Rare Russian icons on display in Moscow
The Pushkin Museum has put together a rare collection of 130 religious icons dating from the 14th to 16th centuries, known as a golden age of religious art in Russia. It's only the third time an exhibition of this type has been brought together.

A unique collection of icons from the Andrey Rublev's Museum of Early Russian Culture and Art risks being seized in the United States. Recently this collection was taken by the museum administration to a private U.S. museum founded by Gordon Lankton (on video). The Russian icons will remain in the U.S. until July 2011, the Rublev's Museum said on its website:
Such a conclusion was made from a speech by Russian Culture Minister Alexander Avdeyev on the Ekho Moskvy radio station, who said that as a result of U.S. claims to the Schneerson Library all Russian property not covered by diplomatic immunity could be seized in the U.S:
During the exhibition «Treasures from Moscow: Icons from the Andrey Rublev Museum» in Clinton in the Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton (Mass) an iconographer David Clayton, artist in residence at Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack (N.H.) has hosted Episode six 'Icons - the Art of the Heavenly Ideal' of 'The Way of Beauty'.

Established in 1967, named the Museum of Biblical Art in 1999, the MBA, is an art museum in Dallas, Texas that is unlike any museum in the world. It has a simple mission: To display art with a Biblical theme. Nothing of its size exists in the United States, making it a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. Diverse types of art are exhibited including bronze sculpture installations, drawings, fine prints, and oil paintings. Specialized galleries have been created for Biblical Archaeology, Jewish Art, Religious Architecture, Israeli Art, African American Art and Hispanic Art.
The Museum is a cultural crossroads, utilizing art for tolerance and understanding reflected in the various archaeological exhibits and decorative art from Israel and the Holy Land. The MBA's vision encompasses the classical arts with a call to beauty which emphasizes the Biblical figurative art illustrating the narratives of the Bible and a call to the study of classical Greco-Roman art, archaeology and architecture.

Exploring the Cosmonautics Museum in Moscow in 360

Russian icons 'windows to heaven'
Anyone who's been inside a church in Russia will have noticed the major role that religious icons play in Orthodox chrisitanity. Referred-to by some as windows to heaven, these man-made paintings require the highest levels of workmanship, with the best icons taking months and sometimes even years to complete.

The new regime regime even converted monasteries like the Novospassky monastery in Moscow into where thousands of prisoners were tortured and shot. Russia: One day only! Thousands flock to see revered Virgin Mary icon
Thousands of people flocked to the Church of All Saints in Novokosino, Moscow on Sunday to look at the Icon of the Virgin Mary's Belt (Greek: Cincture of the Theotokos), which is in the city for one day only. The icon was bought to Moscow with the help and mediation of the Foundation of St. Andrew, the Centre of National Glory and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill I. The icon was taken out of the church and marched around the area during a procession.

Moscow gallery unveils first Russian exhibit devoted to Raphael

Moscow's Pushkin Fine Arts Museum is putting eight works by Italian Renaissance painter Raphael on display.
The works have been loaned by various Italian museums and galleries including Florence's Uffizi Gallery.
STORY-LINE:
He determined the ideal of the earthly and heavenly and had an enormous impact on Russian culture.
Now, eight works by Italian Renaissance painter Raphael Sanzio have arrived at the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum in Moscow.
Born in Urbino in 1483, examples of Raphael's work dominated traditional European painting until the mid-19th century.
That's despite the prolific painter dying at the relatively young age of 37-years-old.
According to the Holy Scripture, to the Bible - a man was created 'after the image and likeness of God'. This high respect for individual it goes through all of the Renaissance era and Raphael's art, says Victoria Markova from the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum.
And he made this idea brighter and to the fullest extent.
One of the greatest Russian writers of the late 18th and early 19th century, Alexander Pushkin, was so inspired by Raphael's work that he frequently referred to painter in his poems.
Pushkin, starting with the poem 'Monk', that he made when he was at school, he compared Raphael by putting him into the range of top values of the world: The gold, the marble, Raphael. Pushkin wrote this at the time when he was entirely youth, explains Markova.
He didn't leave this subject. The name of Raphael appears in his different works during all of his lifetime.
It's the first exhibition in Russia to be entirely devoted to the Italian painter.
St. Petersburg's Hermitage Museum once had four Raphael paintings on permanent display before the Russian revolution in 1917.
But Bolsheviks who overthrew the tsar sold many art pieces, including those by Raphael, to the West.
Markova hopes this exhibit will inspire its visitors and remind them to not forget famous classical painters.
It (the exhibition) should remind all us that we have to respect, to love, she says.
To experience and do not forget our own classics for whom Raphael was a luminary.
The exhibit runs 13 September - 11 December 2016.

Russia: Firefighters battle blaze at Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow
Smoke billows from the rooftop of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow on Friday after a blaze at the home of the largest collection of European art in Russia.
The fire engulfed the private collections section of the museum. The two-story building is located on Volkonka Street in the city centre and was cordoned off by emergency services.
Twenty firefighting vehicles and 70 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
The fire which is reported to have started in the ventilation system has been now extinguished.
