The Art of Glass Blowing featuring Doug Taylor
Video courtesy of Bob Hunt
A visit to the Glass Studio & Hot Shop is an opportunity to get behind the scenes and observe resident glass artists creating unique works of art. Watch one of our glass demonstrations as the artist will take you through the process of creating a one of a kind piece of art glass. From gathering the molten glass from the furnace, to working it on the pontil pipe and glory hole, to its final cool down process in the annealing kiln, you will have a new appreciation for this art form that is centuries old. View the gaffer blowing glass, while the assistant narrates in detail the science behind glass, the artistic vision guiding the process and all of the steps involved as the work is being produced.

The Chihuly Collection In St. Pete Features Glass Art Movement
The Dale Chihuly Collection in downtown St. Petersburg, is all made out of glass. His use of color and asymmetrical shapes make his work unique. Chihuly, is a pioneer in the studio glass movement. He has been creating glass work for more than 40 years.
Glass is made by heating sand at a temperature of 1700 °C until it becomes liquid. Sand undergoes a complete transformation when transformed into glass.
It’s in one of the main art districts in the United States. The collection is part of the Morean Arts Center in downtown St. Petersburg, located in 720 Central Avenue.
“Because we already have the Dali Museum, there was already history of single artist museums here in St. Pete,” said Andy Schlauch, executive director of the Chihuly Collection and the glass studio at the Morean Arts Studio.
This collection is the first installation of Chihuly’s art in a building all designed specifically to showcase his work. Most of Chihuly’s pieces start at $5,000, these small pieces take approximately 30 minutes to create, it all depends on the layers of color added.
“It is owned by the Morean Arts Center, they purchased a vast collection of Artwork by Dale Chihuly … with the intention that they would create a permanent exhibition,” said Schlauch.
Unlike traditional art museums, this collection encourages people to get up close and personal with the pieces.
“When you come to see Chihuly’s work you don’t see it, you experience it,” said Schlauch.
Dale Chihuly’s glass work is now in over 200 different museums.
The displays showcase glass bowls, flowers and massive chandeliers.
“I think it is worth coming through to see Dale’s work because if you see it once, then every time you see a piece in other cities or in other places where they have one, it will resonate with you, and you’ll realize that it’s a Dale Chihuly,” said Ryan Weiner, at The Chihuly Collection.
Tickets include a live glass blowing demonstration by local St. Petersburg artists.
“Everyone comes out saying how much they love it, and how amazed they are by it,” said Schlauch.
Admission costs $19.95 for adults, $17.95 for senior citizens, $12.95 for students, and children 5 and under are free.
“The gallery is interesting, the pieces are what I expected them to be,” said Paul Carroll, visitor.
The Morean Arts center opens Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday’s from noon to 5 p.m.

Places to see in ( St Petersburg - USA )
St. Petersburg is a city on Florida's gulf coast, part of the Tampa Bay area. It's known for its pleasant weather (hence its “Sunshine City” nickname), making it popular for golfing, boating, fishing and beachgoing. Its waterfront parks host the Dali Museum, featuring surrealist works of art; the Museum of Fine Arts, with works ranging from ancient to contemporary; and Mahaffey Theater, home of the Florida Orchestra.
Saint Petersburg is located at the base of the Tampa Bay peninsula in Pinellas County, Florida, and enjoys a more subdued social atmosphere than its larger cousin, Tampa. The city has tried to characterize the downtown as an arts and entertainments destination and you will find no shortage of arts and crafts stores, galleries, and museums along with cafes and boutique food shops all within a couple blocks of the Tampa Bay waterfront. With water on three sides of the city, St. Pete is a superb location for fishing, sailing, and wandering beaches.
Saint Petersburg was founded by John C. Williams from Detroit, Michigan, who purchased the land in 1876. The town began with the help of Peter Demens, who was instrumental in bringing a railroad connection there in 1888. Saint Petersburg was named after the Saint Petersburg in Russia, the birthplace of Peter Demens. A local legend says that John C. Williams and Peter Demens flipped a coin to see who would have the honor of naming the city. Peter Demens won and named the city after his birthplace, while John C. Williams named the first hotel after his birthplace, Detroit. The Detroit Hotel still exists downtown, but it was converted into condos in 2002.
The city publishes the free Downtown St.Petersburg Guide & Map booklet, updated each season, that contains maps, trolley routes, and listings for hundreds of museums, events, restaurants, & hotels along with coupons. You can find the guide in dispensers throughout downtown and in many businesses.
Long known as little more than a bawdy spring-break party town and a retirement capital, St Petersburg is now forging a new name for itself as a culturally savvy southern city. Spurred on by awe-inspiring downtown murals, a revitalized historic district and the stunning Dalí Museum, the downtown energy is creeping up Central Ave, spawning sophisticated restaurants, craft breweries, farmers markets and artsy galleries, all of which are attracting a younger professional crowd and a new wave of culturally curious travelers.

Poster Of Trump Kissing Putin Goes Up In Lithuanian Restaurant
A restaurant owner in Lithuania mounted a 6 ft art poster of Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump Russian president Vladimir Putin kissing each other several weeks ago and no one has asked him to take it down. The wheat paste painting was created by a street artist named Mindaugas Bonanu. The owner of the barbeque restaurant in the capital city of Vilnius thinks it's appropriate for his time and place in our world's history. He also said he thinks the two political figures both enjoy monstrous egos and seem to enjoy each other.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Clearwater Tampa
he Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a non-profit organization in Clearwater, Florida, United States. It is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured marine animals, public education, and animal-assisted therapy and research.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium opened in 1972 at its current location on Clearwater Beach, a former water treatment plant (the large tanks being well-suited for rehabilitation operations).
Numerous forms of marine life reside at the aquarium, some temporarily until they can be released, while others have serious injuries which do not permit their return to the wild, and thus become permanent residents.
The aquarium's best-known permanent resident, and the focus of its marketing campaigns, is Winter, a bottlenose dolphin who was rescued in December 2005 after having her tail caught in a crab trap. Her injuries caused the loss of her tail, and the aquarium fitted her with a prosthetic tail which brought worldwide attention to the facility. Winter later starred in the 2011 Dolphin Tale, shot partially on location at the aquarium

Chihuly Garden and Glass
Born in 1941 in Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly was introduced to glass while studying interior design at the University of Washington. After graduating in 1965, Chihuly enrolled in the first glass program in the country, at the University of Wisconsin. He continued his studies at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he later established the glass program and taught for more than a decade.
In 1968, after receiving a Fulbright Fellowship, he went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice. There he observed the team approach to blowing glass, which is critical to the way he works today. In 1971, Chihuly cofounded Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. With this international glass center, Chihuly has led the avant-garde in the development of glass as a fine art.
His work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide. He has been the recipient of many awards, including twelve honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Chihuly has created more than a dozen well-known series of works, among them, Cylinders and Baskets in the 1970s; Seaforms, Macchia, Venetians, and Persians in the 1980s; Niijima Floats and Chandeliers in the 1990s; and Fiori in the 2000s. He is also celebrated for large architectural installations. In 1986, he was honored with a solo exhibition, Dale Chihuly objets de verre, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, in Paris. In 1995, he began Chihuly Over Venice, for which he created sculptures at glass factories in Finland, Ireland, and Mexico, then installed them over the canals and piazzas of Venice.
In 1999, Chihuly started an ambitious exhibition, Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem; more than 1 million visitors attended the Tower of David Museum to view his installations. In 2001, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London curated the exhibition Chihuly at the V&A. Chihuly’s lifelong fascination for glasshouses has grown into a series of exhibitions within botanical settings. His Garden Cycle began in 2001 at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. Chihuly exhibited at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, near London, in 2005. Other major exhibition venues include the de Young Museum in San Francisco, in 2008; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2011; and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2013. Chihuly Garden and Glass, a long-term exhibition, opened at Seattle Center in 2012.
Chihuly's glass spulptures come alive through the vibrant showcase amongst nature - its best context! A feast for your eyes and imagination.
