South Korea: Hanging out at Gwanak Mountain (관악산)
Hanging out in Seoul, just a few minutes from Seoul National University you will find the Gwanak Mountain which is a pretty excellent place to go see if you like pretty places, as opposed to those whored out fashion centers, for example.
We had to walk a good 20 minutes to reach this spot, maybe a little longer and there were still swarms of people there but you should have seen the bottom! During the summer and other peak seasons there are endless lines of identical looking 50 somethings, both male and female alike, dressed in hiking gear and with their traditional alcohol heading up to make a day of it.
We too were making a day of it but without all the intoxication and the whole bit about being 50... It's just when you're 50 in Seoul you don't really have anything else to do with your time so you head to the hills... The hills are pretty fun though and they don't cost any money.

???? About Dongjak District (Dongjak-gu)
Dongjak District (Dongjak-gu) is one of the 25 gu that make up the city of Seoul, South Korea. Its name was derived from the Dongjaegi Naruteo Ferry, on the Han River which borders the district to the north. It was the 17th gu created in Seoul, after being separated from Gwanak District on April 1, 1980. (refer to Wikipedia)
° Places to visit in Dongjak district
╰ Noryangjin fish market (노량진 수산시장)
Opened in 1927 on Uiju-ro, next to the Seoul Station, Noryangjin Fishery Market is one of Korea's largest seafood markets. The seafood market was moved to the newly constructed building in 1971 at Noryangjin and Suhyup took over the market to promote fishery industry, as well as to increase fisher’s income in 2002. In addition, they started modernizing projects that made it a leading fishery market in Korea, co-existing distribution and culture alike.
The market handles about 50% of metropolitan volumes and 250 to 300 tons of marine products are traded every day.
The prices of marine products are decided according to the quantity so one is recommended to visit the official website to check the bid. General retail prices are 10 to 20% higher than the auction prices. Mixing across wholesales and retails, the market offers a live atmosphere of early morning market, starting from 1 a.m. and offers various interesting scenes to see. In particular, at around 3 a.m., a live fish auction allows visitors to feel the authentic marketplace atmosphere among sellers and buyers.
╰ Boramae Park (보라매공원)
Boramae Park is a former Air Force Academy site that has been transformed into a recreational park. The symbolic tower of the Air Force Academy still stands as a powerful symbol of loyalty and filial piety.
The park also serves as the venue for cultural events, such as youth retreats and film showings. There are a variety of exercise facilities including multi-purpose areas, badminton courts, an X-game court and climbing wall, turf field, airpark, musical pond, playground, picnic sites and various other facilities.
╰ Seoul National Cemetery (국립 서울현충원)
The rear area of the Seoul National Cemetery is surrounded by the sacred mountain ridges of the Dongjak region that connect to Gongjaksan Mountain and form the foothills of Gwanaksan Mountain. Towards the front, the cemetery overlooks the meandering Hangan River.
The Seoul National Cemetery is situated on a plot of land measuring approximately 1,430,000㎡. Entombed here are the remains of 165,000 martyrs and soldiers, police officers, and reserve forces who sacrificed themselves for their country. Every year on June 6th (Memorial Day), memorial services and events are held at the Seoul National Cemetery to honor the brave patriots who fought for the country.

Driving in Seoul - Ep. 13: Guro District(서울 구로구) - Origin of the Korean Labor Movement
Guro-gu is an autonomous region in the southwest of Seoul.
This is the boundary between Gwangmyeong City and Bucheon City.
The name Guro(九老) originated from the legend that nine wise elders lived.
One of main place is the most complex Sindorim Station in Seoul.
From Sindorim Station, you can go to 'D-Cube City', E-Mart, and Homeplus.
Garibong-dong and Guro-dong are famous for the area where many Chinese people(Joseonjok) live.
In fact, when you look at the store signboard, Hangul(Korean) is written together with Hanja(Chinese).
It is fun to feel Korean and Chinese culture at the same time.
There is a Guro Digital Complex next to Garibong-dong.
In the 1960s and 1970s, manufacturing workers did low-wage hard work.
Here, there was a human rights / democratization movement of workers.
Nowadays, due to the trend of the times, the nature of the complex changed from the manufacturing industry to the information industry.
You can see here more than 100 apartment-type factories.
On the other hand, there are not many places that travelers can go to in Guro-gu.
Personally recommended places are Garibong-dong, Hang-dong Railroad, D-cube City, and Gocheok Sky Dome.
Thank you. Enjoy your driving!
