Mosaic Canyon in Death Valley National Park
Hiked Mosaic Canyon in Death Valley National Park. As any other hike in Death Valley be careful of the temps, as on this hike once we were back to the car it was over a 100 outside. Summer time temps can get up over 120!
The hike is a 4 mile round trip.
From the parking area, proceed up the rocky wash and into the canyon. Within the first 0.25mi, the canyon abruptly narrows as the smooth marble walls of Noonday Dolomite take shape around you. The passing of grit-laden flash floods have scoured the narrow canyon and polished the smooth marble walls to a beautiful finish. Use caution hiking on the smooth slippery surfaces. You are entering designated wilderness.

We camp at Furnace Creek Campground in Death Valley. $22 per night. Lots of construction going on there at night so I don't recommend it. Mosaic Canyon is one of the most beautiful places to explore! I hope you can all get outside and enjoy!
My name is Lola (Lost On Land Again) and I love to travel around the country as often as possible. Thank you for joining me on my adventures!

Mosaic Canyon Death Valley National Park hike
Hiking Mosaic Canyon in Death Valley National Park 9-24-2016.
Mosaic Canyon starts 2 miles up a very bumpy but 2wd accessible dirt road near Stovepipe Wells resort on hwy 190 in Death Valley National Park.
The hike begins around 1000 ft elevation and rises approximately 750ft over 2 miles. I stopped just above the first dryfall, the second one is at the end of the wash you'll see when I'm up there, I didn't realize at the time it was not much farther. Apparently with some scrambling the second dryfall can also be climbed and the canyon continues up the mountain for some distance. Roxana notes a marker at one point- there is a sub trail that goes up the side of the canyon if you want a challenge. We noted several other mini trails along the canyon if you want to explore here. There are also many off trail options.
#hikeDeathValley is a yearly National Park program i mention in the video- The program began in 2015. Every year there is first a sticker design contest, in Sept they announced next year's sticker design. Next the Park creates a list of hikes of varying intensity, and assigns points to each hike. The hike list and sticker are released at the start of the year.
You do hikes to earn 4 points, and get a sticker. There are hikes for all skill levels including handicap accessible options.
After you complete your hikes, take your selfies to the Visitor Center and show them to a Ranger and they will give you a free sticker! The rules are not hard and fast, if you are unable to complete a hike or don't quite earn all the points you can still get a sticker. It's about getting you out into the Park and having a good time!
I did the 2 point Badlands Loop in June, and asked Roxana to pick out another 2 point hike for us to do on this trip. I think she made a great choice, and even better it was on our route into the Park.

Join us on our two mile hike from the parking lot to the dry waterfall at the upper reaches of Mosaic Canyon. Follow the deep canyon carved by grit-laden flash floods that polished the marble canyon walls. This sequence was shot with a Canon HFS-100 and edited in Adobe Premier CS5.

Mosaic Canyon - Death Valley National Park
Highest Temperature Ever 135°F (57.22° C) - Death Valley National Park, Mosaic Canyon
Death Valley National Park is known for its extreme high temperatures. On official records, 134F is highest temperature recorded at DeathValley on July10, 1913. Its the current highest record in the world.
I was at Mosaic Canyon, Death Valley on 21st June 2018, Thursday when I took this readings on my car. 135F. Shocking!! I knew somewhere that this is quite a big temperature but never thought at that moment that this is the highest Temperature Ever Recorded On The Earth. I still don't know the error margin a car can do at such high temperatures, if I believe in technology, and understanding every product is thoroughly tested - this one is definitely closer to a real one.
All through the day I had extreme fun in chasing the temperature, and verifying at several locations. I was seeing the values around 126,127,128 most of the times, this one reading 135F at Mosaic Canyon beat them all.
Mosaic Canyon is quite unpopular place at Death Valley, there was no other visitors with me for around 2 hours.
Sadly, there was noone at this place at this time to reverify the values with a different car reading. I was exploring that place for more than a hour, nobody else came in.
If there were 3 more readings at the same time from 3 different vehicles, I felt it would have made much more sense to believe myself. A good test case - hire me as a System Test Engineer!!!

Camping in Death Valley National Park - California 4K
Why would you want to go to Death Valley, California? See why you just might want to go in the stunning 4k video here:
#DeathValley, #California blew us away as we traveled there for our first trip. We set out to find the amazing Death Valley National Park. This place is known for it's world record breaking heat. On top of that, we planned to go #camping here. We arrived at night to the Furnace Creek Campground. The next morning we set off to see Badwater Basin, which is the lowest place in North America. Then we went to the Devil's Golf Course, The Artist Palette and Artist Drive. The colors in these rocks were like nothing we have ever seen before. Then we went on the Golden Canyon hike, which is the most popular #hiking trail in Death Valley. Later we went to Dante's View, which is the best panoramic view of this amazing valley. Finally, we raced to Zabriskie Point to catch an incredible sunset there. The next morning we went back to see this amazing place in the day. We then went to Saltwater creek to see the pupfish play. We stopped for a moment in hopes to find the super bloom, which is flowers growing road side here. Soon after, we went to the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. These are some of the most amazing sand dunes in southern California. Last but not least, we went to hike the Mosaic Canyon trail. The rock formations were like a work of art. There was so much things to do here that we have to visit this epic destination again!
