Mount Buller Exploring Travel Diaries Melbourne Australia
Mount Buller was named after a man named Buller who worked in the British Colonial Office. The name was given to the mountain by the explorer-surveyor Major Thomas Mitchell in 1835.
From the first indigenous inhabitants to miners, bushrangers and present day locals, the mountains, rivers and lakes of the High Country have shaped Mansfield Mt Buller’s history and people.
In 1929 the first chalet was built on Mt Buller and 20 years later the mountain resort we know today had begun to emerge. To this day the mountains remain a central part of the area’s lifestyle and culture.
The National Alpine Museum at Mt Buller with its collection of ski memorabilia, artefacts and photos is a great way to discover the history and evolution of Australia's ski fields.

Summer Walking
There are two excellent walking brochures available - Summer at Mount Buller and Walking Trail Maps - which list and describe a total of ten walks ranging from the Village Circuit (3.12 km return) through the Canyon Side Trip (300 m), the Summit Nature Walk (4.1 km return), tthe Little Mount Buller Walk (5.7 km return), the Klingsporn Bridle Track (8.65 km), Delatite River Trail (8.65 km), Summit Loop (16 km), Mt Stirling via Corn Hill (16.4 km return), Woolly Butt Loop (5 km) and Mount Stirling Interpretative Trail (4.4 km)
The views on many of these walks are spectacular and the fauna and flora in summer is a wonder to behold with heath, mosslands and herbfields on the summits, snow gums and alpine ash further down the slopes and, in the valleys, manna and peppermint gums. There are wombats, bush rats and a range of birdlife (crimson rosellas, honeyeaters, gang-gang cockatoos and flame robins) on the upper plains.

The mountain bike trails at Mt. Buller are regarded as some of the best in Australia so it didn't make sense to visit and not get out for a spin. In this video I document the ride from Mt. Buller to Mt. Stirling return, via some truly amazing trails, not least Stonefly.

With fantastic snow conditions, good weather, beautiful scenery and a spoonful of determination....they set out.
MOUNT BULLER (The largest ski resort in Australia)
Mount Buller is located within the south-eastern section of Alpine National Park. It is known as Australia's largest, and Victoria's most popular, ski resort. It now has over 7,000 beds for ski season accommodation as well as 22 ski lifts. The highest lift-point is 1805 meters.

Victorian High Country - Craigs Hut - Mt Sterling
A top trip into the Vic High Country with good mate, Jas from RACINS ADVENTURES (Check him out on YouTube/Insta/FB) and our boys.
Visiting the iconic Craigs Hut, then pushing on to Mt Sterling and Howqua Hut and finishing the trip at Bindaree Falls and a camp at Bindaree Hut.
We even got a sprinkling of snow (unusual for March).

Monument Track to Craig’s Hut
After a huge day of 4wd we checked the map and saw the Monument Track cutting through to Clear Hills Track near Craig’s Hut. We could quickly duck down to the hut before our trip back to camp. Turning onto the track a sign informs us the track is not suitable for towing, how hard is it? Three quarters of the track is easy until I turn the corner and am faced with rocky step ups that to a novice like myself travelling only with my wife and kids looks beyond mine and my vehicles capabilities. A group of five vehicles heading toward me offer their assistance if I need a winch up. Pick my line, engage the rear locker, push the stick into first gear low range and the Navara makes it look simple. Seeing Craig’s Hut with my family was the reward and it didn’t disappoint.
