An extraordinary new exhibition in Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum marks the first time the museum’s entire collection of Rembrandts is available to the public. Titled “All the Rembrandts,” the show commemorates the 350th anniversary of the Dutch master’s death and sheds new light on his personal life. Creation of oil painting to the times of Rembrandt. Oil paint is made by mixing pigments of colors with an oil medium. Different colors are made, or purchased premixed, before painting begins, but further shades of color are usually obtained by mixing small quantities together as the painting process is underway. Traditionally, artists mixed their own paints from raw pigments that they often ground themselves and medium.

Rembrandt House Museum Tour Amsterdam 1993 - Paintings and Drawings
Join me on tour of the Rembrandt House Museum in 1993, 20 yrs ago. I have captured a ton of Rembrandt's paintings and drawings. The live band is at the end. This was taken from an older VHC tape filmed from a high def screen and is shown here primarily for historical content as this was before the digital era. Listen to the Dutch language in the background and at the end of this clip I filmed a band playing in the downtown Amsterdam square. Enjoy and feel like you are there!!!

The feel
The Rembrandt's House is an interesting reconstruction of painter's everyday life, his living quarters, and his workshop. As always with reconstruction, the visitor might miss a bit authenticity. Nevertheless, the Rembrandt's House might be interesting for people who want to know more about the famous painter's life, his graphic work and about the Dutch Golden Age in general.

Film about Johannes Thopas by Rembrandt House Museum
Johannes Thopas (c. 1626 -- 1690/95), who was born deaf, is one of the few seventeenth-century artists to specialize in drawn portraits. From 11 July to 5 October 2014 the Rembrandt House Museum will be showing some forty of Thopas's finest drawings, more than half of his surviving oeuvre.
A film specially produced for the occasion will also be shown in the exhibition gallery alongside Thopas's sophisticated portraits. This film is intended for a wide audience but also for people who are deaf and hard of hearing and features Tony Bloem (SWDA) as the sign language interpreter. In collaboration with the SWDA, one of the oldest welfare foundations for the deaf in the Netherlands, the exhibition will focus attention on people with hearing difficulties. During the exhibition period there will special guided tours accompanied by a sign language interpreter who will explain the exhibition to people with hearing impairments.
The exhibition, which was previously staged in a slightly different arrangement in the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum in Aachen, can be seen in the Rembrandt House Museum from 11 July to 5 October 2014. There is also a lavishly illustrated catalogue of Thopas's work written by Rudi Ekkart and edited by Peter van den Brink.

Trailer Studio R @ Rembrandt House Museum
In response to the exhibition Rembrandt’s Late Pupils: Studying under a Genius, Non-fiction, a cultural innovation agency, has developed a presentation in the Rembrandt House Museum, titled Studio R. In this experimental studio space the relationship between masters and pupils in the history of art, from Rembrandt and his mentors up to the present day, is continuously being explored, discussed and visualised on the walls.
In Studio R artists and other experts discuss the current significance of master-pupil relationships. What do contemporary ‘masters’ like Olafur Eliasson and Marina Abramović have in common with Rembrandt? And to what extent can the Rembrandt House be seen as the precursor to present-day art academies? The live conversations are open to the public and recordings of it can be heard in the studio. Visitors can contribute actively by posting questions and adding new information to the wall.
