In the coastal Croatian city of Zadar, there is a musical architechtural wonder. The Sea Organ or 'Morske orgulje' in Croatian, uses a system of pipes and chambers in tandem with the moving waves of the sea to create music!
So we took some time out from the Croatia Motorcycle tour and went to have a little look!
I struggled, but see if you can name that tune!!
Quite amazing to see and like nothing else I've ever witnessed!

Sea Organ (Morske Orgulje) and the Adriatic Sea in Zadar, Croatia

According to Wikipedia...
The Sea organ (Croatian: Morske orgulje) is an architectural object located in Zadar, Croatia and an experimental musical instrument which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.
Chaotic reconstruction work undertaken in an attempt to repair the devastation Zadar suffered in the Second World War, which turned much of the sea front into an unbroken, monotonous concrete wall.
The waves create somewhat random but harmonic sounds. The device was made by the architect Nikola Bašić as part of the project to redesign the new city coast (Nova riva), and the site was opened to the public on 15 April 2005.
The Sea Organ has drawn tourists and locals alike. In addition, white marble steps leading down to the water were built later. Concealed under these steps, which both protect and invite, is a system of polyethylene tubes and a resonating cavity that turns the site into a large musical instrument, played by the wind and the sea.
In 2006, the Sea Organ was awarded with the prize ex-aequo of the fourth edition of the European Prize for Urban Public Space.

Zadar In Your Pocket - The Sea Organ (Morske orgulje)
Spring 2005 saw Zadar gain something absolutely unique: the worlds first pipe organ thats played by the sea. Its an art installation designed to let people enjoy the point where urban space meets the sea on Zadars new pier for cruisers on the end of the Old Town peninsula. Simple, elegant stone steps have been built on the quayside, perfect for sitting on. Underneath, 35 pipes end in whistles with openings on the quayside above. The movement of the sea pushes air through, and depending on the size and velocity of the wave chords are played. As you sit and listen to the ever-changing sounds created by the seas energy, you can bask in the sun, enjoy one of Zadars famous sunsets or enjoy the balmy night air. This is proving to be an extremely popular spot for culture and leisure, bringing new life to a new part of the city. The projects architect was Nikola Bašić, and a team of experts from Zagreb and the island of Murter engineered the organ itself.

The main attractions are: the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun installations at the doks at the very end of the little island. The Roman Forum, beautiful old churches, buildings and narrow streets. Delicious Sea Food, pizza, pasta and coffee like any Italian city.

Sunrise at the Sea Organ (Morske Orgulje), Zadar, Croatia
The night before we shot this video, Zadar was having a celebration and thousands of people we in the city. Wanting to experience the serenity of the sea organ, we decided to come back at sunrise the next morning. It was well worth it! It is an amazing, unparalleled experience.
This organ, created by Nikola Bašić, is literally played by the Adriatic Sea. Underneath the concrete steps are 35 tuned pipes. Musical chords are created in a random fashion as the ocean's waves lap at the steps and force air through the pipes. The volume and frequency vary depending on the mood of the ocean; they chords can be soft and slow when the sea is calm, or intensified if it is rough or if a boat goes by and the wake hits the shore.
Please enjoy :-)

Sea Organ (Morske Orgulje) is a set within the perforated stone stairs that desend into the sea. It is a system of pipes and whistles that exudes wistful sights when the movement of the sea pushes air through it.

Morske Orgulje - or the Sea Organ of Zadar, Croatia 2015
Morske Orgulje, or the Sea Organ of Zadar, Croatia on my trip in August, 2015. Unfortunately, you can't really hear them very well in this recording but gives a sense of what was happening.....
Sea Organ of Zadar - at Night
Sea Organ - musical instrument played by the sea
(excerpted from oddmusic.com)
The musical Sea Organ (morske orgulje) is located on the shores of Zadar, Croatia, and is the worlds first musical pipe organs that is played by the sea. Simple and elegant steps, carved in white stone, were built on the quayside. Underneath, there are 35 musically tuned tubes with whistle openings on the sidewalk. The movement of the sea pushes air through, and depending on the size and velocity of the wave musical chords are played. The waves create random harmonic sounds.
This masterpiece of acoustics and architecture was created by expert Dalmatian stone carvers and architect Nikola Basic in 2005, who recently received the European Prize for Urban Public Space for this project. Many tourists come to listen to this unique aerophone, and enjoy unforgettable sunsets with a view of nearby islands. Famed director Alfred Hitchcock said that the most beautiful sunset in the world can be seen from precisely this spot on the Zadar quay. That was how he described it after his visit to Zadar, a visit he remembered throughout his life by the meeting of the sinking sun and the sea. Subscribe for more ambient videoscapes:

Zadar. Sound and light.wmv
Zadar has two amazing things to enjoy, the sea organ and a salute to the sun two very unique art/engeneering pieces. This is my video about them.
Un video de Zadar y sus dos obras únicas y sorprendentes, el organo de mar y el saludo al sol.
Sea Organ - Zadar (Morske Orgulje - Zadar)
This is a sound of sea organ that is installed on the seafront of Zadar.
Sound is reproduced when a sea wave smashes into the pipe that is at the sea level and then pushes the air that comes out from an exit that is on a bit higher level.
It was filmed/recorded with Flip Mino HD placed directly on the exit of one of those pipes to eliminate the talk and other surrounding sounds. Breathing sound is just air passing through the pipe.
Original video was just a static picture that showed the hole so I created a simple animation.
