MYSTIC CONNECTICUT USA ( Mystic Seaport ) Brasspineapple Productions
Mystic Seaport or Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea, in Mystic, Connecticut, is the largest maritime museum in the world. It is notable for its collection of sailing ships and boats, and for the re-creation of the crafts and fabric of an entire 19th-century seafaring village. It consists of more than 60 original historic buildings, most of them rare commercial structures moved to the 19-acre (0.077 km2) site and meticulously restored.[1]
Mystic is a village and census-designated place (CDP) in New London County, Connecticut, in the United States. The population was 4,205 at the 2010 census.[1] Mystic has no independent government because it is not a legally recognized municipality in the state of Connecticut. Rather, Mystic is located within the towns of Groton (west of the Mystic River, and also known as West Mystic) and Stonington (east of the Mystic River).
Historically, Mystic was a leading seaport of the area, and the story of Mystic's nautical connection is told at Mystic Seaport, the nation's largest maritime museum,[citation needed] which has preserved a number of sailing ships (most notably the whaleship Charles W. Morgan) and seaport buildings. The village is located on the Mystic River, which flows into Long Island Sound, providing access to the sea. The Mystic River Bascule Bridge crosses the river in the center of the village. According to the Mystic River Historical Society, the name Mystic is derived from the Pequot term missi-tuk, describing a large river whose waters are driven into waves by tides or wind.

The Bridge:
The Mystic River Bascule Bridge is a bascule bridge spanning the Mystic River in Mystic, Connecticut in the United States. It carries vehicle and foot traffic directly into the tourist district of town via 33 ft-wide Main Street (U.S. Route 1).
The Strauss Heel-trunnion type bridge was designed by former Otis Elevator Company Chief Engineer Thomas Ellis Brown of New York and built in 1920 by the J. E. FitzGerald Construction Company of New London, Connecticut, according to its historical marker. Its movable span is 85 ft (26 m) wide, 218 ft (66 m) long, weighs 660 short tons (589 long tons; 599 t), and employs two 230 short tons (205 long tons; 209 t) concrete-filled counterweights. Until 1928, the bridge carried streetcars of the Groton and Stonington Street Railway.
It is operated by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and offers and opens for approximately five minutes around 2,200 times per year, carrying an average daily traffic of 11,800. Driven by two 1,400 pounds (640 kg) 40 horsepower (30 kW) direct current motors, its span is greased and inspected every 100 openings or two weeks during the winter. From May 1 to October 31 the bridge opens hourly during daylight at 40 minutes past the hour and on demand.

Massacre at Mystic (May 26, 1637)
The Mystic massacre took place on May 26, 1637, during the Pequot War, when English settlers under Captain John Mason, and Narragansett and Mohegan allies set fire to a fortified Pequot village near the Mystic River. They shot any people who tried to escape the wooden palisade fortress and killed the entire village, consisting mostly of women and children, in retaliation for previous Pequot attacks. The only Pequot survivors were warriors who had been with their sachem Sassacus in a raiding party outside the village.
Estimates of dead Pequot range from 400 to 700, mostly women, children and old men, as the warriors were out on a raiding party. On top of their being weakened from disease, the massacre practically broke the Pequots, who fled and were hunted down. Sassacus and many of his followers were surrounded in a swamp near a Mattabesic village called Sasqua. In the following battle, known as the Fairfield Swamp Fight, Sassacus and about 80 others managed to escape. Nearly 180 warriors were killed, wounded, or captured. Sassacus was eventually killed by the Mohawk, who sent his scalp to the English as a symbol of friendship.

connecticut tourism, Top 35 Tourist Attractions in Connecticut of the northeastern United States
Connecticut is the southernmost state in the New England district of the northeastern United States. As of the 2010 Census, Connecticut highlights the most astounding per-capita salary, Human Development Index (0.962), and middle family wage in the United States. Connecticut is flanked by Rhode Island toward the east, Massachusetts toward the north, New York toward the west, and Long Island Sound toward the south. Its capital city is Hartford, and its most crowded city is Bridgeport. In spite of the fact that Connecticut is actually part of New England, it is regularly assembled alongside New York and New Jersey as the Tri-state range. The state is named for the Connecticut River, a noteworthy U.S. stream that roughly cuts up the state. Connecticut is gotten from different anglicized spellings of an Algonquian word for long tidal river.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Connecticut's first European settlers were Dutch. They established a small, short-lived settlement in present-day Hartford at the confluence of the Park and Connecticut rivers called Huys de Goede Hoop. Connecticut was one of the Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. Although Connecticut is technically part of New England, it is often grouped along with New York and New Jersey as the Tri-state area.
2. Notice how quickly you pass through Connecticut while taking a road trip? That’s because it’s the nation’s third-smallest state. However, that doesn’t deter people from moving there. Connecticut is the fourth most densely populated state, and it also has the 29th largest population.
3. In 1901, CT passed the first ever automobile law. The speed limit was set at 12 miles per hour. Hold on to your hats, although if you were carousing down a country road, you could get away with 15.
4. Groton, CT, also known as the Submarine Capital of the World, is home of the official submarine museum of the United States Navy. The world’s first nuclear submarine, the USS Nautilus, is docked at the Submarine Force Museum.
5. The first ever helicopter was built in Connecticut in 1939. On September 14, 1939, the VS-300, the world’s first practical helicopter, took flight at Stratford, Connecticut. Designed by Igor Sikorsky and built by the Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft Division of the United Aircraft Corporation, the helicopter was this first to incorporate a single main rotor and tail rotor design.
6. Hartford is the capital of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2010 Census, Hartford's population was 124,775, making it Connecticut's third-largest city after the coastal cities of Bridgeport and New Haven. The city was founded in 1635 and is among the oldest cities in the United States. Following the American Civil War, Hartford was the richest city in the United States for several decades. Today, Hartford is one of the poorest cities in the nation, with 3 out of every 10 families living below the poverty line. In sharp contrast, the Hartford metropolitan area is ranked 32nd of 318 metropolitan areas in total economic production and 7th out of 280 metropolitan statistical areas in per capita income. Highlighting the socio-economic disparity between Hartford and its suburbs, 83% of Hartford's jobs are filled by commuters from neighboring towns who earn over $80,000, while 75% of Hartford residents who commute to work in other towns earn just $40,000.
7. Yale University is also in New Haven. Founded in 1701, it boasts the distinction of being the nation’s third-oldest university.
