Quick Overview of our Awesome 3.5 Mile Hike up a Beautiful Mountain in New Hampshire Mt Kearsarge.
Hiking Mt Kearsarge in Central New Hampshire
Mount Kearsarge is a 2,937 foot mountain located in the towns of Wilmot and Warner, New Hampshire. Our ascent would start at the Winslow State Park at the northwest slope of Mt. Kearsarge.
We chose Mt Kearsarge as a training hike for our more difficult August hike to the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail on Mt Katahdin in Maine. Certainly Mt Katahdin is significantly higher and longer and more difficult to climb, but both mountains have very rocky and steep terrain.
Mount Kearsarge has multiple trails and a bare rockbound summit. The summit has an observation fire tower operated by the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands When the fire tower is staffed it is open to the public.
The summit also has a communications cell phone tower with its utility sheds.
From the summit on a clear day lies a spectacular view of the White Mountains and Mt. Cardigan in the north, the Green Mountains and Mt. Sunapee in the west and the Monadnock Region and the Merrimack Valley in the south. The summit with its towers are a distinctive landmark and is easily seen from Interstate 89 and the Country Club of New Hampshire.
We chose to summit from Winslow State Park with the option of two trails, Winslow Trail and Barlow Trail.
The Winslow Trail, marked with red blazes, begins at the park's parking area. Winslow Trail climbs for 1.1 miles (1,100 vertical feet) through the forest and over bare granite ledge to the 2,937-foot summit.
The Barlow Trail, marked with yellow blazes, also leaves from the same parking area at Winslow Park and provides a longer, but more gradual ascent to the summit. Several vistas along the 1.7 mile trail afford views of the Andover area, Ragged Mountain, and Mount Cardigan.
We decided to ascend via the longer Barlow Trail and to descend using the much steeper but shorter Winslow Trail. This time of year due to the wet spring run-off and mossy rocks the Winslow Trail was slippery.
Early June is the black fly season, and they were plentiful on the day of our trek.

Sub Zero Thanksgiving Day Hike | Mt Kearsarge (Wilmot/Warner) | Hiking New Hampshire
Went out to hike this VERY cold Thanksgiving Day again. We ended up hiking Mt Kearsarge in sub zero temps and a pretty large wind chill factor. Our initial plan was to drive to the Whites and hike Middle Sugarloaf. We were probably 15 minutes from Middle Sugarloaf but the weather was terrible. Cloudy, foggy, snowy, windy. Decided to call it. Looked for a mountain down south away from the cloudy weather of the Whites and landed at Mt Kearsarge.
We parked at Kearsarge Rd and the gate up to Winslow State Park that is locked during the Winter. So the hike up and down was a total of about 4.2 miles. The hike up the road is easy gradual elevation. The hike on trail (we took the winslow trail) was pretty easy all together as well. Was really well packed down when we went. Our plan was to cook a Mountainsgiving up there but due to the winds and temps that was kind of out of the cards this year.
All in all a great hike. The summit felt like another planet.

This was my fifth New Hampshire county highpoint. This is a video of a hike up Mount Kearsarge in Warner, NH. This should not be confused with Mount Kearsarge in Conway, NH. The first 3/4 of the way up was fine, but on the top, there was heavy rain, 40 mph winds, and fog.

A Visit At The Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum, Warner, NH
Walking With Our Sisters exhibit is coming to New Hampshire August 2016 and the women tell us about the planning happening about halfway into this presentation and show some of the children's moccasins that represent the children that did not return from residential school which now accompanies the WWOS exhibit. NH 52 With a View - Mt Kearsarge North - Winter
Kearsarge North is a 3268 foot mountain located about 4 miles northeast of North Conway, Carroll County, New Hampshire
This trip starts at the Kearsarge North trail head and accends 3.1 miles to the summit. At the top there is a fire tower with 360 degree views. The fire tower is open to the public and they allow you to spend the night in it.

Took the Dog for a short hike up Mt Kearsarge. Just a small mountain at 2,970 ft but great for the family or a run.

At The Summit of Mount Kearsarge - Wilmot, NH
After nearly an hour of hiking up the Barlow Trail, I finally managed to make it to the summit of Mount Kearsarge. Furthermore, the summit had to be one of the rockiest summits that I have ever hiked on. But what's even more interesting is that the summit also has a transmission tower and an observation tower (Which looks a lot similar to the one that I saw on Pack Monadnock last year). But apart from all that, it was a great hike indeed!

Winslow State Park - Wilmot, NH
Now we are here at Winslow State Park in Wilmot, NH as me and the rest of the people from West Congregational Church that were on this hike are about to begin the hike up Mount Kearsarge (Of people can also hike the to the top of the mountain from Rollins State Park in nearby Warner, NH too). There were 2 trails that visitors could hike on and I chose the longer Barlow Trail (which is 1.6 miles long and less steep. The other trail is the shorter Winslow Trail at 1 mile long but lot steeper). Anyways, I hope you like what you see at this park (especially the playground) and I'l see you on the summit for my next video.
Mount Kearsarge the Long Way
I decided to spend my first day off this week hiking Mount Kearsarge, but via a route new to me- the Lincoln Trail, which is the longest direct route to the top. Once I got to Rollins State Park, I tacked on about a 1/2 mile by taking the Rollins Trail to the top and back to the LT. Combined with my 0.3 diversion to Baker Ledge halfway up, this hike came out to be around 10 miles roundtrip. Felt like I was climbing a 4,000 footer stat-wise...

Mount Kearsarge North
NH Fire Tower List map…
This was our #10 of 10 on the NH Views and Brews List. This mountain is also on 52 with a View list. We took the Mt Kearsarge Trail, it is a 6.2 mile round trip. The trail start out almost flat, but becomes a steady up towards the summit. The 360 degree views from the top are well worth the trip up. There is a fire tower up there that is open to the public 24/7. Be warned though that there is minimal parking at the trailhead and youmay have to park on the side of the road.

Our quest to stand at every site where a fire tower stands, once stood or was proposed, brought us to Stewarts Peak, #48 for us on the NH Fire Tower List. We bushwhacked up to the summit.
