Basílica de La Macarena e Murallas en Sevilla - Spain 4K Travel Channel
On our way from Plaza de Espana to the hotel in the old town, we pass the university, the Glorieta de San Diego and an exhibition pavilion, built for the Ibero-American Exhibition in 1929. After almost 3 weeks in Spain we urgently need a laundromat. We ask at the reception and one refers us to the department store El Corte Ingles, which is not too far away. Grabbing the laundry in a wheeled suitcase and go. We cross the Espacio Metropol Parasol and take Calle Laranna and Calle Martin Villa to Placa del Duque de la Victoria. We pass the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University, which is housed in a magnificent castle-like building. We have no luck. In the basement of El Corte Ingles is a cleaning but no laundromat. However we rely on the friendly staff who told us that we will find one in the Calle Goles.
We continue our way, have a look at the the Velazquez Monument and the Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla at Plaza del Museo.
At the Plaza de Armas with its huge halls for the Mercado and the Centro Commercial we begin to ask residents to the laundromat. Nobody knows one! A postwoman approached us. She ought to know the neighborhood, but she also didn't know one.
Frustrated we made the way back our hotel. In the Calle Alfonso XII we see a business travel agency and we still need tickets for the Alhambra in Granada. We read on the Internet that it is hard to get some and one should book early in advance. We had already tried, but in vain. Everything seems to be sold out for our travel dates!
Here we were lucky! We actually got two tickets for € 50 each. That seems expensive, but better safe than sorry. In Granada it should prove to be an error (see in a later report on Granada).
Then we asked if someone knows a laundromat in the city. In fact, a young man found one on the internet!
We took a taxi and drove to the indicated address and we were successful. It was a good one! (Washing 30 min €4,- , drying 20 min € 2,-)
In the Ronda de Capuchinos, on the ground floor next to a gas station of La Ronda Estacion de Servicios SA, is the laundromat with industrial washing machines and dryers. It is probably the only laundromat in Seville!
Since it would last about 1 hour we have time to take a walk.

Auf dem Weg von der Plaza de Espana zum Hotel in der Altstadt passieren wir die Universität, die Glorieta de San Diego und einen Ausstellungspavillon der für die Iberoamerikanischen Ausstellung im Jahre 1929 erbaut wurden. Nach fast 3 Wochen in Spanien brauchen wir dringend einen Waschsalon. Wir erkundigen uns im Hotel und man verweist uns auf das Kaufhaus El Corte Ingles, das nicht allzu weit entfernt liegt. Wir packen die Wäsche in einen Rollenkoffer und gehen los. Wir überqueren den Espacio Metropol Paraso und gehen die Calle Laranna und die Calle Martin Villa entlang bis zum Placa del Duque de la Victoria. Dabei passieren wir die Fakultät für schöne Künste der Universität, die in einem prächtigen burgähnlichen Gebäude untergebracht ist. Wir haben kein Glück. Im Untergeschoss des El Corte Ingles gibt es zwar eine Reinigung, aber keinen Waschsalon. Wir vertrauen aber einer freundlichen Angestellten, die uns erzählt in der Calle Goles gibt es einen Waschsalon.
Wir ziehen wieder los, betrachten an der Plaza del Museo das Velazques Denkmal und das Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla.
Bei der Plaza de Armas mit ihren riesigen Hallen für den Mercado und das Centro Commercial beginnen wir Anwohner nach dem Waschsalon zu fragen. Niemand kennt einen! Dann kommt uns eine Postbotin entgegen. Sie sollte doch das Viertel kennen, doch auch sie musste passen.
Frustriert machten wir uns auch den Rückweg zum Hotel. In der Calle Alfonso XII sehen wir das Geschäft einer Reiseagentur. Wir brauchen noch Tickets für die Alhambra in Granada. Im Internet ist zu lesen es sein schwer welche zu bekommen und man solle frühzeitig im Netz buchen. Das hatten wir auch schon versucht, aber vergeblich. Alles belegt!
Hier hatten wir Glück! Wir bekamen tatsächlich zwei Tickets für jeweils €50.-. Das erschien uns zwar teuer, aber sicher ist sicher. In Granada sollte sich das als Fehler herausstellen (siehe in späterem Bericht über Granada).
Dann fragten wir ob man hier nicht einen Waschsalon kenne. Tatsächlich wurde ein junger Mann im Internet fündig!
Wir nehmen ein Taxi und fuhren zu der angegeben Adresse und tatsächlich: wurden wir fündig, es war zudem noch ein guter! (Waschen 30 min € 4, -, Trocknen 20 min € 2, -)
In der Ronda de Capuchinos liegt im Erdgeschoss neben einer Tankstelle der La Ronda Estacion de Servicios SA ein Waschsalon mit industriellen Waschmaschinen und Trocknern. Vermutlich ist es der einzige Waschsalon in Sevilla!
Da es ca. 1 Stunde dauern sollte nutzen wir die Zeit für einen Spaziergang.

Our first way in the morning leads us to the cathedral of Seville. We have already heard a lot of this building, but as we stand in front of it, we are astonished by the dimensions. To get a sense of this building we first walk around it. In addition to the dimensions, the many filigree ornaments catch the eye.
The Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil the third-largest churches in the world. It is 115 m long, 43 m wide and and in the nave 42 m high.
Inside, the people lose themselves in this monumental building. If you consider that this Gothic cathedral was built from 1401 to 1519 asks oneself involuntarily, how this was possible for people with their modest technical aids.
After a first impression, we go to the tomb of Christopher Columbus, which is carried by four men. It actually contains the remains of the discoverer of America.
The Capital Mayor with the Retablo, a framed altarpiece with a gigantic show wall carved from wood in the background, impresses us most. It is the largest retable in the world, 23 m high and 20 m wide. The altar driven of silver and the 45 gold-painted relief images in the background make us speechless.
After leaving the cathedral we stand in front of the 104.5 meter high Giralda, the bell tower of the cathedral. It is the symbol of Seville.
The former Moorish minaret is the remainder of the 1184-built mosque. At the time of construction it was the third highest building in the world. Inside one could reach the height of 70 m even on horseback.
In 1928 the cathedral of Seville was classified as a historical monument and since 1987 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After the visit of the cathedral we are convinced that we have seen one of the most excellent cultural monuments of mankind.

Am Morgen führt uns der erste Weg zur Kathedrale von Sevilla. Wir haben schon eine Menge von diesem Bauwerk gehört, doch als wir davor stehen erstaunen uns die Dimensionen dennoch. Um ein Gefühl für diese Gebäude zu bekommen umrunden wir es erst einmal.
Neben den Abmessungen springen uns die vielen filigranen Verzierungen ins Auge.
Die Kathedrale von Sevilla ist die größte gotische Kathedrale der Welt und nach dem Petersdom in Rom und der Basilika von Aparecida in Brasilien die drittgrößte Kirche der Welt. Sie ist 115 m lang, 43 m breit und im Mittelschiff 42 m hoch.
Im Inneren verlieren sich die Menschen in diesem gewaltigen Gebäude. Wenn man bedenkt, dass diese gotische Kathedrale bereits von 1401 bis 1519 errichtet wurde fragt man sich unwillkürlich, wie dies den Menschen mit ihren bescheidenen technischen Hilfsmittel möglich war.
Nachdem wir einen ersten Eindruck aufgenommen haben, besuchen wir den Sarkophag von Christoph Kolumbus, der von vier Männern getragen wird. Er beinhaltet tatsächlich die Überreste des “Entdeckers” von Amerika.
Am meisten beeindruckt aber die Capilla Mayor mit dem Retablo, einem Altar mit einer riesigen aus Holz geschnitzten Schauwand im Hintergrund. Er ist das größte Altarretabel der Welt, 23 m hoch und 20 m breit. Der aus Silber getriebene Altar und die 45 vergoldeten Reliefbilder im Hintergrund machen uns sprachlos.
Als wir wieder das Freie betreten stehen wir vor dem 104,5 m hohen Giralda, dem Glockenturm der Kathedrale. Es ist das Wahrzeichen Sevillas.
Das ehemalige maurische Minarett ist der Rest der 1184 erbauten Moschee. Es war zur Bauzeit das dritt höchste Bauwerk der Welt. Es kann bis auf die Höhe von 70 m mit dem Pferd beritten werden.
Seit 1928 steht die Kathedrale von Sevilla unter Denkmalschutz und ist seit 1987 UNESCO Weltkulturerbe.
Nach dem Besuch der Kathedrale sind wir uns sicher eines der großartigsten Kulturdenkmäler der Menschheit gesehen zu haben.

We walk along the banks of the Guadalquivir while spring shows its best side. From afar we admire the Puente del Alamillo, the first cable-stayed bridge in the world without rear anchoring. It was designed for the Expo 1992. Already from afar our view goes towards the Torre del Oro.
It is uncertain how the Torre del Oro got its name. Originally it had a bright band of tiles in the upper part which shone like gold in the sun. On the other hand, in the 16th century, the Spanish treasure fleet used the tower as a temporary storage for the gold and silver, that has been disembarked from overseas.
The Torre del Oro was built at the beginning of the 13th century by the governor of the Almohad dynasty, residing in Marrakesh. It was part of the fastening systems but not part of the city wall. Together with the Torre de la Fortaleza it served as anchor for an iron chain in order to lock up the access to the port. However this chain was broken through by Ramón de Bonifaz and allowed Ferdinand III to take over Seville in 1248.
Today the tower houses the Museo Naval de Sevilla, with ship models, pictures, documents and nautical instruments.
From a platform at the top of the building you have a wonderful view of Seville and the Guadalquivir River.
Plaza de Toros Real Maestranza de Caballería is the former bullring and today a museum. After the one in Madrid, it is the second largest bullring in Spain. Build up like an oval amphitheater, the top ranks are surrounded by ornate arcades. The dainty form of the columns lend the arena a certain lightness.
The museum commemorates famous Mataderos. On display are magnificent costumes and weapons, as well as their training facilities. Of course, famous bulls are honored. The dissected bull heads are hanging on the wall. During the tour we visit a chapel, where the Mataderos could speak a prayer before the fight, as well as the stables.
On the way back to the city we pass a picture exhibition, installed on an open space. It shows works by Sebastião Salgado, a Brazilian sociocritical photographer and photojournalist.

Der Frühling zeigt sich von seiner besten Seite und wir wandern am Ufer des Guadalquivir entlang. Von der Ferne bewundern wir die Puente del Alamillo, die erste Schrägseilbrücke der Welt ohne Rückverankerung. Sie wurde für die Expo 1992 entworfen.
Schon aus der Ferne fällt unser Blick auf den Torre del Oro.
Woher der Torre del Oro seinen Namen hat, ist nicht ganz klar. Ursprünglich hatte er ein helles Band von Fliesen im oberen Bereich, das in der Sonne golden glänzte. Andererseits wurde er im 16.Jahrhundert von der Silberflotte als Tresor benutzt, um das Gold und Silber zwischenzulagern, welches aus Übersee angelandet wurde.
Der Turm wurde Anfang des 13. Jahrhunderts vom Gouverneur der in Marrakesch residierenden Almohaden erbaut. Er war Teil der Befestigungsanlagen, aber nicht Teil der Stadtmauer. Er diente, zusammen mit dem Torre de la Fortaleza, als Anker für eine eiserne Kette, mit der man den Zugang zum Hafen abriegeln konnte. Dennoch wurde sie von Ramón de Bonifaz durchbrochen und ermöglichte damit Ferdinand III, Sevilla im Jahre 1248 einzunehmen.
Im Inneren befindet sich heute das Museo Naval de Sevilla, mit Schiffsmodellen, Bilder, Dokumenten und nautischen Instrumenten.

Plaza de Toros Real Maestranza de Caballería ist eine ehemalige Stierkampfarena und heute eine Museum. Es war, nach Madrid, die zweitgrößte Stierkampfarena Spaniens. Aufgebaut wie ein ovales Amphitheater werden die obersten Ränge von kunstvoll gestalteten Arkaden umgeben. Die zierliche Form der Säulen verleiht der Arena eine gewisse Leichtigkeit.
Im Museum wird berühmter Mataderos gedacht. Gezeigt werden prunkvolle Kleidungen und Waffen, aber auch ihre Trainingsmöglichkeiten. Natürlich werden auch berühmte Stiere „geehrt“. Ihre Köpfe wurde präpariert und an der Wand aufgehangen. Zum Rundgang gehört eine Kapelle, in der die Mataderos vor dem Kampf noch ein Gebet sprechen konnten, sowie die Stallungen.
Auf dem Weg zurück in die Stadt können wir noch eine Bilderausstellung von Sebastiao Salgado, einem brasilianischen sozialkritischen Fotografen und Fotoreporter, bewundern, welche auf einer Freifläche installiert worden ist.

Puertas de la ciudad de Sevilla 1ª parte. 15 diciembre 2013
La mañana del domingo 15 de diciembre 2013 la dedicamos los Amigos Cultareo a recorrer de mano de la historiadora Sara Ocaña, Las Puertas de la Ciudad de Sevilla (1ª parte). Sin duda fue una jornada muy interesante en la que todos los que tuvimos la suerte de asistir aprendimos mucho sobre la morfología de la ciudad y su crecimiento a lo largo del tiempo.
Aprendimos, entre otras cosas, que la ciudad ha tenido varias murallas defensivas al tratarse de una población ubicada en un llano, expuesta a los ataques. Romanos y árabes rodearon la ciudad en varias ocasiones con murallas, que por devastación o por mejoras fueron demolidas en varias ocasiones. Incluso había otras murallas dentro del recinto amurallado, como las del Alcázar o las del barrio de la judería.
Puertas, postigos, torres aún en pie, lienzos de muralla en varias ubicaciones, el porqué de los nombres de las puertas o postigos en un recorrido que en esta primera parte en la que se estructura esta visita recorrimos desde el Paseo Catalina de Ribera con las murallas del Alcázar de fondo; Jardines de Murillo, donde pudimos contemplar varias torres de la muralla islámica y retos de ésta conteniendo las conducciones de agua con destino al Alcázar y para abastecimiento de la propia ciudad; el Callejón del Agua; la típica calle Judería del Barrio de Santa Cruz, en la que podemos ver al fondo un resto de muralla y hasta una torre bien conservada; murallas y torres del Alcázar por la Plaza del Triunfo; una torre entre los actuales edificios de la calle Santo Tomás; la Puerta de San Fernando que ahora no existe en donde hoy está el Restaurante Oriza; restos de muralla en blanco en la Puerta de Jerez, donde pasa desapercibida una placa que nos recuerda la ubicación de la puerta; restos de muralla en las calles San Gregorio, Santander --junto a la Torre de la Plata- y Tomás de Ibarra en el interior de un local comercial de alquiler de bicicletas; el conocido Postigo del Aceite y varios metros de muralla en el Plaza del Cabildo, para terminar el recorrido en la confluencia de las calles Arfe, Castelar y García de Vinuesa, donde un azulejo nos recuerda dónde estaba la Puerta del Arenal.
Tras más de dos horas de recorrido y copiosas explicaciones, parte de los participantes en esta actividad nos desplazamos a la veterana Bodega Salazar para degustar unos vinos y tapas de cuidada cocina.

Sevilla, la ciudad de las maravillas
Quien no ha visto Sevilla no ha visto maravilla. Con estos versos se puede resumir la belleza de la capital andaluza, ciudad asentada a orillas del viejo río Betis, que los árabes llamaron Guadalquivir. El aroma de los naranjos y el azahar inunda la urbe, haciendo de ello una seña de identidad que embriaga al viajero.
Los orígenes de Sevilla se remontan al primer milenio antes de Cristo. Su fundación se debe a los tartesios, pero será Julio César quien la eleve al rango de colonia. De época romana han quedado escasos restos, destacando los monolitos que se conservan en la calle Mármoles, partes de un templo dedicado a Hércules. También se pueden apreciar las ruinas de un viejo acueducto, que trasladaba agua a Sevilla desde Caños de Carmona. Hoy en pie apenas quedan algunos de los casi 400 arcos con que contaba.
En el año 712 es ocupada por Musa ibn Nusayr, pasando a denominarse Ishbaliya. Con la dominación árabe comienza una etapa de esplendor para Sevilla, conociendo un gran auge económico y cultural, especialmente cuando se convierte en capital de al-Andalus, ya en el siglo XII. No en balde, los símbolos más identificativos de la urbe aparecen en estos momentos. La Torre del Oro formaba parte del sistema de defensa de la ciudad. Levantada en 1120, tiene planta dodecagonal y se corona con almenas. Los más de seis kilómetros de murallas protegían las trescientas hectáreas que constituían la ciudad, espacio en el que el Alcázar ocupaba el lugar más importante. Esta residencia real sufrirá diversas modificaciones a lo largo de su historia, para configurar uno de los palacios más espectaculares, en los que se mezclan diferentes estilos que lo hacen, si cabe, más atractivo.
Giralda en prisma puro de Sevilla. De esta manera definió Gerardo Diego el elemento más representativo de la ciudad. La Giralda es el alminar de la antigua mezquita. El gran cuerpo se levanta en ladrillo, presentando balcones y ventanas en los cuatro frentes. El arquitecto Hernán Ruiz II llevó a cabo la renovación de la torre entre 1558 y 1568, hasta alcanzar los 93 metros de altura.
El 23 de noviembre de 1248 Fernando III se adueña de Sevilla tras un prolongado sitio. La ciudad se empieza a salpicar de nuevas fundaciones eclesiásticas que ocupan, en su mayor parte, las antiguas mezquitas musulmanas. En estas nuevas iglesias se funden los estilos gótico y mudéjar para configurar unos edificios de sin par belleza.
La principal construcción cristiana será la Catedral. De época almohade se conservó el Patio de los Naranjos, el antiguo shan donde los musulmanes hacían sus abluciones antes de iniciar la oración. En la edificación de la nueva seo participaron los mejores arquitectos de su tiempo, resultando un templo de colosales dimensiones, la mayor catedral gótica del mundo y el tercer templo de la cristiandad... --
