TIBET: the Old city and Monasteries of LHASA
Lhasa is rightly one of the most dreamt-about cities in the world. This is not only because of its high altitude at 3,650 meters (11,975 feet) which means remoteness and limited accessibility, but also because of its over 1,000 years' cultural and spiritual history which leaves an impressive heritage that has helped to create the romantic and mysterious Tibetan religion.
In the Tibetan language, Lhasa means the Holy Land or the Buddha Land.
This video report offers you images of our visit to Lhasa. Images of the Potala Palace and the bazaar in Barkhor Street. In Barkhor the pilgrims walk in large rounds around the most important temple of Tibetan Buddhism: the Jokhang Temple.
Some Pilgrims repeatedly fall to the ground (prostration, literally pulling down, on-earth-repudiation) while muttering mantras. Prostration is very popular and common in Tibet. It is a movement to worship to the Buddha.
We visited the Drepung Monastery and the Sera Monastery. Drepung Monastery is one of the six largest temples of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The white buildings of Drepung Monastery scatter on the slope of the mountain. Sera Monastery, one of the renowned Tibetan Buddhist temples of the Gelug Sect (Yellow Hat) with it's Debate Garden.

5. The Dropa Stones Mystery
The Dropa stones truly make you wonder if this mysterious culture of people might have had some contact with extraterrestrials at some point in the past. These are a series of 716 stones that all date back to 10000 BC around, and were studied in 1958 after someone had realized they were in his storage. They were inscribed with detailed hieroglyphics-like markings and many people believe they are a hoax, since they are not being kept in a museum. In 1962, the markings were deciphered that told a story of a spacecraft that had crashed near the border of China and Tibet. The people on the spaceship were actually, the Dropa people, and were forced to adapt to life on earth since they couldn’t fix their spaceship. When they were examined by the Russians, they noticed very strange properties and even contained materials difficult for primitive people to possess.
4. Descendants from Tibet
When the Nazis began to gain control of most of Europe, an archeologist came up with an bizarre theory about the possible location of Atlantis as well as the original location of their German ancestors. Heinrich Himmler and his followers believed that all Germans and members of their culture were actually from Tibet, which led to expeditions to this area. Getting there was certainly no easy task, and the exact information they might have came across to come to this conclusion during this expedition is still quite mysterious. This shadowy project had scientists and archaeologists hunting for proof in this region. They thought that this was the true area where Atlantis existed and a master race once living here. After studying facial features of the local Tibetan people, they concluded that Tibetans were descendants of the people of Atlantis and were somehow linked to the people of Germany. Although the Nazis were of course guilty of having crazy ideas, this adds more speculation on Shangri-La and it’s possible existence of it being located high up in the mountains.
3. Rainbow Body Phenomenon
Also known as Honghua, this occurrence takes place after a great enlightened monk passes away but obtainable by anyone practicing buddhism. After striving to reach the status on being enlightened in Buddhist religion which could take someone’s entire life to reach, one supposedly turns into a rainbow after death. This has been noted for centuries and the rainbow basically displays the self-liberation from the human body and into the afterlife. Thousands of people have reportedly witnessed this and maybe this could happen to you too if you meditate enough.
2. Star Shaped Towers
No one can quite come to a conclusion on why these mysterious star shaped towers were constructed. Some can reach heights of 100 feet and not much is known about their origins. How old they are is also very well disputed. They’ve also withstanded horrific earthquakes that should have devastated them. The monks in the area, refuse to give up any information about them, suspiciously. Some claim that they were used as defense structures when the Mongolians were invading, other claim that they were built by wealthy families to display their wealth. Seems to make sense right? The towers were never mentioned in any documents and any recordings about these mysterious structures just don’t seem to exist! The explanations don’t seem to answer the most obvious question; why are they star shaped. And the enigma of these towers continue.
1.Potala Palace
Located in the the former capital of Lhasa, lies a mysterious, yet great building that sits over 2.5 miles above sea level and is a true relic of Tibet’s former greatness and power. At such a high altitude, it appears though it had to have been constructed by angels. Also built in the the 17th century, it took over 7000 workers and 1,500 artisans to construct this architectural wonder, certainly adds to its mystery. Another reason this is such an enigma is because it is so much different than other culture’s palaces. Rising 13 stories high, it features exactly 999 rooms and was once the center of Tibets government, the residence of the Dalai Lama, a monastery and a mausoleum for Tibet’s previous Dalai Lamas. Now it’s simply a museum that China uses to attract tourists. Tibetans seeking independence, often hold protests in front of this spiritually and historically important monument.

Potala refers to a mountain in India sacred to the religion, and for centuries its namesake palace has been at the core of Tibet’s monastic community.
Much of the current palace complex dates to the seventeenth century. But the earliest construction began a thousand years earlier, on the commission of a Tibetan king, in honor of his marriage to a princess of China. The growing fortress became the winter home for the Dalai Lamas, monastic leaders of Tibetan Buddhism.
UNESCO’s World Heritage designation extends to the neighboring Jokhang Temple, considered Tibet’s most sacred, and the Norbulingka, once the Dalai Lama’s summer residence.
Conflict led to the exile of the Dalai Lama from China’s Tibetan Autonomous Region in 1959, and the grounds became a museum. But the Potala Palace remains a major Buddhist pilgrimage site. Many travel long distances by foot to pay their respects. Potala is divided into the Red Palace, which is for religious use, and an administrative White Palace.
Visitors to Potala have to go with a tour group, and obtain a special permit. Once in, you pass through hallways lit by butter lamps, and into public areas watched over by monks. In addition to the historic structures, the heritage site contains a vast collection of sacred texts and works of art. Withstanding the elements and political struggle, Potala Palace remains an embodiment of Tibetan culture.

Lhasa Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Lhasa in Tibet.
Now an autonomous region of China,.Tibet is an intriguing and mysterious land of snow high up in the Himalayas that borders Nepal, Bhutan and India. For centuries it was a dream destination for scientists, adventurers and missionaries and, once almost inaccessible, it was a blossoming yet hidden kingdom. Lhasa, the ‘holy city’ and ‘place of the gods’ is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city. The Jokhang Temple was originally built as a shrine for a special Buddha statue. In the seventh century the statue was a valuable wedding gift from the Chinese Emperor to Princess Wen Chen who had it transported to Lhasa. Around seven kilometres west of Lhasa’s city centre is the old summer residence of various former Dalai Lamas. The Norbuling Ka, Garden Of Gems, has been deserted since the end of the 1950’s because in 1959 the last Dalai Lama was forced into exile by the Chinese. A pilgrim trail leads up to Drepung Gonba that was built in 1416 by a scholar of Tsongkhapa who was the founder of the Gelug Order. The Gelug Academy is the earliest of the four main doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism and the followers of this order are also known as Yellow Caps. Lhasa is a a city of gods on the roof of the world and is undoubtedly one of the last mysterious locations on Earth.

Mysterious Tibet
A kaleidoscope of my recent trip to mysterious Tibet .
Tibet & Potala Palace Inside, Secret, Facts and Mysteries
Potala Palace, regarded as landmark and the symbol of Tibet, is a great giant palace consisting of many houses, towers, chapels, etc. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Potala Palace is the highest place in the world. Because of its spectacular architecture style, it is honored as one of the most beautiful architectural building in the world. As the historic ensemble of Lhasa, Potala Palace, together with the exceptional Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka is the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The main buildings of Potala Palace are situated on the Red Hill by the side of Lhasa River. It is not only a splendid place, but also a treasure house where you can see precious arts and learn Tibetan culture and history. Because of its brilliant arts and history, travelers see it as the No. 1 must-see attraction in Tibet. By climbing the steps up to the top, you can see the great views of Lhasa city as well as beautiful plateau landscape far away.
Potala Palace’s history can be traced back to about 1,300 years ago since which Potala has been through several large reconstructions. It was originally built in the 7th century when the Tubo Kingdom ruled Tibet to house Srongtsen Gampo and his two wives - Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal and Princess Wencheng of Tang Empire.
After the fall of Tubo Kingdom, Potala Palace was almost ruined by constant wars until 17th century when came the most important reconstruction during Potala’s history. His Holiness - the Fifth Dalai Lama decided to rebuild Potala Palace. He received helpful hands from Qing Empire. The constructions took almost many years. At last, the Fifth Dalai Lama moved the government from Drepung Monastery to Potala, which made Potala as the political and Buddhism center of Tibet. Since the Fifth Dalai Lama, several small reconstructions had been conducted by the later Dalai Lamas. The main body of Potala Palace has remained as the same as the past.
Potala Palace is one of the most brilliant architectural buildings standing on the precipitous hill. Having a majestic exterior of 13 layers in the total height of 117 meters, the whole palace was built by wood and stones. The walls were piled by granite with a thickness of 2-5 meters. The roof and eaves are made of woods with beautiful carvings about Buddhism. Constructed by the white and red palaces, there are ornate chapels, halls, rooms inside. The palace can be divided to two main parts: the White Palace around and the Red Palace in the center. The White Palace was the living quarters of the Dalai Lama and the office to deal with political and Buddhist affairs. And the Red Palace is the main building for 117 meters, consisting of a complicated layout of different Buddhist halls, chapels and libraries.
