Mt. Ashland Ski Area Joins OregonSaves - Retirement Savings Program
OregonSaves is brought to you by Oregon State Treasury. OregonSaves gives Oregonians an easier way to save for retirement.
As Oregonians, we aren't saving enough for retirement; and without decent savings, we face tough decisions about housing, medicine, and food. More than 1 million workers in Oregon don’t have a retirement savings option at work, making it all the harder to save.
Workers in Oregon have a new, easy way to save for retirement at work. You don’t need to do anything to enroll if your employer doesn’t offer a retirement plan. You will automatically start saving a percentage of your paycheck in your own IRA (individual retirement arrangement) that will stay with you from job to job. It will always remain your money and you have total control over your account. You do not have to participate and may opt out at any time. We work hard for our money, and it’s time our money went to work for us. The result is simple: more Oregonians will save. That’s good for all of us.

Arboursabroad Wedding | Mt. Ashland Ski Resort | Southern Oregon
Jason and Heather Arbour (ArboursAbroad) got married on top of a beautiful mountain named Mt. Ashland in Southern Oregon just before the California Border on July 18th, 2013. They lived and worked in Grants Pass for just over a year before deciding that travel was really what they wanted to pursue, so they bought a one-way ticket to South America. With just about 6 months till they flew out of Southern California, they sold a large portion of their belongings and packed up to hit the road. They took a 2-month road trip across the US in their Toyota Camry with a common theme of hitting a ton of National Parks and seeing friends/family along the way. Their trip ended in Newport Beach, California at the end of October 2014 and were in Lima, Peru before Halloween. If you want to read more about their time in South America and what the rest of their journey up until now has looked like, then head on over to the blog at Cheers

Hiking up Mt. Ashland (7533') - Ashland, OR
Distance: 5 miles RT
Elevation Gain: 1150'
Summit: 7532'
Located in Southern Oregon just south of Ashland along Interstate 5 between OR/CA border, Mt. Ashland is the tallest in the Siskiyou Mountain Range. It offers a variety of recreational activities....skiing, hiking, backpacking, biking and wildflowers in early summer. The hike also gives an option to explore PCT which traverses nearby.
To summit, follow a gravel road for about 1 mile from the ski-area and keep to the right hiking up the road for another 1.5 miles to the summit. There is a white Doppler Radar at the top and the actual summit is the rocky peak right behind.
Vistas seen from the summit are spectacular in all directions....Mt. McLoughlin and Mt. Shasta as well as other peaks of the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain range.

Documenting the Drought: Mt. Ashland
This is one of four videos in the series Documenting the Drought: Mitigating the Effects in Oregon. Oregon Sea Grant created them in response to the state’s 2015 drought. The videos show how certain business practices, farming techniques and riparian management strategies are better poised to tolerate dry spells in Oregon. In this video, Hiram Towle, the general manager of the Mt. Ashland ski resort, talks about how his business adapted to sparse winter snowfall by relocating snow and was thus open for 38 days in 2014-15 versus none in the prior ski season. The business aims to offer summer recreation activities like ziplining, a bungee trampoline, disc golf and concerts to supplement ski-season income.
Produced by: John Stevenson, Oregon Sea Grant climate specialist with the Oregon State University Extension Service
Edited and shot by: Vanessa Ciccone, Oregon Sea Grant videographer

Skiing Mt. Ashland with local legend Ray Redpath
I hit Mt. Ashland on a bluebird day and hooked up with Ray Redpath, an Ashland ski legend. In addition to the fun skiing with Ray, the views out to Mt. Shasta, Mt. McCloughlin, and all the way to South Sister were stunning.
