Murray-Sunset National Park is approximately 550kms Northwest from Melbourne, near the town of Mildura. It is Victoria's largest national park with vast expanses of Mallee forest.
During my 2015 solo trip to explore Murray Sunset I visit Pink lakes, Mt Jess, Mt Crozier, Underbool Track camping area, Sunset Track, Rock Holes, Pheenys Track camping area, the Shearers Quarters and Miners Track.

Murray Sunset National Park - August 2018
We venture to the north-west corner of Victoria to the Murray Sunset National Park. The park is managed by Parks Victoria and is the second largest national park in Victoria. Situated between Ouyen and Mildura and the South Australian border. It is about 550kms from Melbourne and 400kms from Adelaide.

We ventured north from Kaniva up the Nhill-Murrayville Rd which cuts through the Big Desert State Forest which was an experience on its own. Starting at the beautiful Lake Crosbie, we headed through the middle of the park heading west via Mopoke Hut to the Shearer's Quarters before heading back east to Rocket Lake, all the while taking in the breathtaking views this semi-arid region has to offer.
Driving through the park is relatively easy for a well setup 4wd. We did drop our tyre pressures to about 25psi on both the car and camper trailer but the terrain was pretty easy driving. Weather wise we were pretty lucky and had only the odd spit of rain. Some of the tracks would get quite challenging if there was a decent downpour. Apart from Lake Crosbie, we had the run of the campgrounds (and tracks for that matter) to ourselves. It was good weather during the day but cold at night as the cloud disappeared and the amazing star show came out at night.

Murray Sunset National Park | 4 X 4 Overland Expedition | PT 1
G'day Troop. This week myself and Mrs Moosey head off into the North West Corner of Victoria and explore the Murray Sunset National Park. Our trip starts with us hitting Lake Hardy in the South East and then following Pink Lakes Road North to Lake Cosbie. Over the course of seven days we visit every corner of this wonderful Outback park covering sandy tracks and dunes to Mount Crozier, Mopoke Hut, all the Pink Lakes and the Shearers Quarters in the North West Exit. A truly awesome Aussie Outback adventure, plenty of camp cooking on the fire, awesome sunsets and rises and fun times. So come along and as always.... Enjoy!.

On Saturday 16th November, 2013, Paul VK5PAS, & his wife Marija, activated the Wyperfeld National Park in north western Victoria, as part of the Keith Roget Memorial National Parks Award (KRMNPA) activation weekend.
A total of 26 QSO's were made on 40m SSB.
Equipment used was a Yaesu FT-817nd, 5 watts, & a home brew 40m dipole, supported on a 7m squid pole.

Murray Sunset Sand Weekend with Cai
Weekend in the sand in Murray Sunset National Park. First night we camped near Rocket Lake, second night we camped in the Wyperfield National Park. We covered Pheenys Track, Rocket Lake Track, Midnight Tank Track, Heinscke Track, Nowingi Track, Mopoke Track, Honeymoon Hut Track, and Crozier Track.

Murray Sunset Pink Lakes
Murray-Sunset National Park is in northwest Victoria, between Ouyen and Mildura and the South Australian border. It is about 550kms from Melbourne and 400kms from Adelaide.
Bit of unsealed road to get to the lake. We drove around and found a spot to get out and have a closer look. The surface was really dry and crunchy to walk on. The heat bouncing back was quite extreme.

We continue with part three of the series by going on a 4x4 sandy drive to Mount Crozier, the views are just amazing, bit of a slog up the hills but great fun. I close out day two with a nice chicken and mango curry, cooked on the fire with flat bread and baby potatoes as we watch the sun set over the Pink Lakes.

Lake Becking Campground - Murray Sunset NP - Victoria
A long drive in on gravel track leads you around Lake Crosbie which has a large camping area. Lake Becking has room for a few groups but it is small. There was water in the butt, clean drop loo, two tables and two firepits. Nice quiet secluded spot.
