Here's my own Singapore tour at the Arab Quarter (Kampong Glam), visiting Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) and Haji Lane, the famous Arab Street in Singapore city. From there, we take the metro to Chinatown, where we stroll the streets and visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. We close the day at Pinnacle@Duxton, a residential building where you can access the rooftop. Lots of travel tips in between to help you plan your visit to Singapore!
Sinapore is certainly among the top South east Asia countries everyone should travel to.

SINGAPORE | Haji Lane and Arab Street
Took a short walk down Beach Road from Golden Mile Tower, and I found a hidden gem: Haji Lane. The small alley was filled with graffiti and tonnes of hipster-ish cafes and boutiques.
Arab Street was right next to Haji Lane, and it also houses one of the biggest mosque in Singapore. The area is also thriving with fabric shops and some tourists attraction.

The primary purpose of the mosque is to serve as a place where Muslims can come together to pray. While today are not only known worldwide for their general importance to the Muslim community, but also as signs of Islamic architecture. From the architectural point of view, the mosques have evolved significantly since the outdoor spaces, as they were at the time of the Quba and Masjid an-Nabawi in the seventh century.
Sultan Mosque is a mosque in Singapore and is located in Kampung Glam. It is a most important mosques in the country. Sultan Hussain has the intention to build a mosque on par with his status. He built a mosque on the palace from 1824 to 1826 and received funding from the British East India Company. The original mosque was a roofed building pyramids lined up two and a common architecture of the time.
The mosque was initially administered by the grandson of the Sultan, the Alauddin Shah until 1879. During 1914, the local government has been extending the lease for the land and the mosque to 999 years. A board of trustees was established to take care of the affairs of the mosque.
Singapore, in the early 1900s has been the commercial center of Islam and has attracted many merchants to reside in Kampong Glam. Because of this mosque could not accommodate the growing number of Muslim pilgrims and also has become obsolete, the board of trustees Sultan decided to build a larger mosque in 1924.
Architect Denis Santry of Swan and Maclaren firm appointed for construction work, has been in the pipeline architecture, taking ideas from style mosques Indo-Arab as well as incorporating a tower shape and margins. The construction of this mosque took four years and completed in 1928.
Sultan Mosque Design has not changed since it was rebuilt in 1924, with only repairs carried out to the main hall in the 1960s and also the construction of an additional building in 1993. The mosque has been declared by the Singapore government as a national monument on March 14 1975.

This mosque was built when Nort Bridge road has not been built through the area that is now called the Arab street. Located across the street from Sultan Mosque at the corner of Arab Street and Bridge Road is the legendary Singapore Zam Zam, one of the most famous places to eat murtabak the entire city. They are nearly always busy, and while they do have a full menu of Indian dishes, including rice and curry, they are most well known for their murtabak.
Originally ar Arab food, murtabak in Singapore is often a combination of Arab and Indian flavors and cooking methods. The process begins with a ball of dough with is pounded out into a very thin sheet by tossing and flapping the dough. Once it’s paper thin, a mixture of spices and minced meat (depending upon what murtabak version you ordered) is mixed up into the middle of the dough. Next, one of the most important things to add is an egg - and at Zam Zam he expertly tossed in the egg, then mixed it up with his hand so it almost immediately mixed. The next step it was wrapped up into a package so the dough was covering all sides, and then it was tossed onto a hot skillet filled with oil where it deep fried and fried until crispy and golden brown on all sides.
I decided to go with two different types of murtabak, one filled with beef and one filled with chicken, and they were both served with a curry dipping sauce on the side. There were five different sizes of the murtabak that you could order as well, and I chose the medium size, but we got two of them to share. Both of the murtabaks were extraordinarily delicious, filled with a combination of minced meat and chicken, plus egg, lots of onions, and some spices. And having the bowl of curry sauce on the side to add to each bite, elevated it to make it even better. I thought the chicken murtabak was the best, but the curry sauce served with the beef one was better. So they were both delicious.

Masjid Sultan, or Sultan Mosque, is a mosque located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road within the Kampong Glam precinct of the district of Rochor in Singapore. It was named after Sultan Hussain Shah. In 1975, it was designated a national monument.
With its massive golden domes and huge prayer hall, Sultan Mosque is a must-see if you’re in the historic Kampong Glam district.
Masjid Sultan, as it is also known, is a prominent mosque in Singapore and one of the country’s most impressive religious buildings.
Fit for a king
The mosque was built in 1824 for Sultan Hussein Shah, the first sultan of Singapore. Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, gave S$3,000 to the construction of a single-storey building with a double-tiered roof.
A hundred years later, the old mosque was in desperate need of repair. The present mosque as you see it today was designed by Denis Santry from Swan and Maclaren, Singapore’s oldest architectural firm, and rebuilt in 1932.
A little-known fact about the mosque’s reconstruction—North Bridge Road was actually forced to bend around the mosque as it was extended beyond Arab Street.
Glass base
While you’re there, inspect the onion-shaped domes. Each dome base is decorated with glass bottle ends, donated by lower-income Muslims during its construction so that all Muslims, not just the rich, could contribute.
Gazetted as a national monument in 1975, the mosque has long been a focal point for the Muslim community. If you’re there during Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, check out the night market in the area and its many food stalls.
And do hop on the mosque’s informative guided tours—guides can speak English, Malay, Chinese, and even Japanese.
