The Magdalena Peninsula is a 69-acre peninsula located near the entrance to the Bay of Santander in the city of Santander, Cantabria along the north coast of Spain. The peninsula is a popular recreational destination for both tourists and locals.
The historic Palacio de la Magdalena is located on the peninsula, which along with its surrounding gardens, is designated as a cultural heritage site. Also located on the peninsula is a small zoo, three galleons of the Cantabrian mariner Vital Alsar Ramírez, two beaches and a lighthouse.
The Peninsula of La Magdalena covers an approximate area of 25 hectares. It is one of the topographical projections of the Bay of Santander, the largest estuary in Cantabria. Access to the Peninsula, if it is not by the sea or by the beaches overlooking the Bay, is usually gained via Reina Victoria Avenue and Juan de Borbón Street, which give direct access to entrance of the public park, located to the West of the Peninsula, at its narrowest part. Admission to the enclosure is free from 8 to 22 hours, and cars are not allowed unless they have express authorization. Several footpaths go through the place, which is very accessible, although we must be careful with cliff areas. From the Peninsula we can gain access to the beaches of La Magdalena and Bikini. Its busiest road is the one that surrounds the Peninsula, offering magnificent coastal views.
The southern slope of the Peninsula offers a magnificent panorama of the Bay of Santander, with the terrain of the inner region as a beautiful backdrop. On this side we find two beaches of Santander: La Magdalena Beach, westwards, and Bikini Beach, so-named at the end of the 1950s for being the first place where this garment was seen on the bodies of foreign girls coming to the city as students or tourists. In front of this beach stands the island of La Torre (wrongly called “island of Los Ratones” by some locals), in which is located the Sailing School. When Queen Isabel II visited Santander in 1861, a shop was set up here. It was because of its shape that the place was named for a time “island of La Corona” (The Crown). Very near this rock is the island of La Horadada, an important enclave for the local imaginary given that legend has it that the heads of Holy Martyrs Emeterio and Celedonio went through it on board a stone boat. A few years ago a strong storm brought down the natural rock bridge naming this little island, which houses a small buoy.
Following its uneven perimeter, the Peninsula features several “points” or projections: La Punta del Puerto and La Punta del Higar, eastwards, and La Punta del Caballo and La Palomera, northwards. Almost from the beginning of the isthmus, it gains height until it reaches the peak at the site of the Palace, which is almost completely surrounded by spectacular cliffs.
To the Northeast we can contemplate one of the most important islands in the Cantabrian coast, the island of Mouro. Located a few metres from the beginning of the Bay, housing Cabo Menor Lighthouse, it is a key location for sailors and fishermen. It is also notable for the richness of its natural reserve. The northern part of the Peninsula offers a magnificent view of the cove of El Sardinero up to Cabo Mayor Lighthouse.

El 'Ono', armado por Daniel de la Pedraja, patroneado por Diego Botín y con Jon Larrazábal, Alberto Padrón y Santi López-Vázquez en la tripulación, es el nuevo campeón de Cantabria de la clase J80. El primero de los eventos puntuables para esta categoría del Circuito Montañés 2017, que organiza El Diario y el Real Club Marítimo de Santander, finalizó el domingo en aguas del Abra de El Sardinero con la disputa de las pruebas número 4 y 5, en una jornada veraniega con viento suave del noroeste y la mar como un plato. Fue el punto y final a la competición iniciada el sábado, cuando se celebraron las tres primeras regatas en el interior de la Bahía santanderina. Fue un fin de semana de lujo para los patrones y tripulantes de los 18 barcos participantes.
No fue, ni mucho menos, un título fácil para el barco del caña olímpico, que sufrió más de la cuenta para administrar la renta de cuatro puntos que había conseguido el sábado al hacer su serie de 1-2-2.
Alrededor de las 11.30 horas de ayer, los barcos se dirigieron hacia el Abra, pero a la hora prevista para la salida, las 12.00, no había condiciones estables, por lo que los jueces izaron la bandera de aplazamiento. Sin embargo, pocos minutos después saltó una pequeña brisa y, con gran agilidad, el Comité de Regatas fondeó la embarcación 'Groucho' entre la Isla de Mouro y el Palacio de La Magdalena, para montar la salida y comenzar con las pruebas del día, que incluían cuatro tramos de 0,7 millas cada una de las regatas, con las balizas de barlovento fondeadas para viento noroeste.
En la primera salida admitida, el 'Mercury' atacó la primera ceñida por el lado izquierdo del campo, buscando más presión de viento y menos corriente en contra. Acertó plenamente con su estrategia, ya que consiguió escaparse mucho del grueso de la flota y marcarse una victoria contundente en la manga, liderando durante todo el recorrido. El 'Par', de Ignacio Camino, le siguió muy de cerca. Tenía muchas ganas de resarcirse de una floja actuación en la jornada previa y consiguió acabar la manga en segunda posición, por delante del equipo 'Maui Jim Sunglasses', capitaneado por Javier Aguado, con el casco y media tripulación del 'Aila'. En cuarta posición, tras remontar varios puestos después de una floja salida y complicada primera ceñida, llegaba el 'Ono' y quinto terminaba el 'Granuja', con Alfonso Pascual al timón.
Clasificación apretada
Así las cosas, y entrando ya en juego los descartes al haberse disputado cuatro mangas, la clasificación general se apretaba con el 'Mercury' quitándose el 12 del día anterior y poniéndose como líder provisional -con dos victorias parciales- empatado a cinco puntos con el 'Ono', que en ese momento descartaba un 4. El barco de Aguado bajaba al tercer puesto, pero a sólo tres puntos del líder. El 'Biobizz', con José Azqueta y Pablo Santurde, se caía del podio por un solo punto. Se esperaba, por tanto, una quinta y última regata final de infarto, que decidiese el cajón final del campeonato.
En la salida destacó el 'Kia', que buscaba con ahínco un buen sabor final de campeonato tras una floja primera manga. El barco de Obregón y Pereda mandó en todos los pasos de baliza y se llevó la manga, pero ya no contaba para el podio en la general. Lo mismo que el 'Par', que repitió de nuevo un segundo puesto y fue el que mejores parciales del día sumó (2-2), pero sólo pudo remontar hasta el quinto en la general tras su aciago sábado.
El campeonato de verdad se lo estaban jugando entre 'Mercury', 'Ono', 'Maui Jim' y 'Biobizz'. A Jaime Piris le servía con entrar justo por delante del 'Ono', siempre y cuando no hiciera peor que un cuarto. Al cerrar la primera vuelta contaba con esa privilegiada situación, pero en la segunda, llegando a la baliza de barlovento, la tripulación del 'Ono' le ganó la partida táctica al 'Mercury'. Sufrió desventes de otros barcos que le costaron a la postre el campeonato, para alivio de la tripulación de Diego Botín. El 'Ono' cruzó finalmente la llegada en quinto puesto, por delante del 'Mercury', consiguiendo el oro y la plata absolutos, respectivamente, por escaso margen.

The Camel Beach is a beach located in the municipality of Santander , capital of the autonomous community of Cantabria ( Spain ). Camel beach faces east. It is located parallel to Queen Victoria Avenue and perpendicular to Magdalena Avenue, between the beaches of El Sardinero and the peninsula of La Magdalena .
Playa del Camello is a beach of about 10 000 square meters located well below the level to which the promenade that surrounds it, reason why it is necessary to go down stairs and / or ramps to accede to her.
To the west is a large parking lot. By the south the avenue of the Magdalena and by the north a rocky zone with a small mountain crowned with a statue of Neptune child, work of Ramon Muriedas Mazorra . The statue was placed in 1979 (International Year of the Child). Due to its state of deterioration, with both arms and trident carried broken, the statue was withdrawn in 2012.
Playa del Camello is common to find people playing with shovels . (There is a zone enabled for this). It does not have a specific fauna and the flora is little habitable. Above all, mollusks abound, and children climb the rocks to collect them.
From the Camello beach you can see the northern end of the Magdalena peninsula , but this is at a higher altitude, so you only see in the foreground the rocks of the small cliffs that surround your zoo and the fences of this. Strong winds and high waves stroke Spanish Northern coast on Monday (March 3).
Red weather warnings are in force on Tuesday in Cantabria, Galicia, the Basque Country and Asturias, after strong winds of between 120km/h and 140km/h, rough seas and colossal waves stroke Spanish Northern coast.
