Colorado Family Trip with Fall Colors // South Fork as Basecamp!
South Fork is a great basecamp that offers so many different adventures from rafting, fishing, side-by-side tours, waterfalls, mountain biking, golf, and more in the surrounding National Forest.
For parents, taking your family to the mountains gives you a chance to teach them about the land and how to respect it, and also lets your kids truly enjoy it. Nature is more than just hiking a trail, going out in an OHV, fly fishing or rafting - it’s the animals, the water, the sights, sounds, and smells — it’s everything all together. So, come stand in our whispering aspen groves, soak up the Colorado sunshine, and just breath.

Experience something you truly get to be a part of, just sitting in a quiet space up here in the mountains - it’s a whole peacefulness that comes over you. South Fork’s unique because it’s a small location that gets you away from all the hustle-and-bustle and let’s you REALLY experience the mountains with your family. South Fork is quiet, not overwhelmed with people. You go a mile out of town in any direction and you’re pretty much by yourself. The uncluttered scenery is hard to beat, and hard to describe. We love the Fall Season because the weather is blissfully mild and the filtered sunshine paints color-bursting mountains.

Troop 380 Mountain Man Canoe Trip: June 1978 South Fork Shenandoah River
June 1978 Mountain Man Canoe trip on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Mike Johnson joined Boy Scout Troop 380 in 1957. It was a very active troop sponsored by St. Peter's Catholic Church that did a lot of camping and backpacking. Mike achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1960, and a year later, the Bronze, Gold, and Silver Eagle Palms with a total of 42 Merit Badges. He was also an Order of the Arrow member.
After returning from two Vietnam tours with the USS Constellation-CVA-64 in 1969 Mike spent time with an affiliate Troop and in 1976 returned to Troop 380 as an assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor. He and Scoutmaster Pete Ryan, also an avid outdoorsman, established the Mountain Man Primitive Camping outfit for advanced campers who liked to go. Mike retired from Scouting in 1981.
Mike had his Roughshod Records label-mate James Adelsberger [also an Eagle Scout] compose the score, Mountain Man for this presentation.

Colorado Whitewater Rafting - Noah's Ark Rafting
A bucket list item of mine and something that I needed to do in Colorado was whitewater rafting. On Saturday, May 10th that bucket list item was crossed off. We ran an all day trip on the Arkansas River specifically through Brown's Canyon. We went out of Noah's Ark located just south of Buena Vista and they were great! Their customer service was amazing, they have knowledgeable and interactive guides, we were able to put in the river from their location, they provided a delicious and healthy lunch, and they have all types of fun activities (hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, camping, adventure park) for the family. Fishing the North Fork | Remote Trout Fishing in Idaho from a Raft
Went to the North Fork of the Snake River today and caught some trout! It was my first time floating the river in a raft and it was awesome!!! We parked at the top of a boat slide, drug the boat down the mountain, rafted and fished for a few hours and had an awesome time! We caught a handful of trout on spinners but ill definitely be using my fly rod next time to catch more trout!

This motorcycle ride has lots of Rocky Mountain activities included. It follows the Arkansas River and the Collegiate Range in the Buena Vista area.
The Collegiate Peaks Byway stretches 57 miles through Chaffee County, including US 24 north of Granite, where it connects to the southern portion of the Top of the Rockies Byway at US 24 and CO 82. The byway follows US 24 southward through Buena Vista, and continues south on US 285 to US 50 and the Town of Poncha Springs. The byway then turns eastward on US 50 to Salida, turns northward on CO 291 through Salida's Historic Downtown, and reconnects with US 285.
This ride is on a road less traveled that runs parallel with the Collegiate Peaks Byway in the Upper Arkansas Valley.
American River Rafting... Floating!
Floating along the American River on a summer Saturday in Sacramento... there are fewer more joyful things to do on the valley floor on a hot day like last Saturday in Sacramento. Every so often, I like to discuss something other than politics and events in the news. If you go up into the Foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, a 40 minute drive from Sacramento, you can do some serious white water rafting. Where we went is right here on the valley floor, which means rafting is almost the wrong word... what Jason and I did was float. We call it rafting because we each bring a 2 man raft and float all about. It draws a lot of people and has a party-like atmosphere. There are definitely some fun little rapid-like sections, and plenty of water wars, the occasional topless female, lots of drunk dudes, oh did I mention I saw a Blue Heron. (That's a bird) It really is a beautiful river and a very pleasant ride.
As for this video... perhaps my longest single cut vlog ever. Yes, if uh... y'know... is really annoying to you and y'know, uh... then this is probably the wrong uh... video of mine to ...y'know.... uh... to watch. Of course, by putting this at the end of the description, it is a bit of a late warning, and you have all probably figured this out by now. CoffeeShopPunk, You rock, I promise, I won't mess with Texas! Isn't that the slogan? Oh, yea, where was I? Still writing a description for this rafting on the American River video. Okay, anyway, thanks, as always for reading, and read all you want, I'll write more.

Search discontinued for missing man tubing along South Platte River
The search for a missing man who was celebrating his 21st birthday on the South Platte River Saturday has been suspended.
Sheridan police were called to an area north of West Union Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses stated a man fell from an inner tube and was swept down the river.
Several people tried to pull the man from the water but the fast-moving current prevented their rescue efforts.
The victim was last seen about one quarter mile north of Union Avenue floating in the river, according

Rescue from Rainbow Springs
Our family backpacking trip gets interesting when a forest fire blocks the trail home. This was the early development of the West Fork Fire which later grew and decimated more than 109,000 acres near Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado. Thanks to all the great people in the National Forest Service and all the firefighters who risk their lives everyday on the job to protect homes and families. Special thanks to you Jesse Jones for your dedication and your kindness to our boys. Oliver had the best back to school what I did this Summer story in the class.
