MUIR WOODS NATIONAL MONUMENT - CALIFORNIA
Muir Woods National Monument Video Tour Around Redwoods Reserve Only Few Miles From San Francisco.
Muir Woods National monument. Walk among the giants.
Muir woods National Monument is a popular destination among tourist coming to visit San Francisco. It located north of Golden Gate Bridge and allows to combine these two attractions in one tour.
The only downside of Muir Woods is limited parking and, to be honest, it is a problem. There are many parking lots but they all packed by the middle of the day and you would have to walk long distance to the entrance. This is why the best way to visit the place is on a tour bus. This is exactly what we did.
Our first impression was that this park really represents the typical redwood forest but unlike many other near-by parks it is more developed meaning main trail is wheelchair accessible, paved and has plenty interpretive signs on the way.
The landscape is picturesque and you will have many opportunities for great pictures. The light coming from above the tall canopy in combination with some mist creates three dimensional feeling of an enchanted forest. Large trunks of the redwood trees dwarf the people nearby changing scale of things and your perspective.
From scientific point of view these huge trees contribute significantly to utilization of the greenhouse gas, CO2, and turn massive amount of it into biomass and oxygen on every day.
According to official information the average age of the trees here is six to eight hundred years. The oldest one is over thousand years old.
Our walk started on a trail long a creek then we crossed the creek using one of several bridges and took narrow pass on the slope of the hill to see the place from above.
People come here to enjoy Nature from all over the word. John Muir, who was a naturalist and ecological activist and really deserved to have his name on the title of this national monument, once wrote:
Everybody needs beauty as well as bread,
places to play in and pray in,
where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.
This national monument is clean and well-maintained, although natural features are quite typical and can be observed in many other less crowded parks in the Bay Area. If you decided to check this place out, remember, that the easier way to visit the Muir woods would be a bus, ridesharing, or even taxi and keep in mind that there is no WiFi or cell service over there.
Thanks for watching, leave your comments and have a great time exploring California!

Muir Woods, San Francisco - Travel VLOG
We went to Muir Woods, 15 minutes away from San Francisco, California, back in August 2015. It was a beautiful place and we wanted to show you the magnificent coastal redwoods (also known as California redwoods). Films such as The Return of the Jedi or Rise of the Planet of the Apes were filmed here.

Top 7 Attractions in San Francisco
Top 7 Attractions in San Francisco
Alcatraz
This first site takes you out of the city itself and onto the island of Alcatraz, which sits 1.5 miles from the city itself. Here stands one of the nation’s most notorious prisons — no prisoner has ever been known to successfully escape from its confines. It’s out of business now and has been since Bobby Kennedy closed its doors in 1963, but you’ll get to feel all of the creepy vibes on a tour of the place. Be sure to book it in advance as slots fill quickly.
Twin Peaks
Taking in scenic views is a big part of visiting San Francisco, and there’s perhaps no better place to do so than the Twin Peaks. These two mounds reach over 900 feet into the sky, making them the perfect vantage point to peep the city skyline, the bay and, of course, the bridges. Most visitors suggest taking on the Twin Peaks on foot so that you can really enjoy the scenery and the panoramic views.
The Castro
The Castro is the heart of San Francisco’s gay community, one that has been loud and proud for longer than most in the U.S. All you have to do is spend an afternoon exploring this area to see why. There’s a GLBT history walk of fame. You can check out Harvey Milk’s old house, which is now an action center for the Human Rights Campaign. And, if you’re around in June, don’t miss the month-long pride celebration that rocks the Castro every year. As you do, remember that The Castro has worn the same colors for more than 50 years. That’s pretty incredible, right?
Golden Gate Park
A writer for Time magazine called the Golden Gate Park the coolest in the U.S., and for good reason: you could spend an entire day within its sprawling, lush confines and not run out of things to do. Most guests start at the Conservatory of Flowers, a gorgeous Victorian greenhouse that’s home to more than 2,000 plant species. If you have kids, they will love the carousel and the Steinhart Aquarium. Otherwise, everyone can agree on a scenic hike or picnic, which you can stage just about anywhere in this picturesque park.
Golden Gate Bridge
You can see the Golden Gate Bridge one of two ways: by land or by water. We suggest the latter in order to truly take in and appreciate the incredible piece of engineering that remains a symbol of the city, as well as the state of California. Many cruise companies will shuttle you out into the bay for panoramic views, as well as beneath the bridge so that you can peep at its inner-workings. For a more complete tour of the bridge, try driving, biking or walking across.
Cable Cars
After the Golden Gate Bridge, the second-most iconic image of San Francisco has to be its cable cars. Perhaps that’s because they haven’t changed much since 1873, as evidenced by their old-school aesthetic and hand-operated brakes. You can hitch a ride up Nob Hill, a more-than-300-foot incline that will give you a crash course in how to balance on public transportation.
Muir Woods
A quick drive outside of San Francisco proper will bring you the incredible — and lofty — Muir Woods. Here, you’ll be able to see the state’s iconic redwood trees, which can scrape the sky at an astounding 380 feet in height. You can access Muir Woods in about 30 minutes by car, but you can also catch a bus from the city if you don’t have a set of wheels at your service.

Muir Woods National Monument - Park Travel Review
Muir Woods National Monument is about an hour from San Francisco, CA. It is an oasis of old-growth Redwood Forest that is a must see if you are in the area. On our visit, we got to hear a Ranger Talk about the history and ecology of this forest. It was really interesting and we appreciate the ranger giving us permission to use her word in our video. We also explored the paved paths in the park including Cathedral Grove. Lori and I got off the paved trails too. We hiked the Hilltop Trail. We were happy to get a couple of miles in for the #Hike365Challenge in this beautiful location.

Muir Woods, Coast Redwood Forest | San Francisco [67]
Went to Muir Woods National Monument in California. 12 miles north of San Francisco, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation area, you can see giant old growth coast redwood trees. If the conditions are right, the trees look like they're smoking from the sunlight hitting them.
They changed the parking, so make sure you make a parking reservation. You can no longer park there without a permit. If the lot is full you can park at a farther lot and take the shuttle up. I paid $10 for parking at 9am and the lot was already beginning to fill up.

Cadari2 Visits! The Redwoods! Muir Woods! San Francisco, CA
Arriving in San Jose at the start of my week in California. You can catch the ferry to Sausalito at Pier 41 at the Fisherman's Wharf. Round trip was $25 and runs about every twenty minutes.
There is then a bus you can take from Sausalito to Muir Woods. The service is frequent. It is only about three dollars, but the ticket must be reserved on the national park website. The reservation up includes a ride down at any time that works for you.
The redwoods there were beautiful and it was a nice place to hike. Lots of people, though. Definitely do one or more of the side hikes to enjoy the area more.

Muir Woods: My Last Day in San Francisco
On my last day in San Francisco, I headed out to Muir Woods to see the redwood trees. It was something that I had always wanted to do, and was even more beautiful than I could have imagined. Later in the evening, I did some last exploring and walking about the city before heading to catch my flight to New York.

During a trip to San Francisco, we took a tour bus to visit Muir Woods. It only lasted an hour, and I wasn't able to capture much, but it gives you a good idea! I still managed to be late for the bus.
