Stalin museum to focus on his atrocities

Because (the former) museum about Stalin was a museum basically that was created to glorify his deeds and make him appear in a way that is not consistent with the history. In Georgia, in free country, in democratic Georgia, it is impossible to have a museum like that, museum glorifying the Soviet dictator.

My family is just one of (m) millions of families that were negatively affected by Stalin of course and Soviet Union, but the importance of today is extraordinary because it has been so many decades coming that the Stalin period in Georgian history and world history that they really need to be seen as occupiers as a regime that put down and murdered many, many people and caused a lot of trouble. And it is the perfect timing now I guess in 2012, because Stalin came from Georgia and Georgia will be the first place in the world, as far as I understand, where this is going to happen, where the museum is going to be changed and it will be the museum about a museum and the entire occupation.

STORYLINE
A museum that has honoured Josef Stalin in Georgia since 1937 is being remodelled to exhibit the atrocities that were committed during the Soviet dictator's rule.
Georgian Culture Minister Nika Rurua said Monday that his nation, which became independent in 1991, can no longer host a museum glorifying the Soviet dictator.
Stalin was born Josef Dzhugashvili in the central Georgian town of Gori in 1879, and the museum opened here in 1937, at the height of purges that were later dubbed the Great Terror.
The gigantic museum includes the house where Stalin was born and some 47-thousand exhibits, including his personal belongings and death masks.
It remained open despite the de-Stalinisation campaign and denunciation of his personality cult declared by Stalin's successor Nikita Khrushchev in 1956.
But in post-Soviet Georgia, whose pro-Western government has been actively removing traces of Soviet past, the museum seemed like an anachronism that mostly attracted foreign tourists and a few die-hard Communists.
Stalin, who died in 1953, remains a divisive issue in the former Soviet Union.
He is still revered by many who say he led the Soviet Union to victory in World War II and turned a struggling nation into a superpower.
Nicole Jordania, the granddaughter of Georgia's first President Noe Jordania, is one of many whose family history was dramatically changed by the Soviet occupation.
Noe Jordania was forced to flee Georgia in 1921 after the Soviet Red army occupied Georgia.
Today his granddaughter, Nicole, lives in Tbilisi with her five year old son Nikoloz.
My family is just one of (m) millions of families that were negatively affected by Stalin of course and Soviet Union, but the importance of today is extraordinary because it has been so many decades coming, she said.

Russia/Irkuts (Babr:Symbol of Irkutsk-130th Quarter) Part 25
Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries.

A monument to the Babr is located exactly in the beginning of 130th District (a Siberian tiger on coat of arms of Irkutsk).
Bronze figure of a mythical beast Babr (Siberian Tiger), carrying the sable in his mouth The Personage of the Coat of Arms of Irkutsk. A monument symbol of Irkutsk. The Coat of Arms.
The coat of arms of Irkutsk features an old symbol of Dauria: a Siberian tiger with a sable in his mouth. When the coat of arms was devised in 1690, the animal was described as a tiger (Babr, a bookish word of Persian derivation) with a sable in his mouth.
This image had been used by the Yakutsk customs office from about 1642. It has its origin in a seal of the Siberia Khanate representing a sable and showcasing the fact that Siberia (or rather Yugra) was the main source of sable fur throughout the Middle Ages. (Actually, the English word sable is derived from the Russian sobol).
By the mid-19th century, the word babr had fallen out of common usage, but it was still recorded in the Armorial of the Russian Empire.
Furthermore, the tigers became extinct in this part of Siberia. In the 1870s, a high-placed French heraldist with a limited command of Russian assumed that Babr was a misspelling of bobr, the Russian word for beaver, and changed the wording accordingly.
This modification engendered a long dispute between the local authorities, who were so confused by the revised description that they started to depict the Babr as a fabulous animal, half-tiger and half-beaver.The Soviets abolished the image altogether, but it was restored following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Coats of arms came into general use by feudal lords and knights in battle in the 12th Century. By the 13th Century arms had spread beyond their initial battlefield use to become a kind of flag or logo for families in the higher social classes of Europe, inherited from one generation to the next.
Exactly who had a right to use arms, by law or social convention, varied to some degree between countries. In the German-speaking region both the aristocracy and burghers (non-noble free citizens) used arms, while in most of the rest of Europe they were limited to the aristocracy.
The use of arms spread to Church clergy, and to towns as civic identifiers, and to royally-chartered organizations such as universities and trading companies. Flags developed from coats of arms, and the arts of vexillology and heraldry are closely related. The coats of arms granted to commercial companies are a major source of the modern logo.
130th District:
On the territory of what is now the 130th District Irkutsk people began to build houses in the early XVIII century. At that time, the land was out of Irkutsk and developed by rural type. All the buildings were made of wood, the area remained unimproved, so by the beginning of the XX century houses among the stone buildings adjacent areas consist of small villages than monuments. In 2008, for the 350th anniversary of Irkutsk it was decided on the basis of the 130th District to create a special historical area. The project to create the Irkutsk Sloboda (the modern name of the quarter) was approved at the level of the regional government. In late March 2010 began the resettlement of residents of old and dilapidated houses, rapidly underwent restoration of cultural heritage quarter and construction lost monuments. In September 2011 - in the anniversary of Irkutsk - Sloboda took its first guests. At the site of the old barracks of poorly with sloppy brownfield sites in the center of the capital appeared Priangarye noteworthy quarter with neat cobblestone promenade, beautiful historic mansions, museums, restaurants and infrastructure.
Syria: Russia's Hermitage Museum director touts reconstruction in Palmyra
The director of the St. Petersburg's Hermitage museum, Mikhail Piotrovski, said that Russia was heavily involved in the reconstruction and repair of the ancient city of Palmyra during a trip a to the site, Friday.
Mikhail Piotrovsky said that Russia has already asked Syria to make a list of the most urgent needs for monument preservation and protection. Additionally Russia will participate in the UNESCO program aiming to fully repair or strengthen Palmyra's historic ruins after its occupation by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).
SOT, Mikhail Piotrovski, Director of The State Hermitage Museum (Russian): We hope that from now on this place will belong to music and poetry again and will not be a theatre of war any more. Regarding the issue about the preservation of monuments of Palmyra, I would like to point out that we [Russia] were the first who demanded the use of force for the protection of cultural heritage. This demand is connected with Dimitri Likhachev's Declaration of the Rights of Culture and it is a very important issue. This demand was satisfied. The monuments were liberated and these monuments are the symbols of today's events. As a museum with rich experience the Hermitage is ready to take part in all actions directed at Palmyra's reconstruction. We are ready to cooperate and we already have asked our Syrian colleagues to make a list of the most urgent needs we can help with. We also plan to participate in all efforts made by UNESCO. They have a huge program starting with a full terrain and archaeological analysis and monument damage valuation. Afterwards UNESCO is planning monument strengthening measures and we are going to take part in that as well.

Russia. City Petra the first St. Petersburg. City, rivers and canals.
St. Petersburg. The cultural capital of Russia, north of Venice, the brainchild of Peter - so often referred to St. Petersburg, the second largest city in our vast, with a population of 4.8 million people. Few cities in the world can boast so many attractions, the museum's collections, opera and drama theaters, mansions and palaces, parks and monuments. The literary and musical heritage of Peter no less outstanding - the number who worked enthusiastically on his misty shores of writers, poets and composers shakes even the boldest imagination. Along with Paris, Rome, Venice and St. Petersburg is included in the UNESCO list as a city in which the entire historic center was taken under patronage. Among other things, there are 42 churches denominations, including the amazing mosque with porcelain dome, Europe's only Buddhist monastery and one of the most beautiful chapels of Malta.

Matthew Light Speaks About Circassian Genocide And Issues With Russia
Matthew Light voices his concerns on television in relation to the Sochi 2014 Olympics. His concerns include the impact on the local population, corruption, human rights abuse and the Circassian issue.
The Sochi region, where the 2014 Winter Olympics will be held, was the center that the parliament of independent and free Circassia was gathering until 1864. After the Russian invasion it was not only the Circassians removed from their land but also all their cultural heritage and even their graves were completely destroyed. Today in the state museums of Sochi there is nothing displayed related to Circassians, the autochthonous people of that land for thousands of years. The real ancient history has now been re-written by Russia and hidden from the public.
The public does not know that millions of Circassians were massacred around and in the site of Sochi. Instead Russia laughs at the public for their lack of knowledge with the plight of Circassians. They hope that most of humanity forgets about this indigenous people. But people are beginning to speak out...
Russia's invasion resulted in millions of deaths and the forcible expulsion of those left alive. Currently over 90% of Circassians now live outside of their homeland. Russia has strict repatriation laws that will not allow any Circassian descendants back. This policy has only been enforced on Circassians but does not apply to other ethnic groups. Russia has silenced and oppressed any outspoken individuals who feel this is unfair. Journalists and citizens have been mysteriously assassinated with no formal investigation for speaking about this issue.

Moscow is the capital and most populous city of Russia, with 12.2 million residents within the city limits and 16.8 million within the urban area. Moscow has the status of a Russian federal city.
Moscow is a major political, economic, cultural, and scientific center of Russia and Eastern Europe, as well as the largest city entirely on the European continent. By broader definitions Moscow is among the world's largest cities, being the 14th largest metro area, the 18th largest agglomeration, the 15th largest urban area, and the 11th largest by population within city limits worldwide. According to Forbes 2013, Moscow has been ranked as the ninth most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the world's largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and is also one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world according to the MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index. Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, making it the world's most populated inland city. The city is served by a transit network, which includes four international airports, nine railway terminals, numerous trams, a monorail system and one of the deepest underground rapid transit systems in the world, the Moscow Metro, the fourth-largest in the world and largest outside of Asia in terms of passenger numbers, and the busiest in Europe. It is recognized as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich architecture of its 200 stations.
Moscow has acquired a number of epithets, most referring to its size and preeminent status within the nation: The Third Rome (Третий Рим), The Whitestone One (Белокаменная), The First Throne (Первопрестольная), The Forty Forties (Сорок Сороков), and The Hero City (город-герой). In old Russian the word Сорок (forty) also meant a church administrative district, which consisted of about forty churches. The demonym for a Moscow resident is москвич (moskvich) for male or москвичка (moskvichka) for female, rendered in English as Muscovite.
IZMAYLOVO KREMLIN | FAIRYLAND OF MOSCOW | FLEA MARKET | RUSSIA
On the second day of our Russia trip, we visited one of the most beautiful historical places of Moscow, the Izmaylovo Kremlin.
I couldnt belive my eyes when I entered the complex and was overwhelmed by seeing the beauty of that kremlin.
It is a fairytale like wooden cultural complex modeled after traditional Russian architecture.
There are lot of attractive wooden buildings inside the kremlin.
The buildings here are very colourful and photogenic.
It is located on the bank of Serebryano-Vinogradny pond.
There are Museum of Russian dresses and life, Museum of Bells, Museum of Russian Fairy-Tale,
Museum of History of Vodka and Museum of Russian Toy are gathered in one place.
Inside the kremlin, You have to buy tickets to get entry into the museums.
Next to the Kremlin there is a market where you can find diffrent type of Souvenirs like
all kinds of Matryoshka dolls, magnets, posters, musical boxes, paintings etc.
Unfortunately I could not visit the museum of Vodka..

In the past, the Russian dynasty integrated minority cultures and developed them into new cultures. As a result, it has created a world heritage and a unique art. I went to a place selling souvenirs of the Russian imperial family. All kinds of colorful jewelery attract attention. Easter eggs, especially made of jewels, are like the symbols of a royal family. I feel the sweat and effort of craftsmen in elaborately crafted jewelry. Separate shelves are made up of specially controlled porcelain. Russian imperial ceramics are precious items such as jewelry.

World cultural and natural heritage in Russia
The Union of Architects of Russia held a press conference dedicated to the results of the 37th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Cambodia from 17 to 27 June 2013. This year 19 new objects have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. 14 of them are artificial and five natural. UNESCO decided to preserve the Kremlin and Red Square, the Kizhi churchyard, the historic center of Yaroslavl and the Solovetsky Archipelago.
UNESCO is worried about preservation of natural sites of Russia -- Baikal, the virgin forests of Komi, the Golden Mountains of Altai, the volcanoes of Kamchatka and the West Caucasus.

Saint Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, with 5 million inhabitants in 2012, part of the Saint Petersburg agglomeration with a population of 6.2 million (2015). An important Russian port on the Baltic Sea, it has a status of a federal subject (a federal city).
Situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, it was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May [O.S. 16 May] 1703. On 1 September 1914, the name was changed from Saint Petersburg to Petrograd, on 26 January 1924 to Leningrad, and on 1 October 1991 back to its original name. During the periods 1713–1728 and 1732–1918, Saint Petersburg was the capital of Imperial Russia. In 1918, the central government bodies moved to Moscow, which is about 625 km (388 miles) to the south-east.
Saint Petersburg is one of the most modern cities of Russia, as well as its cultural capital. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Petersburg is home to the Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world. Many foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and businesses have offices in Saint Petersburg.
Saint Petersburg has a significant historical and cultural heritage.
The 18th and 19th-century architectural ensemble of the city and its environs is preserved in virtually unchanged form. For various reasons (including large-scale destruction during World War II and construction of modern buildings during the postwar period in the largest historical centers of Europe), Saint Petersburg has become a unique reserve of European architectural styles of the past three centuries. Saint Petersburg's loss of capital city status helped the city to retain many of its pre-revolutionary buildings, as modern architectural 'prestige projects' tended to be built in Moscow; this largely prevented the rise of mid-to-late-20th-century architecture and helped maintain the architectural appearance of the historic city center.
Saint Petersburg is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as an area with 36 historical architectural complexes and around 4000 outstanding individual monuments of architecture, history and culture. New tourist programs and sightseeing tours have been developed for those wishing to see Saint Petersburg's cultural heritage.
The city has 221 museums, 2000 libraries, more than 80 theaters, 100 concert organizations, 45 galleries and exhibition halls, 62 cinemas and around 80 other cultural establishments. Every year the city hosts around 100 festivals and various competitions of art and culture, including more than 50 international ones.
Despite the economic instability of the 1990s, not a single major theatre or museum was closed in Saint Petersburg; on the contrary many new ones opened, for example a private museum of puppets (opened in 1999) is the third museum of its kind in Russia, where collections of more than 2000 dolls are presented including 'The multinational Saint Petersburg' and 'Pushkin's Petersburg'. The museum world of Saint Petersburg is incredibly diverse. The city is not only home to the world-famous Hermitage Museum and the Russian Museum with its rich collection of Russian art, but also the palaces of Saint Petersburg and its suburbs, so-called small town museums and others like the museum of famous Russian writer Dostoyevsky; Museum of Musical Instruments, the museum of decorative arts and the museum of professional orientation.
The musical life of Saint Petersburg is rich and diverse, with the city now playing host to a number of annual carnivals.
Ballet performances occupy a special place in the cultural life of Saint Petersburg. The Petersburg School of Ballet is named as one of the best in the world. Traditions of the Russian classical school have been passed down from generation to generation among outstanding educators. The art of famous and prominent Saint Petersburg dancers like Rudolf Nureyev, Natalia Makarova, Mikhail Baryshnikov was, and is, admired throughout the world. Contemporary Petersburg ballet is made up not only of traditional Russian classical school, but also ballets by those like Boris Eifman, who expanded the scope of strict classical Russian ballet to almost unimaginable limits. Remaining faithful to the classical basis (he was a choreographer at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet), he combined classical ballet with the avant-garde style, and then, in turn, with acrobatics, rhythmic gymnastics, dramatic expressiveness, cinema, color, light, and finally with spoken word.
