Frankfurt Airport is among the world's busiest. Museum Applied Art Frankfurt
Museum for Applied Art
Frankfurt am Main, Germany / Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP / 1979 - 1985
The Frankfurt Museum for Applied Art (Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt), one of the most important international museums of its kind, was founded in 1877. The current collections embrace 5,000 years of the history of different cultures and include European handcrafts from the 12th to the 21st century, design, book art, graphics, Islamic art, as well as art and handcrafts from East Asia. The works are distinguished by unique aesthetics and technically masterful use of material. Light flows through the spacious rooms of the modern Richard Meier building, which invites visitors to interact and communicate. The rooms constantly reveal new perspectives on historical exhibits and modern spatial structure. Numerous special exhibitions use the dialogue with the architecture to create surprising presentations and reflect the multifaceted contents of the collection between tradition and the avant-garde. Meier’s world-famous museum building was completed in 1985. The architecture integrates the classic villa of the museum, in which the proportions of a middle-class summerhouse serve as the standard for the three connected white cubes of the new building. In order to put the villa in the spotlight in respect to content, it is to be invigorated by a new concept for its interior, which should make it a new meeting point in Frankfurt’s cultural life.
The character of the surrounding environment had a decisive impact on the form of this building, not only in terms of the topography but also in respect of the local doppel villa topology. Designed as a part of a new cultural district on the banks of the river Main – the Museumsufer – this arts museum was a transitional work in that it was part of the conversion of a residential quarter to public-institutional use. The accommodation of the program within the available site enabled the remainder of the area to be treated as a park, open to the surrounding community. Articulated pathways and vistas enabled the site to be reorganized in such a way as to overcome the barrier formed by the villas lining the Main River. The skewed organization of the plan was based on two intersecting geometries, on an orthogonal grid deriving from the Villa Metzler and on a discrepant second grid taken from the alignment of the river. The Villa Metzler is incorporated into the new composition by being inscribed into an open quadrant of its 16 square orthogonal grid. This initial grid was then overlaid by a second grid of exactly the same size, but rotated 3.5 degrees to correspond with the embankment. The superimposition of these two networks generates the formal order of the work throughout. The Villa Metzler’s basic dimensions and the proportions of the villa’s windows became the basis of the square metal panel module and fenestration of the new building. The general organization of the museum space gives the work a didactic character, with the visitor proceeding counter clockwise through a prescribed series of spaces, outlining the history of European decorative art. Specific openings are framed in various ways so as to sustain a sense of discovery through different apertures, while always permitting the objects themselves to relate to the scale of their immediate environment.

The cathdral, the river Rhine, the charming Old Town, a host of renewed museums, and not least the carefree Rhineland way of life, together make Cologne one of Germany's favorite tourist destinations.
The Cologne Cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. Inside are works of art from ten centuries. The crowning achievement is the golden shrine of the Three Magi. Twelve Romanesque churches also testify to the magnificence of Cologne in the Middle Ages.
Cologne was founded about 2,000 years ago by the Romans. Remnants of that era are still to be found everywhere: the city walls, its gates, towers; even relics of the water pipes. The Roman-Germanic Museum provides a deeper insight into the way people lived in ancient times.
A new address for art in Cologne is the museum district near the Neumarkt. Here the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum has found a new home. Named after its founders, its modern and spacious ethnographic museum presents treasures from cultures all over the world: South America, Africa, and Asia.

Frankfurt in ONE Day!
Hello Hoppers! Although I had been to Frankfurt many times (especially to the airport) I had never really taken a tour of the city. I was amazed at how much I was able to see in ONE day! My dear friend, LDEM, must take credit for this, as she guided me through the city like a real pro. Thank youuuuuu!
For me the best word to describe Frankfurt is BUSY. It is the business and financial center of Germany and the home of the European Central Bank. It has one of the world's largest stock exchanges and the third largest airport in Europe. Unlike most European cities, it has a skyline and so it is sometimes referred to as Mainhattan, getting Main (pronounced mine) from the river located in the city. Yet, it is a liveable city, offering a broad selection of shops, from high-end to discount, and a rich collection of museums and cultural events. It has excellent public transportation and plenty to do. Can't miss a visit to an apple-wine tavern or a stroll along the Main River. It also hosts some of Europe's largest trade fairs, including the Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair. So Frankfurt is a great city to visit and to live in!

John Baldessari: Hot & Cold at Marian Goodman Gallery by Arte Fuse
John Baldessari: Hot & Cold
May 3, 2019 - June 15, 2019
NEW YORK
Marian Goodman Gallery New York is delighted to present Hot & Cold, a new body of work by John Baldessari which will open on Friday May 3 and be on view through June 15, 2019.
Departing from the art historical canon to explore an entirely new subject matter, Baldessari focuses our attention on the physical world in this new body of work, featuring icons and events of natural phenomena which give new expression to the artist’s hybrid forms, exploring motif and ground and the relationship of painting to photography, image and language.
Intrigued by the activity and geometry of land masses, Baldessari abstracts visual conventions of landscape, playing with surface forms whose scope and scale provoke a sense of the sublime and the cataclysmic. Presented as diptychs, Hot & Cold unites polarities of surface and depth, chaos and containment, through counterpoints of subject, form and color, highlighting the dialectics of figure and ground, and positive and negative space. Moving from the single frame wherein he would work additively often compressing visual signifiers into one support, Baldessari’s new bifurcated form allows images to contest one another, allowing for an uneasy tension in their collision.
Through these symbolic inversions and transposition of fragments from landscape and photography, Baldessari creates a third reading in Hot & Cold with his application of found texts, taken from an encyclopedic collection of aphorisms and phrases.
John Baldessari was born in 1931 in National City, California. He currently lives and works in Santa Monica, California. Recent solo exhibitions include Learning to Read with John Baldessari, Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2018); John Baldessari: The Städel Paintings, Städel Museum, Frankfurt Germany (2015), 1+1=1 at Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow Russia (2013) and Video Works 1970-1977 at the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Netherlands (2012). Baldessari’s work was the subject of the major retrospective, Pure Beauty, which retraced his career from 1962 to 2010. Organized by Tate Modern, London, the exhibition travelled to MACBA, Barcelona; LACMA, Los Angeles, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York from 2010-2011. His work was included in the 47th Venice Biennale (1997), 50th Venice Biennale (2003), and 53rd Venice Biennale (2009) where he won the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Carnegie International (1985-86), the Whitney Biennial (1983), as well as Documenta V (1972) and VII (1982). John Baldessari has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the 2015 School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston Medal Award and the 2012 Kaiserring Award by the city of Goslar, Germany.

Places to see in ( Frankfurt - Germany )
Frankfurt, a central German city on the river Main, is a major financial hub that's home to the European Central Bank. It's the birthplace of famed writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose former home is now the Goethe House Museum. Like much of the city, it was damaged during World War II and later rebuilt. The reconstructed Altstadt (Old Town) is the site of Römerberg, a square that hosts an annual Christmas market.
Glinting with glass, steel and concrete skyscrapers, Frankfurt-on-the-Main (pronounced ‘mine’) is unlike any other German city. The focal point of a conurbation of 5.5 million inhabitants, ‘Mainhattan’ is a high-powered finance and business hub, home to one of the world’s largest stock exchanges and the gleaming headquarters of the European Central Bank, and famously hosts some of the world's most important trade fairs, attracting thousands of business travellers.
Yet at its heart, Frankfurt is an unexpectedly traditional and charming city, with half-timbered buildings huddled in its quaint medieval Altstadt (old town), cosy apple-wine taverns serving hearty regional food, village-like neighbourhoods filled with outdoor cafes, boutiques and street art, and beautiful parks, gardens and riverside paths. The city's cache of museums is second in Germany only to Berlin’s, and its nightlife and entertainment scenes are bolstered by a spirited student population.
Welcome
to the most international city in Germany, the largest financial centre on the continent, the historical city of coronations, the city of Goethe and the Frankfurt School… In brief, to the smallest metropolis in the world, in which there is a lot to discover at close hand. Whether this glance at the city’s home page is the start of a longer, maybe even permanent, stay on the banks of the Main, or if, as a business visitor, you only have a limited amount of time available: you will find that the city has interesting offers for extensive tours of the city, cultural enjoyment and attractive shopping trips waiting for you.
Almost one in three of the people living in Frankfurt do not hold a German passport. No matter where visitors come from, they will always meet people in Frankfurt who speak their language and a restaurant that serves their favourite food. The open and hospitable atmosphere in Frankfurt stems from its centuries-old role as a trading centre. This liberal and democratic tradition of the city may be one reason for the fact that people from very diverse cultures have lived here in peace with one another for a long time. They have all contributed to making this city shine slightly differently from every angle, like a jewel shines slightly differently when you look at it from different sides.
