MAMCO | Art Museum Experience
In this video I reflect upon a trip to MAMCO - The Museum of Contemporary Art in Geneva Switzerland. I share my thoughts and briefly discuss the different kinds of art that I saw there. Some of the artists I saw were Mai Thu Perret, Richard Nonas, Fabio Mauri, Franz Erhard Walther, Dan Flavin, Sol LeWitt, Richard Kalina, Jennifer Cecere, Miriam Schapiro, and Sam Gilliam.

Thomas Huber Retrospective at Mamco, Geneva
Vous etes ici (You are here) is the title of the retrospective of the oeuvre of the artist Thomas Huber at the Museum of Modern and contemporary art Mamco in Geneva, Switzerland. This video provides you with a walk-through on the occasion of the Nuit des Bains.
Since the early 1980s, the Swiss artist Thomas Huber has created a unique body of work whose imagery remained very consistent over the years. Huber's works show interiors of monumnetal architecture, impressive buildings in deserted cities, and pictures painted into other pictures. The retrospective at Mamco shows approximately four hundred paintings. The show is titled Vous êtes ici (You are Here) and spans around thirty years of Thomas Huber's career and is laid out chronologically. The exhibition also includes scale models, installations, sketches, and explanatory drawings. Finally, five panels have been installed in Geneva that show parts of Thomas Huber's fictional city Huberville. Thomas Huber: Vous êtes ici runs until May 6, 2012. This video provides you with a walk-through on the occasion of the Nuit des Bains on March 15, 2012. With a special appearance by Johanna Di Dio (thank you!).

Geneva Travel guide - Switzerland Charming Atmosphere
Geneva Travel guide - Switzerland Charming Atmosphere
Geneva is Switzerland's second-most populous city and is one of the world's major centers of international diplomacy, having served as the site of the initial headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Although the United Nations is now headquartered in New York, the organization still retains a large presence in Geneva at the Palais des Nations and many of its sister/child organizations, such as the World Health Organization and ILO.
Geneva was an independent republic from at least the 16th century until it became a Swiss Canton on 31 Dec 1813. This is a point of some pride to the Genevois, who still refer to their Canton as the République et Canton de Genève. A favorite festival is the yearly celebration of the Escalade, which commemorates a failed attempt in 1602 by the forces of the Dukes of Savoy to invade the city by climbing and otherwise breaching the city walls.
Geneva is still a very proud city. Some find it downright stuffy, although there is quite a bit more life to be found if you look under the surface, especially if you speak some French. Geneva is officially a French-speaking city, and the vast majority of the population speak French. All advertisements, information, and signs are in French.
Geneva, like most cities in Switzerland, is a marvel of public transportation efficiency. Transports Publics Genevois provides frequent bus, tram, 'mouette' (boat), and suburban train service to within a block or two of most locations in the city and canton. Public transport runs from around 4am until shortly after midnight. There are some night busses/trams available - but check your route in advance. By law anybody staying in a Geneva hotel/hostel is entitled to a free daily travel pass.
Districts of Geneva :
Old Town (vieille ville) and St. Gervais
Paquis
Plainpalais
Hopital
Eaux-Vives
The old-town is hilly and cobbled but can be easily visited on foot starting anywhere around the tour boat dock on Lake Geneva, or if you come from the Cornavin station, walk down to the Bel-Air island and continue straight on uphill to the old town. Crossing the bridge (Pont du Mont Blanc), you'll get to the English Garden with the famous flower clock and a sculpted bronze water fountain. Then you can cross the street (Quai de General Guisan) and go up the hill (on Place du Port and Rue de la Fontaine) and up the long stairway passage and end up behind Saint Peter's Cathedral. After visiting the cathedral, which is Geneva's best-known landmark, you exit the courtyard and be right in front of the Geneva City Hall. From there you can easily walk down to the Bastions Park where you will find the famous Reformation Wall memorial. This park is very quiet and romantic, especially at the beginning of the fall season, when the leaves start falling.
Geneva has a huge number of restaurants for a city its size, and the international community means there's more variety than you'll find in most Swiss cities. On the downside, Geneva is possibly the most expensive city in an expensive country. There are a lot of hotels in Geneva, but very few of them are actually in anything like the budget range. Hundreds, many right around the central Cornavin train station offer a pretty standard rate of CHF 135 per night for a single. If you arrive late and are willing to spend that it makes sense to look at the automated hotel board in the train station to find the nearest vacancy.

The Black Box of the Art Business
In Switzerland, covering an area of 120,000 square meters, Geneva freeport shelters tens of billions of Euros of merchandise. A tax free area where the world’s wealthiest, speculators, collectors and art dealers store exceptional wines, diamonds, and especially works of art, in the greatest secrecy. A secrecy that can allow questionable financial operations.
At a time when the secrecy of Swiss banking is under international pressure, art is the new shelter of hidden international finance. Geneva freeport is today a place linked to the concealment of stolen art pieces, money laundering, and tax evasion. Under the freeport’s rules, objects could remain in untaxed limbo, in theory, forever. Treasures have come and they have not left. What does Geneva freeport really contain? Let’s investigate the most secret vault in the world.

Sylvie Fleury (born 1961 in Geneva, Switzerland) is a contemporary Swiss pop artist known for her installations, sculpture, and mixed media. Her work generally depicts objects with sentimental and aesthetic attachments in consumer culture, as well as the paradigm of the new age. Specifically, much of her work addresses issues of gendered consumption and the fetishistic relationships to consumer objects. Critics have labeled her work “post-appropriationist,” and her books The art of survival, First Spaceship on Venus and Other Vehicles, and Parkett #58 (with Jason Rhoades and James Rosenquist), have been featured internationally. In 2015, she won the Prix de la Société des arts de Genève.
