Columbia Zombie Walk 2015
Saturday October 24, 2015. Columbia, SC. Mark it down....
Jägermeister Presents: The 5th Annual Columbia Zombie Walk and Afterparty in the Vista featuring Grüzer with Throttlerod, Mourning Arielle and Dr. Roundhouse. This will also be a benefit seeing us making a donation to Hidden Wounds with the proceeds from that night. If you don't know who Hidden Wounds is yet, take a moment and check them out. They're located here in SC and they do a lot of wonderful things for service members suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues. They're a great organization and more people need to know who they are and what they do.
We've enlisted quite a few folks to help us spread the word. With the help of our sponsors we'll be able to make sure everyone within driving distance and beyond knows about this. One look at the poster and you'll see that we've brought some serious partners along for this endeavor... We've got Jägermeister, Fox 102.3, Free Times, and the Biohazard Division of Palmetto Commercial Services. But wait, there's more! We have the Columbia Arts Academy, The Jam Room Recording Studio, the Art Bar themselves as a sponsor, Creative Characters, Hip*Wa*Zee, Copper Finch Tattoo Co., Strings Attached and Soda City Clothing Company and Custom Screen Printing! Man, what a lineup of sponsors! Every one of these (mostly) local businesses are giving us the means to make this a great event for a great cause and we don't intend on letting them down! Hipwazee will even be giving Zombie Walk customers 10% off on their halloween makeup purchases by just mentioning the Zombie Walk! Please support these sponsors. Without them this wouldn't be possible. (Might sound cliche but have you looked into advertising?!)
There's gonna be zombie/costume contests with prizes being awarded by way of items from our sponsors...drink specials, a raffle for a new guitar that is being donated by the Columbia Arts Academy...a photo section will be set up for friends...Freddy and Pinhead are sure to be roaming around... Who knows what else may happen by then!
To stay up to date and for more details on what to bring, what time, and the walking route through the Vista, go follow the Columbia Zombie Walk page:
Robert Kennedy took on Kern County sheriff
Video excerpt from feature film Cesar's Last Fast: U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy participated in hearings of the Senate Subcommittee on Migratory Labor that came to Delano in March 1966 to investigate the Delano Grape Strike. After listening to the Kern County sheriff explain how his deputies arrested peaceful picketers because they were being threatened by struck grape growers, Kennedy suggested, that the sheriff and the district attorney read the Constitution of the United States. Then the senator visited the Filipino Hall, the union hall, and local picket lines, unequivocally supporting the Latino and Filipino strikers. The next day, a core group of strikers embarked upon their historic 340-mile march or pilgrimage from Delano to Sacramento. The United Farm Workers is organizing an all-day celebration of the start of the ’65 Delano walking from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 outside Delano at the “Forty Acres” complex, now a National Historic Landmark. Woody Guthrie - GREATEST HITS (FULL ALBUM)
Download on Google Play:
Woodrow Wilson Woody Guthrie (/ˈɡʌθri/; July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) was an American singer-songwriter and musician whose musical legacy includes hundreds of political, traditional, and children's songs, along with ballads and improvised works. He frequently performed with the slogan This machine kills fascists displayed on his guitar. His best-known song is This Land Is Your Land. Many of his recorded songs are archived in the Library of Congress. Songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Robert Hunter, Harry Chapin, John Mellencamp, Pete Seeger, Andy Irvine, Joe Strummer, Billy Bragg, Jerry Garcia, Jay Farrar, Bob Weir, Jeff Tweedy, Bob Childers, Sammy Walker and Tom Paxton have acknowledged Guthrie as a major influence. Many of his songs are about his experiences in the Dust Bowl era during the Great Depression when he traveled with displaced farmers from Oklahoma to California and learned their traditional folk and blues songs, earning him the nickname the Dust Bowl Troubadour. Throughout his life Guthrie was associated with United States Communist groups, though he was seemingly not a member of any. Guthrie was married three times and fathered eight children, including American folk musician Arlo Guthrie. Guthrie died from complications of Huntington's disease, a progressive genetic neurological disorder. During his later years, in spite of his illness, Guthrie served as a figurehead in the folk movement, providing inspiration to a generation of new folk musicians, including mentor relationships with Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Bob Dylan.

Here we go again!
We board a flight from Amsterdam and in 9 hours we are in the Caribbean. After a layover of just a couple of hours on Curacao, we fly on to Jamaica. We land in Kingston around 11 am local time. The air is hot, but not too humid.
We have a 3 hours layover, so we decide to get out of the airport and go have lunch in Port Royal, half an hour away on the coast. It's a bit of a ghost-town, once a very rich merchant harbor, destroyed at the end of the seventeenth century by a powerful earthquake. It looks like it never really recovered…
We eat lunch in a small fish-restaurant, famous for its snapper. But I eat jerk chicken because I am picky with my fish, and the jerk-spices here are amazing!
Of course we drink some Red Stripe beers, and Simon and myself decide it's time to find some weed. It does not take long before we hit the jackpot: literally on the side of the local Police station, along the seaside, there are some barracks and shacks; inside a group of Rastas is busy cleaning and chopping weed and rolling it up in small balls, using rolling papers as containers.
We ask if we can buy some, and the guys are thrilled. It's cheap, less than 1 Euro per gram. But it's a bit bitter, very leafy, and we enjoy it just because it's been a while since we smoked in Amsterdam! Some of the Rastas in the back are smoking crack cocaine in a glass pipe, the smell is terribly sour. They ask if we like some, and we politely tell them we are just here for the ganja; they nod, and scream Jah Rastafari!
We sit and smoke a joint with them, and chat a bit about the local weed, and the cops. It's incredible that this is all happening next to the Police station.
We leave as soon as the joint is over, and we go back to the restaurant to join the rest of the crew.
It's time to get back to the airport and catch a Jamaican Airlines flight to Montego Bay, where our local contacts are waiting. The flight is really short, under half hour, and we arrive in MoBay before sunset. Bigga, Shanti, Nampo and Taleban are waiting for us and it's great to see them again; Arjan and myself spent some crazy days with these guys not long ago, during our scouting trips on the island.
These guys are a tight crew, and they are going to take care of us during the next days of this filming trip.
Nampo is a older Rasta, wise man, with lots of contacts and very respected.
Taleban, his friend, is a grower and a smuggler, a real pirate and one of the funniest guys we ever had with us during our expeditions.
Bigga is our driver/bodyguard, he's a man of the road and he knows who and what you need to know to keep us safe.
Shanti is a local singer, a reggae artist with an amazing talent and a great personality. I know him since he was 10 years old, back in 1994, when I spent a few weeks near where he lived with his father (the man supplying me with fine herb at the time). It was really special to find Shanti during our scouting trips back in July, he's now a grown up man… and I am getting old! Shanti will come along and make sure the soundtrack of our travels is inspiring and inspired.
We get the cars, two Toyota Fortuner, and we load up the mountain of gear we are carrying. Then we drive down to Negril in the sunset light, and when we arrive it's already dark. We decide to spend the first night at the Blue Cave Castle, a really cozy place on the rocky cliffs of Negril.
It's another true 1994-flashback for me, this is one of the places where I stayed when I was a 20-years-old ganja-traveler, already a Strain Hunter without knowing it…. Of course to make the flashback even more intense the same room where I slept then is available, so I take it.
It still looks the same.
We are tired from the long travel, and we decide to go for some food. Unfortunately the chef is sick, so we decide to find something not too far away. We hit a jerk-chicken stand by the side of the road and we eat like there's no tomorrow.
After a few Red Stripes and a few joints we go back to the hotel, where we smoke some good amount of high-grade weed, and some gum, the local finger-hash.
The weed is definitely an indica-cross, it tastes sweet and strong, and they say it's from a site not too far from where we are. We make a plan for tomorrow, and we go to sleep. Jamaica is great. It's a true privilege to be here again.
Jah Bless!
And now we are back with MisterX pics, the man is a true artist..... enjoy!

Inside Colombia's Temple of Lucifer
Víctor Damián Rozo claims to be the very son of the devil and has built a temple in Colombia dedicated to worshiping Satan. More than ten years ago, Rozo renounced his Catholic religion to give his life to Lucifer, who he considers to be the only true god. Since then, his mission has been to recruit Luciferian parishioners, congregate them in his temple, and link their souls with the devil.
On this episode of 'VICE INTL,' we traveled to Rozo's temple to be initiated in a bombastic ceremony of satanist purification.

Live Streaming Chicken ???? Coop Cam - Where YOU Can Feed Us Online! - Wildlife Nature Camera
NEW: Now you can feed us! That's right, you ????, watching on YouTube, you can give treats to the chickens any time simply by sending a super chat or a super sticker - and watch the food come out automatically! Any Super Chat donation will automatically dispense a treat and you can watch the chickens enjoy it! That's right, you can actually feed the chickens from anywhere in the world! To donate, you just click the dollar sign in the chat window - it's that easy! The donations are used to support the stream.
NOTICE: THIS IS THE MOST ADVANCED LIVE ANIMAL CAMERA IN THE WORLD. Read on to learn why / How it works.
HISTORY: Back in the Y2K, I had over 50 chickens and wanted to create an internet connected feeder with a live stream so people around the world could feed them, interact with them and enjoy watching them. My college roommates laughed, but I was sure there are other people out there that would find chickens to be as much fun to watch, and feed as I do. I've always believed that no animals are more fun to watch than chickens because they have an entire social structure that can be observed through the lens. I actually did have a live camera back then, but it could only support 20 viewers at once, and I needed a solid streaming platform and worldwide high speed internet to come into existence. There was also no good way to process payment for the treats, so I put the idea on the shelf for 19 years and waited for technology to catch up to this concept. Almost 20 years later, here we are!
For every 20 new subscribers, the chickens will be given an automatic 'treat' from the feed dispenser. The feeder talks to the YouTube API to determine when to dispense treats, and the camera automatically zooms in when the birds are fed.
DON'T WORRY! The chickens are fed more than enough each day and do not live solely on treats. Rewind and you can see them eating throughout the day.
The feeder is a custom WiFi feeder developed specifically for this project. You can see how it was made here:
The feeder is also activated using an app on an iPhone and every feeding is verified by watching the camera to make sure that the birds are fed.GATE: The coop is equipped with a one-of-a-kind automatic gate system. This gate is both automatic and manually operated. The gate closes half way at sunset each day. Then, after the birds are settled for the evening, I (or a moderator can volunteer to do so) will close the gate by pressing a button in either the iPhone app that was developed for this project, or by the Moderator Portal. The gate will automatically open again at sunrise. This is to ensure as much safety as possible against nighttime predators. The sunrise time is posted to the blue banner at midnight each night.
THE BLUE BANNER: The blue banner at the bottom of the page tells you important information about the chickens.
EGGS: There is a picture-in-picture view of the upstairs of the coop. You can see the chickens laying eggs throughout the day.
BIRD NAMES: The birds all have names which are displayed in the TOP RIGHT along with other information such as breed and egg color.
WHAT ABOUT THE WINTER? Chickens survive quite well in colder temperatures (unlike humans, they have layers of feathers - and also enjoy playing in the snow!) We do not have a heat lamp because it's bad for the birds, they lose their ability to regulate their body temperature if you heat them - and will suffer in the cold if the coop is kept hot. Their body temperature is 106F and their hearts beat at 400 beats per minute (which keeps them quite comfy in the winter!) They are free-range so they have the freedom to come in and leave the coop any time they want. Check out this info here to learn more:

Singer-songwriter Lissie goes it alone after being dropped by record label
(25 Nov 2016) SINGER-SONGWRITER LISSIE GOES IT ALONE AFTER BEING DROPPED BY RECORD LABEL
Lissie Maurus - or Lissie to her fans - was well on her way to making it big a decade ago.
She had a deal with Columbia Records U.K. and a first album that went gold in the United Kingdom and Norway. The record sold well, but when her second L.P. wasn't a commercial success, she found herself without a record deal and at a crossroads.
What kind of artist did she want to be? Was her pursuit of fame really worth it?
Lissie opted for the uncharted territory of the independent artist - based from an Iowa farm, no less. It is a more viable business model in this age when singers can reach potential fans more easily via music streaming services and online sales. But there certainly are no guarantees.
After Columbia Records U.K. dropped her, Lissie says she felt a little like she'd failed. But she said she also was relieved. Now she could do things her way.
By mid-2015, she took what savings she had and bought the farm she now calls home.
I think some people were like, 'Well that's weird that you're going to, like, leave southern California and go live on a farm in Iowa, but OK.' You know, but I just knew, this is what I have to do. I have a gut feeling about this, she said.
I kind of just told everyone, like, 'I need to re-evaluate my life. I'm not going to stop making music. But I need to rethink how I want to go about it.'
By the time she moved to the farm, Lissie had already written some new songs. So she called producer and bass player Curt and together, they wrote the title track on her latest album, My Wild West.
The record came out in February and was well reviewed. Lissie also recently released a live acoustic album, recorded at Union Chapel in North London.
Admittedly, she says, the traveling can be brutal. She's been touring in the United States and Europe much of this year. But because her overheads are low, most of what she makes in ticket and merchandise sales is hers. Financially, she says, this could be her best year yet.
I own all my new music, and I can go out and tour with just an acoustic guitar and sell out shows and, you know, come home and be like, 'OK, now I can put in a wood burning stove in my house,' she smiled.
Lissie's third album My Wild West is available now.

Inside America's Billion-Dollar Weed Business: The Grass is Greener
In a city with dispensaries as common as coffee shops, Denver is undoubtedly the epicenter of the legal marijuana movement. And if you’re in the business of bud, it’s a good place to be: Colorado accounted for a third of the country’s 2.7 billion dollar marijuana market last year.
But with being America’s fastest growing industry, comes growing pains. Marijuana is still illegal on the federal level, which has led to conflicting state laws, restrictive regulations, and endless problems for cash-only marijuana business owners and operators.
VICE News meets the investors cashing in on the green rush and finds out how fractured marijuana laws are causing the American market to miss out.
