Places to see in ( Andalusia - Spain ) Museo Arqueologico de Cordoba
The Archaeological and Ethnological Museum of Cordoba (MAECO) , located in Cordoba ( Spain ), is located in the old Palace of the Páez de Castillejo and in a new annex building. Inside, a large collection of pieces ranging from Prehistory to the Middle Ages are preserved . Archaeological and Ethnological Museum of Córdoba is declared of cultural interest in the Monument category since 1962.
Museo Arqueologico de Cordoba , as is often the case with these types of institutions, has not been fixed in one place throughout its history, and has seen their collections moved from one building to another in the city.
It is in 1844 that, after the confiscations undertaken by the Spanish government, the archaeological pieces coming from the Cordovan convents meet in the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts forming what would be called the Collection of Antiquities (later Section of Antiquities ). This museum, initially located in the College of the Assumption, was transferred in 1849 to the Provincial Council and in 1861 to the Hospital de la Caridad, and with him all the exhibited pieces.
In 1868 the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Córdoba was created, which for several years would share headquarters with the Museum of Fine Arts . The physical separation between both collections takes place in 1920 , when the Archaeological Museum is installed in the square of San Juan. Shortly afterwards, the whole collection is transferred again, this time to the Mudejar house on Velázquez Bosco Street (now Samuel de los Santos Street).
During that stage in Velázquez Bosco Street will be in front of the museum Joaquín Maria de Navascués , Fernando Valls-Taberner and Blas Taracena - in the brief parenthesis of the Civil War - and Samuel de los Santos . It was this last one that impelled the transfer of the whole collection to its present location, besides promoting new excavations and the realization of a new inventory and catalog.
Under the direction of Ana María Vicent Zaragoza , from 1959 to 1987 , the museum was permanently installed in its present headquarters, the Palace of the Páez de Castillejo, producing a considerable increase of the conserved funds, the creation of the investigation service of urban archeology , the birth of the library specialized in archeology, and the publication of a scientific journal, Corduba Archaeologica . The Archaeological Museum of Cordoba becomes one of the most complete of Spain, being declared its building and collections Historical Artistic Monument in 1962 .
In order to renovate the Páez de Castillejo Palace , a Museological Program (updated in 1998 ) was drawn up in 1992 to lay the foundations for future enlargement. In 1998 an ideas competition was called for the construction of a new building for the expansion of the Museum, winning the project defended by the team of architect Pau Soler Serratosa. Work on the new building completed in 2009.
At the same time, archaeological studies were carried out in the annexed lots, where the old Colonia Patricia Corduba theater was discovered, as well as late-Roman artisan workshops and medieval Andalusian houses, which connect historically with the remains of medieval times preserved inside the palace and with the great Renaissance construction of Hernán Ruiz II .
However, despite the construction of a new annex, the restoration of the Palace of the Paez is still pending, with only the new building being open as a museum, when both should work to solve the problems of space. In April 2017, the Senate urged the government to restore the museum.

The institution was established as the Provincial Fine Arts Museum by the Province of Córdoba, which commissioned German Argentine architect Juan Kronfuss for its design, in 1915. Built on the western edge of the newly inaugurated Sarmiento Park, the work of Neoclassical architecture was completed in 1916, and originally included 255 m² (2,700 ft²) and one exhibit hall, the Kronfuss Salon. The Provincial Museum was renamed in honor of local artist Emilio Caraffa, in 1950, and new wings completed in 1962 and 2007 brought the museum's display area to 1,500 m² (17,000 ft²), distributed among nine exhibit halls.[1][2]info:

The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville or Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla is a museum in Seville, Spain, a collection of mainly Spanish visual arts from the medieval period to the early 20th century, including a choice selection of works by artists from the so-called Golden Age of Sevillian painting during the 17th century, such as Murillo, Zurbarán, Francisco de Herrera the younger, and Valdés Leal.
Seville Museum of Fine Arts building itself was built in 1594, but the museum was founded in 1839, after the desamortizacion or shuttering of religious monasteries and convents, collecting works from across the city and region.
The building of Seville Museum of Fine Arts is housed in was originally home to the convent of the Order of the Merced Calzada de la Asunción, founded by St. Peter Nolasco during the reign of King Ferdinand III of Castile. Extensive remodeling in the early 17th century was led by the architect Juan de Oviedo y de la Bandera.

After having an amazing time in Iguazu, we've arrived in Cordoba to possible the BEST AIRBNB EVER
We understandably spend a lot of time in our sweet accomodation in this video! We start by having a sushi and home cooking session with a decent bottle of Malbec.
We spend the next day exploring all the beautiful cathedrals and other buildings in Cordoba city, including:
- Paseo del Buen Pastor
- (the outside of) Evita Fine Arts Museum
- Sarmiento Park
- Plaza San Martin
- Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón (the cappuccino cathedral!)
We have a very yum burger from Argentinian burger chain from Mostachys and have a quick chill and watch people drink mate
We buy our own bombilla (straw for drinking mate) at Feria Paseo de las Artes and have our very own first yerba mate tea which Tom really likes
Plus one more empanada mukbang to keep the empanada theme going!
Finally we have a picnic and go back to our place for another excellent bottle of malbec wine and a chill
Who are we?
We are Tom and Yenny, two New Zealand young professionals who have quit our job and are learning Spanish as we travel through South America! We always like to travel on a budget so please subscribe to see all the places we go and all of our stingy ways of going there!
We love cooking, checking out new places, trying new types of food, beer and wine, camping, and anything else that we haven't tried (outrageous weird foods included!).

La Torre de la Calahorra es una fortaleza de origen islámico bajo el dominio musulman en El – Andalus , a la entrada de Córdoba capital de Califato, concebida como entrada y protección del Puente Romano de Córdoba (España). Fue declarada Conjunto Histórico-Artístico en 1931, junto con el puente romano y la puerta del puente. Visitors to the The Delaware Art Museum might find themselves wondering how a very large, nearly naked man got past security to check out the pre-Raphaelite collection. Upon closer inspection they will realize that it is one of the Ultra-Realistic Sculptures by Marc Sijan. These startlingly lifelike sculptures, are based on individuals Sijan knows well. His faces and figures capture movement and human emotion, as well as the minute details of individual appearance. Although the artist draws inspiration from the idealized anatomy of classical sculptures, his contemporary interpretation of the human form illustrates the gritty imperfections of average people.
Sijan breathes life into his sculptures through a laborious six-month process. After creating a plaster mold, he casts the sculpture in polyester resin. Sijan achieves a realistic flesh-like surface by coating the sculpture in up to 25 layers of paint and meticulously adding unique variations with oil paint, such as freckles, veins, and birthmarks.
The free-standing figures will be installed throughout the galleries to playfully engage visitors with the Museum's permanent collection. Ultra-Realistic Sculpture by Marc Sijan opens at the Deleware Art Museum November 13th and runs through January 16th.

Founded in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum is best known for its large collection of British

The historic centre of Córdoba, Spain is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. In 1984, UNESCO registered the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba as a World Heritage Site. A decade later, it expanded the inscription to include much of the old town. The historic centre has a wealth of monuments preserving large traces of Roman, Arabic, and Christian times.
First a Carthaginian township, Córdoba was captured by the Romans in 206 BC, soon becoming the capital of Hispania Citerior with fine buildings and imposing fortifications. In the 6th century, with the crumbling of the Roman Empire, the city fell to the Visigoths until the beginning of the 8th century when it was conquered by the Moors. In 716, Córdoba became a provincial capital and, in 766, capital of the Muslim emirate of al-Andalus. By the 10th century, as the Caliphate of Córdoba it had become one of the most advanced cities in the world, recognized for its culture, learning and religious tolerance. It addition to a huge library, the city enclosed over 300 mosques and a multitude of palaces and administrative buildings.
In 1236, King Ferdinand III took the city, built new defences and converted the Grand Mosque into a cathedral. The Christian city grew up around the cathedral with palaces, churches, and a fortress. Although the city lost its political significance under Christian rule, it continued to play an important role in commerce thanks to the nearby Sierra Morena copper mines.
The historic centre as defined by UNESCO comprises the buildings and narrow winding streets around the cathedral. It is bordered on the south by the River Guadalquivir so as to include the Roman Bridge and the Calahorra Tower, on the east by the Calle San Fernando, and on the north by the commercial centre. To the west, it includes the Alcázar and the San Basilio district.
Evidence of the Roman period can be seen in the 16-span bridge over the Guadalquivir, the mosaics in the Alcázar, the columns of the Roman temple, and the remains of the Roman walls. In addition to the Caliphal Baths, the Moorish influence in the city's design is evident in the Alcázar gardens adjacent to the former Grand Mosque. Minarets from the period survive in the churches of Santiago, San Lorenzo, San Juan and the Santa Clara Hermitage. The Jewish presence during Muslim rule can be seen in the La Judería district in which the synagogue was used until 1492.
The Alcázar, originally a Moorish castle, was adapted to serve as a residence for the Christian kings in the 14th century while the Calahorra Tower, built by the Almohads, was comprehensively reworked by King Henry II in 1369. The little Chapel of San Bartolomé was completed in the Gothic-Mudéjar style in 1410. Originally a church, the former San Sebastián Hospital, now the Congress Centre, was completed in 1516 in a combination of Gothic, Mudéjar and Renaissance styles. Other churches from the period include San Nicolás and San Francisco.
There are also a number of important 16th-century buildings including the San Pelagio Seminary, the Puerta del Puente, and the Palacio del Marqués de la Fuensanta del Valle designed by Hernán Ruiz. Also of note is the 18th-century Hospital del Cardenal Salazar with its Baroque facade.
Other historic monuments in the old town include the Episcopal Palace built on the remains of the former Visigoth palace and now the Diocesan Fine Arts Museum, and the Royal Stables built by King Philip II in 1570 as part of the Alcázar.
