Darjeeling Sandakphu Trek - The best trekking destination in Darjeeling, India. | #sandakphutrek
When people hear about Darjeeling, most think of the famous tea plantations. If they know more about the area, they might think of Darjeeling as a jumping off point for mountain treks in Sikkim. Little do people know that just a short drive from Darjeeling lie some of the greatest trails in India. Several days of hiking/walking/trekking around Darjeeling will leave you with a positive lasting impression of this natural dreamland.
Where else in the world can you get a sweeping view of four out of the five highest peaks in the world? From the summit of Sandakphu (3636 meters / 11,929 feet), Mount Everest (8848 meteres), Kanchenjunga (8586 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), and Makalu (8481 meters) can be seen in all their majesty. Each of our treks visit Sandakhpu – the highlight of trekking in Darjeeling.
Singalila National Park is a nature lover’s paradise. Feel the cool mountain air as you are surrounded by rhododendron, orchid, pine and bamboo trees. In fact, there are over 600 varieties of orchids in the area! These lush forests are home to a diverse group of wildlife. Dispersed along the trails, you might run into the elusive red panda, leopard, barking deer, Himalayan black bar, serow, takin, and countless other wonderful species.
As is the case with all treks, you will have an authentic cultural experience with the locals in each passing village. Eat the same food as those who live in the area, while learning about their customs, culture, and everyday lifestyle. The mountain views are part of the adventure, but spending time with Gurung, Rai, Limbu, and other fascinating ethnic groups adds much cultural value to the journey. Also, nothing beats finishing a long day of trekking and being greeted with a hot plate of dal bhaat (traditional meal) and a glass of chhang (local rice beer).
Ashmita Trek and Tours offers trekking packages for all types of trekkers. Even if you have no trekking experience, we will show you the time of your life on a beautiful mountainside trail. Besides, none of the trails in Darjeeling are too strenuous for even a beginner.
The best time to trek in Darjeeling is during the spring time (March to May) and autumn (September to November), though we do lead treks throughout the year. However, the eerie cloud patterns and lack of tourists make trekking during the summer months quite an experience. Also, winter offers cooler temperatures, but bright blue skies.

GOECHA LA TREK IN SIKKIM
This video was shot in autumn of 2019.
Goechala Trek is your chance to visit the hallowed land of the highest mountain in India and the 3rd highest mountain in the World – Khangchendzonga(8586m) in the Kingdom of Sikkim. You will be delighted each day of the trip by the Buddhist culture of the place, its natural beauty and the warmth of the locals. The trip spans the Nepalese hinterland of East India covering Darjeeling and West Sikkim. Right from day 1, the Khangchendzonga range covers the north sky and grows in size as we inch closer and closer until Goechala, where we are just 9 kms away from its formidable North face. You will have to crane your neck to get a good sight at the summit from here.
The trip starts with 2 days at the Tea Capital of Darjeeling, the charming hill station town built by the British. We then move on to Yuksom in West Sikkim, the start point for the 8 day trek rich in flora and fauna. There is a wide variety of orchids, ferns, rhododendrons and bamboo…the thick vegetation with snow mountains peeking through the branches, the yaks and dzos ambling along with load on their backs is a common sight along the trail. During Spring, this region is home to some of the biggest and most colourful blooming rhododendrons in the Himalaya.
Rated among the finest walks in the Indian Himalaya, the trek to Goechala and back will leave you craving for more.

God gifted us beautiful Himalayans ranges. Trekking in Himalayas is never worthless. Respect Himalayan and don't take shortcut. Please don't dirty it by your foolish activity.
Goechala is a beautiful trek in Sikkim. Sikkim is a beautiful state in northeast India. This trek is also known as Kanchenjunga base camp trek. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain n the world and highest mountain in India. This trek is complete package of everything. You can see river, meadows, forest, orchid, sometimes snow etc.
This is complete 9 days trek. We started this trek from Yuksom on 25 Sep 2015 and completed on 3 Oct 2015. The video was shot from Yuksom to Goechala View point 3. We returned on the same path so no need to shot same again. The film was shot inside Kanchenjunga National Park, Sikkim.
First two days was boring because of bad weather. Views were amazing from 3rd days of this trek. This trek was full of suspense. Every day was full of new challenges. We didn’t know which challenges were waiting for us and how much beautiful mountain will be.
Summit day was very tiring but the experience was wonderful. We started our trek at 2AM, because we had to walk 18 KM, 1000 meter uphill and 1000 meter downhill. It took 14 hours. It was a lifetime experience which we will never forget.
The height is mansion in every step in this video. I have verified this height by standard application of smart phone with the help of Satellites.
I am thankful to our entire team for such beautiful trek. I am thankful to Ayan Sengupta, who gave me company up to Goechala view point 2 and our guide who encourage me to go further to Goechala view point 3, when I was unable to decide whether I should go further or not. Because this is my first trek and I was only person among 130 on that day who reached the summit (Goechala view point 3 or Goechala pass) successfully.

Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary trek:-
1:- Bharsey Rhododendron Sanctuary lies in the south west corner of the West Sikkim district. Spreading over 104 sq. km, across the razor sharp Singalila Range, which forms the natural international border with Nepal. There are three points of entry ino this sanctuary from Hilley, Dentam and Soreng. Tourists generally prefer Hilley since it is approachable by road and Bharsey is only 4 km trek from this point along an undulating path shaded by different species of rhododendron.
The bridle path from Hilley to Barsey is a favorite amongst tourists especially during the Rhododendron flowering season. The faunal value of Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary includes Leopard cat , Himalayan Yellow Throated Marten , Himalayan Palm Civet, Himalayan Langur, Crimson Horned Pheasant, Monal Pheasant, Kaleej and many diverse species of birds.
The Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary spans over the razor sharp Singalila Range. The climate is wet and cold favoring the spread of the dominant genus Rhododendron. July is the wettest month, with the average annual precipitation being in excess of 250 cm. The reaches above 2500m receive regular snowfall in winter. Clear skies can be experienced only from November to May.
A beautiful Tourist Trekker's hut exists in Barsey, amidst the Rhododendron forests at 10,000 feet, commanding a glorious view of the Singalila Range. Boarding and Lodging facilities are available
