning of the video is of Nagasaki, not Hiroshima. I felt this appropriate, as Nagasaki was bombed three days later by the same methods.
**It's also worth noting that while the video images are of victims from the A-bomb, the children/people on screen are not the owners of the items at the museum, or the same people being talked about in the voice-over.

Hiroshima, Japan - Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall (2019)
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (広島平和記念公園 Hiroshima Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is a memorial park in the center of Hiroshima, Japan. It is dedicated to the legacy of Hiroshima as the first city in the world to suffer a nuclear attack, and to the memories of the bomb's direct and indirect victims (of whom there may have been as many as 140,000). The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is visited by more than one million people each year. The park is there in memory of the victims of the nuclear attack on August 6, 1945. On August 6, 1945 the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was planned and designed by the Japanese Architect Kenzō Tange at Tange Lab.
The location of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was once the city’s busiest downtown commercial and residential district. The park was built on an open field that was created by the explosion. Today there are a number of memorials and monuments, museums, and lecture halls, which draw over a million visitors annually. The annual 6 August Peace Memorial Ceremony, which is sponsored by the city of Hiroshima, is also held in the park. The purpose of the Peace Memorial Park is to not only memorialize the victims, but also to establish the memory of nuclear horrors and advocate world peace.
The Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims is an effort by the Japanese national government to remember and mourn the sacred sacrifice of the atomic bomb victims. It is also an expression of Japan's desire for genuine and lasting peace. The Hall contains a number of displays. On the roof, near the entrance (the museum is underground) is a clock frozen at 8:15, the time the bomb went off. The museum contains a seminar room, library, temporary exhibition area, and victims' information area. The Hall of Remembrance, contains a 360 degree panorama of the destroyed Hiroshima recreated using 140,000 tiles — the number of people estimated to have died from the bomb by the end of 1945.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (広島平和記念公園 Hiroshima Heiwa Kinen Kōen?) is a memorial park in the center of Hiroshima, Japan. It is dedicated to the legacy of Hiroshima as the first city in the world to suffer a nuclear attack, and to the memories of the bomb's direct and indirect victims (of whom there may have been as many as 140,000).[1]
The location of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was once the city’s busiest downtown commercial and residential district. The park was built on an open field that was created by the explosion. Today there are a number of memorials and monuments, museums, and lecture halls, which draw over a million visitors annually. The annual 6 August Peace Memorial Ceremony, which is sponsored by the city of Hiroshima, is also held in the park.[2] The purpose of the Peace Memorial Park is to not only memorialize the victims, but also to establish the memory of nuclear horrors and advocate world peace.[3]
The A-Bomb Dome is the skeletal ruins of the former Industrial Promotion Hall. It is the building closest to the hypocenter of the nuclear bomb that remained at least partially standing. It was left how it was after the bombing in memory of the casualties. The A-Bomb Dome, to which a sense of sacredness and transcendence has been attributed, is situated in a distant ceremonial view that is visible from the Peace Memorial Park’s central cenotaph. It is an officially designated site of memory for the nation’s and humanity’s collectively shared heritage of catastrophe.[2] The A-Bomb Dome is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.[4]
The Children's Peace Monument is a statue dedicated to the memory of the children who died as a result of the bombing. The statue is of a girl with outstretched arms with a folded paper crane rising above her. The statue is based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki (佐々木禎子 Sasaki Sadako?), a young girl who died from radiation from the bomb. She believed that if she folded 1,000 paper cranes she would be cured. To this day, people (mostly children) from around the world fold cranes and send them to Hiroshima where they are placed near the statue. The statue has a continuously replenished collection of folded cranes nearby.[5]
The Rest House of Hiroshima Peace Park is another atomic bombed building in the park. The building was built as the Taishoya Kimono Shop in March 1929. It was used as a fuel distribution station when the shortage of fuel began in June 1944. On August 6, 1945, when the bomb exploded, the roof was crushed, the interior destroyed, and everything consumable burned except in the basement. Eventually, 36 people in the building died of the bombing; 47-year-old Eizo Nomura survived in the basement, which had a concrete roof through which radiation had a more difficult time penetrating.[6] He survived into his 80s.
Every year on 6 August, A-bomb Day, the City of Hiroshima holds the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony to console the victims of the atomic bombs and to pray for the realization of lasting world peace. The ceremony is held in the morning from 8:00, in front of the Memorial Cenotaph with many citizens including the families of the deceased. During the ceremony, A one-minute silence to honor the victims is observed at 8:15, the time of the atomic bomb's explosion
In the evening of the same day, Lantern ceremony is held to send off the spirits of the victims on lanterns with peace messages floating on the waters of the Motoyasu River.
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is the primary museum in the park dedicated to educating visitors about the bomb. The Museum has exhibits and information covering the buildup to war, the role of Hiroshima in the war up to the bombing, and extensive information on the bombing and its effects, along with substantial memorabilia and pictures from the bombing. The building also has views of the Memorial Cenotaph, Peace Flame, and A-Bomb Dome.
The Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims is an effort by the Japanese national government to remember and mourn the sacred sacrifice of the atomic bomb victims.
Peace on Nagasaki 長崎の平和
Urakami area of Nagasaki was the heart of Japanese Hidden Christian for the centuries. They underwent four periods of persecution from Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Shogun and even after the restration of the Emperor Meiji.
They believed that the atomic bombing of Urakami was the Fifth Persecution (五番崩れ) and the Biblical Holocaust (はん際). God choose Urakami Catholics to be the lambs of God and to be sacrificed for the sin of war.

MORE ABOUT GODZILLA
GODZILLA s a monster originating from a series of tokusatsu films of the same name from Japan. The character first appeared in Ishirō Honda's 1954 film Godzilla and become a worldwide pop culture icon, appearing in media including 29 films produced by Toho, three Hollywood films, and numerous video games, novels, comic books, television shows. It is often dubbed the King of the Monsters, a phrase first used in Godzilla, King of the Monsters!, the Americanized version of the original film.
Godzilla is depicted as an enormous, destructive, prehistoric sea monster awakened and empowered by nuclear radiation. With the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Lucky Dragon 5 incident still fresh in the Japanese consciousness, Godzilla was conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons.[23] As the film series expanded, some stories took on less serious undertones, portraying Godzilla as an antihero, or a lesser threat who defends humanity. With the end of the Cold War, several post-1984 Godzilla films shifted the character's portrayal to themes including Japan's forgetfulness over its imperial past,[24] natural disasters, and the human condition
The Atomic Bomb: Luis Alvarez's letter to his son from aboard The Artiste
The atomic bomb ended World War II, and ushered in a new era in world history, and the effects of dropping the bomb were seen immediately. First person accounts of the event add significant understanding of what happened that day. Hear Dr. Christopher Hamner, associate professor at George Mason University and part of ABMC's Understanding Sacrifice program, analyze a primary-source letter describing the events that day.
The Nuclear Tricycle
The item that left the greatest impression on me in Hiroshima was a tricycle. Owned by a three year old boy killed in the nuclear blast, it serves as a symbol for one of the great tragedies of the modern era.
And while the story may not be all that it seems, I've come to realize that the truth is less important to me than I'd first believed.
Edit: For some reason I said August 11th when I meant 6th. Not sure where that came from. Not that the date is the important part, but still. I've always got to mess up something, as is tradition.

The Coming War on China | Documentary Film (English and Spanish subtitles)
The Coming War on China is John Pilger's 60th film for ITV. Pilger reveals what the news doesn't: That the world's greatest military power, the United States, and the world's second economic power, China, both nuclear-armed, are on the road to the third world war. Pilger's film is a warning and an inspiring story of resistance.

American History - Part 199 - 1950s Time Machine
Welcome to THE MAKING OF A NATION -- American history in VOA Special English. I'm Steve Ember.
Imagine a time machine. You've just climbed into it for the purpose of visiting the United States -- in the nineteen-fifties.
The nuclear race was on. The two nations competed to build weapons of mass destruction.
A doomsday clock on the cover of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists warned of a growing danger of nuclear destruction. Members of that group were afraid of what science had produced, and even more afraid of what it could produce.
By nineteen forty-nine, the time on the doomsday clock was three minutes to midnight.
In nineteen fifty, North Korea invaded South Korea. The Korean war increased efforts in the United States to develop a weapon even more deadly than the atomic bomb. That weapon was the hydrogen bomb.
The Soviets were also working to develop their own hydrogen bomb.
Some Americans built bomb shelters in their backyards, hoping to have a safe place for their families in case of a nuclear attack.
Other Americans, however, were tired of being afraid. After years of sacrifice, they wanted to enjoy the good life in a growing economy.
Nineteen fifty-two was a presidential election year. Americans elected Dwight Eisenhower, a military hero of World War Two.
The years after the war produced the Baby Boom generation. In nineteen fifty there were twenty-four million young children in America. By nineteen sixty that number was thirty-five million.
More families meant the need for more houses. And bigger families needed bigger houses. In nineteen fifty alone, almost one and a half million new homes were built in America.
Most of these new houses were located in suburbs, the areas outside cities. People moved to the suburbs because they thought the schools there were better than city schools. They also liked having more space for their children to play in.
More space meant children had room to lay out electric train sets. In a lot of American homes, playing with electric trains was an activity that brought the whole family together.
Television ads for Lionel trains even featured baseball great Joe DiMaggio.
TV Lionel Trains proudly present The Joe DiMaggio Show, starring the Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio himself
The late nineteen fifties brought the Barbie doll and a big circular tube of colorful plastic called the Hula Hoop. People had to learn to move their hips in a circular motion, like a hula dancer in Hawaii, to spin it around their body.
Also popular was the poodle cut -- not for dogs, but for women who wanted to look stylish. They fixed their hair into lots of small curls, like the hair on a poodle.
Actress Mary Martin had made the poodle cut famous in the musical South Pacific. That play opened on Broadway in New York in nineteen forty-nine.
In Hollywood, one of the biggest movie stars of the nineteen fifties was Marilyn Monroe. She starred in films like Gentleman Prefer Blondes in nineteen fifty-three. Her platinum-blonde hair style also became popular among American women.
JAMES DEAN in Rebel Without A Cause: I woke up this morning, you know, and the sun was shining. And it was nice, and all that type of stuff. And the first thing, I saw you, and I said, now, boy this is gonna be one terrific day...
Another famous actor was James Dean, best known for the nineteen fifty-five movie Rebel Without a Cause. That same year he died in a car accident at the age of twenty-four.
In literature, there were writers and poets who came to be known as the Beat generation. These included Jack Kerouac, Gregory Corso and Allen Ginsberg. To them, much of life in nineteen-fifties America was empty and meaningless.
The painter Jackson Pollock represented a spirit of rebellion in art. Pollock would drop paint onto a canvas. What did his works mean? People had to decide for themselves.
Dwight Eisenhower was president for most of the nineteen fifties. He faced the problems of communism, nuclear threats and racial tensions. Ike had a calm way of speaking to the public. Many Americans saw him as a fatherly president. They thought that even in a dark and dangerous world, everything would be all right.
Were they correct? We'll try to answer that in future programs.
Pulwama attack: Israel stands with India, Benjamin Netanyahu assures PM Modi
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Friday expressed solidarity with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, saying the Jewish nation stood behind India after the henious terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed at least 40 CRPF soldiers. In one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, at least 40 CRPF personnel were killed and many injured on Thursday when a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district.
