Nicopolis (the city of victory) is an ancient city that was built on 31 B.C by Octavios after the batle of Aktio. The Archeological Museum of Nicopolis lies just beyond the archeological site, at the entrance to the city of Preveza.The new building complex, with a total area of 2,150 sq.m, consists of two main exhibition rooms of 200 sq.m each, a multi-use room, conservation laboratories, storing rooms, visitor service rooms etc. It is the best cultural heritage monument in Preveza. It displays fascinating exhibits of the long-lasting existence of the city in both Roman and Early Christian times. The museum contains collections of architectural parts and sculpture from the ancient city and offerings from the cemetery of Nicopolis. At the museum of the archaeological site of Nikopolis, a prestigious roman city – symbol of victory of Octavian at the naval battle of Aktio is displayed, as well as Nikopoli of earlier Byzantine years. In the museum the visitor can see a variety of statues and tombs sculptured the way ancient Greeks and Romans use to present their artwork,tools and local coins as Nicopolis had its own monetary system. If you want to learn the history of Nikopolis in an easy but comprehensive way, then you have to visit this museum. There is a timeline exhibit at the entrance to prepare you about what you are to see. The exhibits are divided into categories ( everyday life, house, death and burial, farming) and there is adequate explanation.Do not miss to visit the archeological site few kilometres away which is included in ticket price.

In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Demeter (; Attic: Δημήτηρ Dēmḗtēr, pronounced [dɛːmɛ́ːtɛːr]; Doric: Δαμάτηρ Dāmā́tēr) is the goddess of the grain, agriculture, harvest, growth, and nourishment, who presided over grains and the fertility of the earth. Her cult titles include Sito (Σιτώ), she of the Grain, as the giver of food or grain, and Thesmophoros (θεσμός, thesmos: divine order, unwritten law; φόρος, phoros: bringer, bearer), Law-Bringer, as a mark of the civilized existence of agricultural society.Though Demeter is often described simply as the goddess of the harvest, she presided also over the sacred law, and the cycle of life and death. She and her daughter Persephone were the central figures of the Eleusinian Mysteries that predated the Olympian pantheon. In the Linear B Mycenean Greek tablets of c. 1400–1200 BC found at Pylos, the two queens and the king may be related with Demeter, Persephone and Poseidon. Her Roman equivalent is Ceres.

The capital and the largest city is Heraklion. As of 2011, the region had a population of 623,065.
Crete forms a significant part of the economy and cultural heritage of Greece, while retaining its own local cultural traits (such as its own poetry and music). It was once the centre of the Minoan civilisation (c. 2700–1420 BC), which is the earliest known civilisation in Europe. The palace of Knossos lies in Crete.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Saturday, October 15: Departure from JFK airport in New York City.
Day 2-3: Sunday-Monday, October 16-17: Arrive in Athens. ”The gods could have lived anywhere: They chose Greece.” Transfer to Herodion Hotel. Explore ancient and modern city of Athens; visit the Royal Palace, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Acropolis, and Omonia Square. Greek folk dancing. Overnights at Herodion Hotel.
FIVE DAY CLASSICAL TOUR
Day 4-5: Tuesday-Wednesday, October 18-19: See Corinthian canal, archaeological site of Mycenae, and the theater at Epidaurus. On to Nauplia, Sparta, and the Byzantine site of Mistra. Dinners, Folk dancing with local Naupflia dancers. Overnights in Nauplia: Agamemnon Hotel.
Day 6: Thursday, October 20: Drive through central Peloponnese passing Megalopolis and Tripolis. Tour of historic Olympia. Dinner, folk dancing. Overnight in Olympia: Amalia hotel.
Day 7: Friday, October 21: Morning drive through Nafpakto. Visit archeological sites at Delphi. Dinner, folk dancing, Overnight in Delphi: Amalia hotel.
Day 8: Saturday, October 22: Morning visit to Delphi museum. Drive through Arachova, Lamia, and Trikala. Arrive in Kalambaka. Dinner, folk dancing, Overnight in Kalambaka: Amalia hotel.
Day 9: Sunday, October 23: Visit breathtaking cliff monasteries of Meteora. Rising from gigantic rocks, they appear as nature's gift to the pious who chose solitude and a life of worship. Lunch and Greek folk dancing in a local Kastraki restaurant. Return to Athens, passing through historic Thermopyle. Overnight: Herodion Hotel.
FOUR DAY GREEK ISLAND CRUISE!
Day 10: Monday, October 24: Leave Athens and sail from the harbor of Piraeus to Mykonos.
Lunch on board.

Chania (Greek: Χανιά, [xaˈɲa], Venetian: Canea, Ottoman Turkish: خانيه Hanya) is the second largest city of Crete and the capital of the Chania regional unit. It lies along the north coast of the island, about 70 km (43 mi) west of Rethymno and 145 km (90 mi) west of Heraklion.
The official population of the municipal unit (the former municipality) is 53,910, while the municipality has 108,642 (2011) inhabitants. This consists of the city of Chania and several other towns and villages, including Kounoupidiana (pop. 8,620), Mournies (pop. 7,614), Souda (pop. 6,418), Nerokouros (pop. 5,531), Daratsos (pop. 4,732), Perivolia (pop. 3,986), Galatas (pop. 3,166) and Aroni (pop. 3,003).

The Minoan civilization was an Aegean Bronze Age civilization on the island of Crete and other Aegean Islands which flourished from c. 2700 to c. 1450 BCE, before a late period of decline, finally ending around 1100 BC. It preceded and was absorbed by the Mycenaean civilization of ancient Greece. The civilization was rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century through the work of British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans. The name Minoan derives from the mythical King Minos and was coined by Evans, who identified the site at Knossos with the labyrinth and the Minotaur. The Minoan civilization has been described as the earliest of its kind in Europe, with historian Will Durant calling the Minoans the first link in the European chain.The Minoan civilization is particularly notable for its large and elaborate palaces, some of which were up to four stories high, featured elaborate plumbing systems and were decorated with frescoes. The most notable Minoan palace is that of Knossos, followed by that of Phaistos. The Minoan period saw extensive trade between Crete, Aegean and Mediterranean settlements, particularly the Near East. Through their traders and artists, the Minoans' cultural influence reached beyond Crete to the Cyclades, the Old Kingdom of Egypt, copper-bearing Cyprus, Canaan and the Levantine coast and Anatolia. Some of the best Minoan art is preserved in the city of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini, which was destroyed by the Minoan eruption.
The Minoans primarily wrote in the undeciphered Linear A, encoding a language hypothetically labelled Minoan. The reasons for the slow decline of the Minoan civilization, beginning around 1550 BCE, are unclear; theories include Mycenaean invasions from mainland Greece and the major volcanic eruption of Santorini.

Crete and a number of surrounding islands and islets constitute the region of Crete (Greek: Περιφέρεια Κρήτης), one of the 13 top-level administrative units of Greece. The capital and the largest city is Heraklion. As of 2011, the region had a population of 623,065.
Crete forms a significant part of the economy and cultural heritage of Greece, while retaining its own local cultural traits (such as its own poetry and music). It was once the centre of the Minoan civilisation (c. 2700–1420 BC), which is the earliest known civilisation in Europe. The palace of Knossos lies in Crete.

Минойская керамика — характерная керамика минойской культуры бронзового века на Крите. Отличается большим разнообразием художественных стилей — как вазописи, так и оформления сосудов. Благодаря такому разнообразию датировка периодов развития минойской культуры, которую впервые предложил Артур Эванс в начале 20 в., основана на стилях минойской керамики (позднее её Н. Платон на основании истории развития Кносского дворца). В настоящее время получает распрострнаение новый метод[1], основанный на геологическом анализе грубых, обычно недекорированных обломков керамики.
Критская керамика пользовалась широким спросом за пределами острова. Flight over Symi Port with my Drone.Symi island of the Dodecanese, Greece, is situated in southeast Aegean sea and northwest of Rhodes. While touring around the island you will see many churches and monasteries devoted to the Archangel Michael. The Greek Orthodox Monastery of Taxiarchis Mihail Panormitis is the most important on the island and second largest in the Dodecanese after the monastery of St John the Theologian in Patmos.
The monastery is located on the south end of Symi, situated on the seafront of the tiny village of Panormitis. It is a closed-in cove with a small sandy beach, protected by a narrow inlet that opens out into a wide harbour. The mountainous backdrop is covered with pine trees which give the area an ambiance of solitude.
The monastery is a large 18th-century Venetian-styled building with the highest baroque bell tower in the world. The facade of the main structure is white and it stretches along the coast on either side of the main gateway. In excellent condition, the Italians constructed these two rows of buildings after World War II. These buildings now contain holiday flats that can be rented by tourists visiting the monastery and also contain a bakery among other things.
Once inside the monastery main gate, visitors are welcomed by an inner courtyard decorated with exotic trees and plants and paved with 'hokhlakia'. The church dedicated to the Panormiti is on the left and inside contains the two-metre-high, silver-leafed wall icon of the Panormiti. The entire church interior is covered with iconography (of particular interest is the 'fall of the angels' mural at the back of the church) and is decorated with very elaborate chandeliers.

The exact historical date of the construction of this church remains unknown but some suggest that it was built around 450 AD over the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the pagan god Apollo. It is known for certainty that the existing church underwent a major renovation in the 18th century to bring it to the standard that is in existence today.
The monastery has two museums. One houses ecclesiastical art, and is rich in exhibits like pontificals, silver icons, Russian epitaphs, and ecclesiastical utensils, ship model offerings brought to Panormitis from far away by the sea, and one of folk art with important objects of the folk culture of the island relevant to fishing, agriculture, and shepherding. There is also a library with Byzantine manuscripts and editions of ecclesiastical, historical, and philological content, as well as a gallery with paintings of the landscape of the monastery and its two chapels. There is also a memorial to a former abbot, two monks, and two teachers, who in 1944 were executed for running a spy radio for the British commandos.
The monastery receives heaps of day-trippers from Rhodes, so if you really want to enjoy it in peace and quiet, it is best to wait until they have gone. The monastery's dorm-house can host up to 500 people. The only way to get to the monastery is via a ferry or excursion boat. If you are already on the island, there is a road that exists between the monastery and the town of Symi. This can take over six hours to walk or an hour using a local bus service or rented scooter. In Greek mythology, Symi is reputed to be the birthplace of the Charites and to take its name from the nymph Syme (in antiquity the island was known as Aigli and Metapontis), though Pliny the Elder and some later writers claimed that the name was derived from scimmia a monkey. In Homer's Iliad the island is mentioned as the domain of King Nireus, who fought in the Trojan War on the side of the Greeks. Thucydides writes that during the Peloponnesian War there was a Battle of Syme near the island in January, 411 BC, in which an unspecified number of Spartan ships defeated a squadron of Athenian vessels. Little was known about the island until the 14th century, but archaeological evidence indicates that it was continuously inhabited, and ruins of citadels suggest that it was an important location. It was first part of the Roman Empire and then the Byzantine Empire,[7] until its conquest by the Knights of St. John in 1373

The Romani (also spelled Romany , ), colloquially known as Gypsies or Roma, are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group, traditionally itinerant, living mostly in Europe and the Americas and originating from the northern Indian subcontinent, from the Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab regions of modern-day India.Genetic findings appear to confirm that the Romani came from a single group that left northwestern India about 1,500 years ago. Genetic research published in the European Journal of Human Genetics revealed that over 70% of males belong to a single lineage that appears unique to the Roma. They are a dispersed people, but their most concentrated populations are located in Europe, especially Central, Eastern and Southern Europe (including Turkey, Spain and Southern France). The Romani originated in northern India and arrived in Mid-West Asia and Europe around 1,000 years ago. They have been associated with another Indo-Aryan group, the Dom people: the two groups have been said to have separated from each other or, at least, to share a similar history. Specifically, the ancestors of both the Romani and the Dom left North India sometime between the 6th and 11th century.The Romani are widely known among English-speaking people by the exonym Gypsies (or Gipsies), which some people consider pejorative due to its connotations of illegality and irregularity. Beginning in 1888 the Gypsy Lore Society started to publish a journal that was meant to dispel rumors about their lifestyle.Since the 19th century, some Romani have also migrated to the Americas. There are an estimated one million Roma in the United States; and 800,000 in Brazil, most of whose ancestors emigrated in the 19th century from Eastern Europe. Brazil also includes a notable Romani community descended from people deported by the Portuguese Empire during the Portuguese Inquisition. In migrations since the late 19th century, Romani have also moved to other countries in South America and to Canada.In February 2016, during the International Roma Conference, the Indian Minister of External Affairs stated that the people of the Roma community were children of India. Πλήθος φίλων της εκδήλωσης, η οποία είναι ανοιχτή και ελεύθερη προς όλους, συντροφεύσαν τους Διαλόγους του ΙΣΝ στην πρώτη εκτός έδρας απόδραση και ταξίδεψαν στη Σύρο, γενέτειρα του Μάρκου Βαμβακάρη. Η επίσκεψη στη Σύρο πραγματοποιήθηκε με αφορμή τη θεματολογία της εκδήλωσης των Διαλόγων του Μαρτίου, η οποία ήταν αφιερωμένη στην ιστορία του Ρεμπέτικου.
Στην εκδήλωση, η οποία φιλοξενήθηκε στο γεμάτο ιστορία χώρο των Κλωστουφαντουργείων Σύρου Γ. Ζησιμάτος, συμμετείχαν οι Δημήτρης Μυστακίδης, μουσικός και Ε.ΔΙ.Π Σχολής Μουσικών Σπουδών στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων, Γιώργος Κοκκώνης, αναπληρωτής καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων και Κάρολος και Τάνυα-Βεανούς Τσακιριάν, οργανοποιοί. Οι ομιλητές μοιράστηκαν τις πλούσιες γνώσεις τους για τις ρίζες και την επιρροή που άσκησε το ρεμπέτικο στην παγκόσμια μουσική σκηνή, την κοινωνιολογική του αξία, την αργοπορημένη απενοχοποίησή του, καθώς και τα πολιτισμικά στοιχεία που μετέφερε από άκρη σ’ άκρη του πλανήτη.

Την Τετάρτη 25 Σεπτεμβρίου, οι ΔΙΑΛΟΓΟΙ ταξιδεύουν στη Θεσσαλονίκη και αναζητούν απαντήσεις ως προς τον χαρακτηρισμό «νέο Βερολίνο» που της αποδίδεται από τον διεθνή τύπο, τις προοπτικές ανάπτυξης, και τη συνύπαρξη παλαιού και νέου. Προσκεκλημένοι ομιλητές ανοίγουν συζήτηση για τα πολλαπλά πρόσωπα της πόλης που αποτέλεσε και συνεχίζει να αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς για τον πολιτισμό και την ιστορία όχι μόνο της Ελλάδας αλλά και της ευρύτερης περιοχής των Βαλκανίων και της Ευρώπης.
