Sapporo is Japan's 5th largest city and capital of the northern island of Hokkaido, the winter wonderland I've always dreamed of visiting! I came to visit the annual Sapporo Snow Festival, and also found myself on Mount Moiwa, Japan's most beautiful mountain! That's my opinion of course. Japan is wonderful in the snow, and Mount Moiwa is no exception, I was awe struck by the huge landscape and Sapporo stretching out below me. You take two cable cars up to the summit of Mount Moiwa, where you'll find an observation platform and of course some vending machines! I traveled with my friends Donovan and Lara, who you'll see in the video! Make sure you watch to the very end...

Summer in Sapporo | Mt. Moiwa Ropeway, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Nijo Market
#Sapporo is so colorful, especially during summer! We first went to the Tanukikoji Shopping Street going to the Nijo Market. The shopping street had a lot of decor above and it was just so nice to look at. Next stop was to eat the Nijo Market. We found this resto that had a decent amount of people lining up. WORTH THE WAIT, the seafood was amazing and fresh!!! After eating, we decided to go up to the #fushimiinarishrine near the #Mt.Moiwa Ropeway. It took us around 15 mins to walk to the Shrine but it was worth it. No one was there. So it was a solemn walk thru the Tori gates. And we had a number of good shots! We then walked back to the Mt. Moiwa station to the Ropeway to buy cable car roundtrip tickets. We wanted to see the sunset and the night view at the viewing deck. We stood there for almost 2 hours to see the night lights. It was still bright up until 8pm. After the Mt. Moiwa experience with the bell and the view, we rode the street car back to Susukino Station and walked to the Ganso Ramen Alley where your ramen dreams will come true! I haven't researched about that place but I believe that ALL stalls there serve good ramen. That was the end of Day 3! Google Maps are of big help when you travel to Japan. Mount Moiwa (藻岩山, Moiwa-yama) reaching an altitude of 531 meters, is located in the middle of Sapporo city. The name of the mountain is “inkarushibe” in the Ainu language. The explorer Takeshiro Matsuura in the late-Edo period wrote in his Shiribeshi Diary, “Mt. Moiwa was not only a mountain upon which to command a view of their surroundings, but was also held as a sacred mountain where the gods dwell by the Ainu people.” From the summit visitors can view a spectacular panorama of the streets of Sapporo, Ishikari Bay in the Sea of Japan and Shokanbetsu Peak located in Mashike town . Visitors can use the ropeway or the Mt. Moiwa Sightseeing Road from the foot of the mountain to half way up. Once mid-way, visitors may ride the “Morris Car”, the world’s first drive-type mini cable car to the summit. This mountain is a popular climbing destination for the citizens of Sapporo: the five mountain trails (shortest 2.4km; longest 4.5km) are hike-able in casual clothing and are popular with mountain climbers during the summer weekends.
The Mount Moiwa Ropeway climbs from the base of the mountain three quarters up the mountain to a transfer station. From there a rather unique mini cablecar travels the rest of the way to the upper station at the summit where there is an observation deck and restaurant with nice views out over the city. The station also houses a planetarium and theater. The ropeway and building complex at the summit were reopened in 2012 after extensive renovations.
The Mount Moiwa Ski Resort lies on the mountain's southeastern slope. This skier-only resort has several runs and is close to Sapporo City; however, it is approached from a different direction than the Mount Moiwa Ropeway.

Hiking in Japan: 藻岩山 Mount Moiwa in Sapporo
When you visit Sapporo, 藻岩山 Mount Moiwa is a must do. You can either hike up to the top, shown here in this video, or take the ropeway up.
The hike is fairly easy and should take between 60-90 minutes, depending on your level of fitness.
At the top you can enjoy a stunning 360° view over Sapporo.

The Best View in Japan : Mt Moiwa Sapporo
Take a trip with me to Mt Moiwa, offering some of the most spectacular views of Sapporo and the surrounding mountains.
Mt Moiwa is easily accessible from Sapporo by taking the subway Tozai line to Maruyama station and then catching a bus to the base ropeway station. You can also take a streetcar from Sapporo to the Ropeway Iriguchi station and then catch a free shuttle bus to the base station.
There is a ropeway up to the summit of Mt Moiwa and a return ticket cost ¥1700 or you can buy an annual pass for ¥2800. At the summit station, there is a restaurant and take away cafe, as well as a planetarium. At the mid station, there is a forest gallery and a souvenir store.
In 2015 Sapporo was voted as one of the top three night views in Japan.

Hokkaido Spring 4: Nakajima, Maruyama Park & Mt Moiwa Ropeway
Day four of my first trip to Hokkaido this spring! I checked out the Nakajima Park and Maruyama Park hoping to get a glimpse of some late Sakuras (Cherry Blossoms). Unfortunately, it was already too late for them and I didn't managed to see as many blooms as I hoped. I found my way to the Hokkaido Shrine that was near maruyama Park and then eventually made my way to Mt Moiwa Ropeway. Catching the sunset on the ropeway was the most magical part of the trip!
