This region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Moss Landing has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated Csb on climate maps.[7]Moss landing is most noted as the gateway to Elkhorn Slough, one of the largest wetlands in the state. Elkhorn Slough is a precious resource and is always ranked in the top 10 best birding spots in the US according to the Audubon’s annual bird count. There are over 350 species of bird that migrate through the area annually. It is also known as one of the best spots in the world to see sea otters. Moss Landing lies in the northern part of Monterey County and has numerous restaurants, galleries, a bed and breakfast, and is the home port to many fishing and pleasure boats.[citation needed]Moss Landing is located where Elkhorn Slough makes an estuary as it flows into Monterey Bay at the head of the submarine Monterey Canyon.

Moss Landing Fishing in California: Caught First Ever Lingcod Luckily Off Jetty On TINY Lures!
CAUGHT MY FIRST EVER LINGCOD OFF THE JETTY IN MOSS LANDING, CALIFORNIA USING TINY SABIKI LURES!
Went out fishing sometime in the fall of 2015 with a friend to the Moss Landing Jetty. After hours of only catching a rainbow perch I was surprised by this big bite and dive of the fish. However, I will say that I got lucky as one of the two hooks on my Sabiki lure pierced its stomach, which led me to landing it easier. I caught it on the North Jetty in Moss Landing, California and it was 25 inches.
Here is a link to the fishing lure I used to catch it with:
However, this was a highly uncommon occurrence and I got lucky as the second hook pierced it's belly during the fight. Here are some links to other lures I used after this to catch lingcod off a kayak.

This would be one of the motivations and inspiration of going fishing more often and targeting bigger fish! I later learned and caught more of these Lingcod fish throught experience with the huge teeth and Marine Biology. These are predatory species that commonly hide in holes and caves created by the formations of the rocks. They will wait hiding and also camouflage themselves until an unsuspecting prey comes along to have their meal. I believe I got really lucky as these fish are known for targeting large prey, unlike my tiny Sabiki. Thank you all for watching, I will make a better edit soon with more videos and pictures.
