check out my two journeys - one to Mt Hood, and the second to the Mt Hood Adventure park!
Mount Hood, called Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon. It was formed by a subduction zone on the Pacific coast and rests in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is located about 50 miles (80 km) east-southeast of Portland, on the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties. In addition to being Oregon's highest mountain, it is one of the loftiest mountains in the nation based on its prominence.
Mount Hood Skibowl is a recreation area on Mount Hood located near Government Camp, Oregon. It is the largest night ski area in the United States, and the total skiable area encompasses an area of 960 acres.

Mount Hood Climb, Oregon A Climb to the Summit - CH Action Adventures
Mount Hood is a historic landmark, and is the tallest mountain in the state of Oregon, measuring 11,240' at the summit. There are a number of paths to the summit. The path taken in this video was The Old Chute, located on the south side of the mountain. While we departed for the climb at 12:30 am, we actually began the ascent at 1:00am and reached the summit at 5:57am. Mt Hood is a dangerous and strenuous technical climb (class 2 glacier climb), one that should not be attempted unless you are with a very experienced mountaineer. Each year, there are multiple fatalities on Mount Hood, because there is very little margin for error. The climb is steep, and at times, it is on ice. However, if you can make it to the summit, the reward for doing so is a 360 degree unlimited view of most of the state of Oregon, and knowing that you just achieved something very special.

Mirror Lake Trail - Mount Hood National Forest, Government Camp, OR - (May 2019)
The string of great weather in the PNW continues so we headed up to the mountain and completed the very popular Mirror Lake Trail. The hike from the trailhead to the lake is about 2 miles with the extended hike to the top of Tom, Dick & Harry Mountain being another 1.5 miles.
If you plan to do the full hike, get to the trailhead early as it is a very busy trail. If you want to complete the full hike, wait until the temperature warms up in the summer as the melting snow in the spring can make this much more challenging.

Grant's Getaways: Mt. Hood History and Huckleberries
Early morning – when air is cool and scenery quiet – Mt Hood is a marvel! The first stop is Government Camp, one of many small villages that ring the Mt Hood region, but this one offers a fine drop-in site so you can get your bearings: the Mt Hood Cultural Center and Museum. Then it's into the Mt. Hood National Forest for huckleberry foraging.

I was in the back seat as we heading to Mount Hood Ski Bowl from Mt. Bachelor. Such a nice view but we didn't have time to stop the car.

Finding Oregon is the compilation of six months of timelapse photography across the state of Oregon, punctuated by a 1600 mile road trip in September. We've filmed the Columbia River Gorge, Mt Hood, Mt Jefferson, the Southwestern Coast, the Alvord Desert, Leslie Gulch, Blue Mountains, Crater Lake, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Deschutes River, and more. We're proud to have touched all four corners of the state; however Oregon is the kind of place that the more you see, the more places there are to still discover.
The greatest challenge with this project was being in the right place at the right time. Night timelapse sequences particularly have an unexpected number of requirements to get the bright, stunning payoff. First, the moon should be around the New Moon phase (no moon) so as not to compete with outshining the stars, so that means we get about 5 days a month window. Next, weather must be cooperative with a dependable expectancy of cloudless skies. Here in Oregon, only the Summer months have good chance of clear skies, so only 1/4 of the year offers good chance of clear skies. So that means, we have three months in the year, with a 5 day window each month to plan with fingers crossed for epic star shooting conditions. That's only 15 days in a year. Then, you hope that something doesn't come up in regular life to pull you away to other obligations on those few days. It is a maddening challenge getting all the factors to line up to be in the right place at the right time. But, when it does happen- it is such a satisfying feeling!

Faster than it looks. And a lot more fun. Fasted the gps showed was 30mph and my fastest run was right about 1 minute I think. They said the fastest was 44 seconds. That's crazy cause we were flying on our fastest runs! Saw some good crashes too. Stupid girl crashed into someone and did a face plant slide.
