In Colorado, US 24 runs from Interstate 70 (and implicitly with, U.S. Route 6) from Minturn where it goes through Minturn and continues south to the Continental Divide at Tennessee Pass. It continues south to Johnson Village and then joins with U.S. Route 285 northbound to the Trout Creek Pass. After the pass, US 24 separates from US 285 and continues east to Colorado Springs and then northeast to Limon, where US 24 joins I-70 for most of the rest of its routing to the Kansas state line.
When the United States Highway System was started in 1926, US 24 in Colorado was designated U.S. Route 40S. It began in Grand Junction and went east along the current Interstate 70 corridor to Minturn, from which it follows the current route to Limon. From Limon east to the Kansas border, the current US 24 was designated U.S. Route 40N. US 40S west of Limon and US 40N east of Limon received the US 24 designation in 1936, when US 24 was extended west from Kansas City, Missouri. The segment between Grand Junction and Minturn was decommissioned in 1975.

Arkansas Headwaters - In A Colorado Minute (Week 204)
--- ---
The Arkansas River actually begins its journey in Colorado, where its waters are derived from the Rocky Mountains snowpack. A good section around the early part, or headwaters, of the Arkansas River have been designated as a Colorado State Park called Arkansas Headwaters State Park.
Conveniently, because I purchased a year-pass for Lory State Park near Fort Collins, we're able to get in for free at all 42 Colorado State Parks. So on our drive back from a road trip during Week 200, we stopped at a section of the river that is one of the most popular river boating (whitewater rafting, etc.) areas in the United States - and great for trout fishing, as well. I really didn't expect it to be that beautiful. Nor did I plan on shooting a weekly video about this place, so I didn't even take the tripod out of the car - hence some shaky footage and a few still photos, with which I replaced the same images as video at the very last minute before uploading.
We were so taken by how gorgeous this area was that we spent most of the afternoon hiking around and then basking in the sun on the top of a small peak just looking around at the wonderful vista. A classic Happy Place.
We had parked the car at the Hecla camp grounds and, before we left, picked our two favorite spots with views of the river to pitch our tent as soon as it gets warm. I can't wait! And I'm pretty sure I'll show you a video of what this place looks like in the summer in a few months...
Also, I want to figure out which train line runs along the river here. I suspect it's the Royal Gorge Route - but it might just be regular Amtrak line - if it's even a track for people transportation. One of my top priorities this spring/summer is to get on one of the Rocky Mountains trains and share a video of that trip with you!
The lovely song in this video is the instrumental version of Chainsaw by Josh Woodward, who makes hundreds of his songs available through a Creative Commons license. How awesome is that?

Uncanny things are thought to happen at night in desolate places
The terms alien abduction or abduction phenomenon describe subjectively real memories of being taken secretly against one's will by apparently nonhuman entities and subjected to complex physical and psychological procedures.[1] People claiming to have been abducted are usually called abductees or experiencers.
Due to a paucity of objective physical evidence, most scientists and mental health professionals dismiss the phenomenon as deception, suggestibility (fantasy-proneness, hypnotizability, false memory syndrome), personality, sleep paralysis, psychopathology, psychodynamics [and] environmental factors.[2] However, the late Prof. John E. Mack, a respected Harvard University psychiatrist, devoted a substantial amount of time to investigating such cases and eventually concluded that the only phenomenon in psychiatry that adequately explained the patients' symptoms in several of the most compelling cases was posttraumatic stress disorder.[dubious -- discuss] As he noted at the time, this would imply that the patient genuinely believed that the remembered frightening incident had really occurred.[citation needed]
Skeptic Robert Sheaffer sees similarity between the aliens depicted in early science fiction films, in particular, Invaders From Mars, and some of those reported to have actually abducted people.[3]
Typical claims involve being subjected to a forced medical examination that emphasizes their reproductive system.[4] Abductees sometimes claim to have been warned against environmental abuse and the dangers of nuclear weapons.[5] While many of these claimed encounters are described as terrifying, some have been viewed as pleasurable or transformative.
The first alien abduction claim to be widely publicized was the Betty and Barney Hill abduction in 1961.[6] Reports of the abduction phenomenon have been made around the world, but are most common in English speaking countries, especially the United States.[3] The contents of the abduction narrative often seem to vary with the home culture of the alleged abductee.[3]
Alien abductions have been the subject of conspiracy theories and science fiction storylines (notably The X-Files) that have speculated on stealth technology required if the phenomenon were real, the motivations for secrecy, and that alien implants could be a possible form of physical evidence. Mainstream scientists reject claims that the phenomenon literally occurs as reported. However, there is little doubt that many apparently stable persons who report alien abductions believe their experiences were real.[8] As reported in the Harvard University Gazette in 1992, Dr. John E. Mack investigated over 800 claimed abductees and spent countless therapeutic hours with these individuals only to find that what struck him was the 'ordinariness' of the population, including a restaurant owner, several secretaries, a prison guard, college students, a university administrator, and several homemakers ... 'The majority of abductees do not appear to be deluded, confabulating, lying, self-dramatizing, or suffering from a clear mental illness,' he maintained.[9] While psychopathology is indicated in some isolated alien abduction cases, Stuart Appelle et al. confirmed, assessment by both clinical examination and standardized tests has shown that, as a group, abduction experients are not different from the general population in term of psychopathology prevalence.[10] Other experts who have argued that abductees' mental health is no better or worse than average include psychologists John Wilson and Rima Laibow, and psychotherapist David Gotlib.[11]
Some abduction reports are quite detailed. An entire subculture has developed around the subject, with support groups and a detailed mythos explaining the reasons for abductions: The various aliens (Greys, Reptilians, Nordics and so on) are said to have specific roles, origins, and motivations. Abduction claimants do not always attempt to explain the phenomenon, but some take independent research interest in it themselves and explain the lack of greater awareness of alien abduction as the result of either extraterrestrial or governmental interest in cover-up.
