California to New York: A Complete Road Trip
This is a complete road trip compilation from Santa Monica, California to New York City over eight different days from June-September, 2017 - all recorded in time-lapse at 4fps (nearly 100,000 frames total). Of the 3,253 miles (5,235 kilometers) driven, about 3 miles of this drive is missing, mostly in Colorado near Poncha Springs. Nearly all of this drive was done in daytime, but there is about 10 minutes of this video done in darkness in Arizona (about 1:00:00 to 1:10:00). The weather was good for the most part, except from Pennsylvania all the way to the Bronx, before clearing up in Manhattan. This trip also includes driving through the solar eclipse of August 21 in Nebraska (at about 3:30:00), as well as driving over the old Tappan Zee Bridge in upstate NY, which permanently closed a month later with the opening of the new Mario M Cuomo Bridge adjacent to it.

The highest elevation of the drive was 11,539 ft (3,517 m) at 2:28:10. The highest elevation anywhere on the U.S. interstate system is 11,158 ft (3,401 m) at 2:33:41. Both of these elevations are two of the three continental divide crossings; the other, at 2:04:38 (10,856 ft / 3,309 m), is the first.
The hottest temperature of this trip was 110 F (43 C) in Needles, California (about 0:40:16), and the coldest temperature of this trip was 53 F (11 C) in Tusayan, Arizona (about 1:10:04) - only about 230 miles (370 km) from Needles.

SoHo, sometimes written Soho, is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, which in recent history came to the public's attention for being the location of many artists' lofts and art galleries, but is now better known for its variety of shops ranging from trendy upscale boutiques to national and international chain store outlets. The area's history is an archetypal example of inner-city regeneration and gentrification, encompassing socioeconomic, cultural, political, and architectural developments.
The name SoHo refers to the area being South of Houston Street, a name coined in 1962 by Chester Rapkin, an urban planner and author of The South Houston Industrial Area study, also known as the Rapkin Report. The name also recalls Soho, an area in London's West End.
Almost all of SoHo is included in the SoHo–Cast Iron Historic District, which was designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1973, extended in 2010, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978. It consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings, many of them incorporating cast-iron architectural elements. Many side streets in the district are paved with Belgian blocks.
SoHo is part of Manhattan Community District 2 and its primary ZIP Codes are 10012 and 10013. It is patrolled by the 1st Precinct of the New York City Police Department.

This is a fast-paced 23-minute documentary history of New York City, narrated at rapid speed by renowned New York newscaster Bill Beutel and produced by the Museum of the City of New York. The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York City is home to more than 3.2 million residents born outside the United States, the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world. New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded by colonists from the Dutch Republic in 1624 on Lower Manhattan; the post was named New Amsterdam in 1626. The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664 and were renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790. It has been the country's largest city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the Americas by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a world symbol of the United States and its ideals of liberty and peace. In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity and entrepreneurship, social tolerance, and environmental sustainability, and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity.
Many districts and landmarks in New York City are well known, and the city received a record 61 million tourists in 2016, hosting three of the world's ten most visited tourist attractions in 2013. Several sources have ranked New York the most photographed city in the world. Times Square, iconic as the world's heart and its Crossroads, is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District, one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections, and a major center of the world's entertainment industry. The names of many of the city's bridges, skyscrapers, and parks are known around the world. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and the city is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization, the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Manhattan's real estate market is among the most expensive in the world. Manhattan's Chinatown incorporates the highest concentration of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere, with multiple signature Chinatowns developing across the city. Providing continuous 24/7 service, the New York City Subway is one of the most extensive metro systems worldwide, with 472 stations in operation. Marking the start of our 3 weeks in New York, I flew from LAX to JFK on American Airlines, then spent an evening exploring Williamsburg, Brooklyn to catch the sunset overlooking Manhattan.
This is a pretty easy and relaxed vlog as we settle into the bustle of NYC, catching some beautiful light overlooking the East River. I shot mostly with the Fujifilm X-H1 and 50-140mmF2.8 whilst at the East River State Park. The light was changing at dramatic speeds, so although we felt as though we were just capturing the same composition multiple times, each image ended up vastly different from the last.
I'm hoping to make multiple vlogs from our time in New York, so stay tuned for the future vlogs!

The Sidewalks of New York: The Documentary (CC)
This film is a documentary that begins with the tale of the famous tune and builds every moment toward the fascinating story behind Governor Al Smith, the most forgotten historical figure in American history. The elections of 1924 and 1928 are featured prominently in the story's second half, and along the way a handful of songs from the same time period are played to portray that, while this film is somewhat about the tune 'The Sidewalks of New York', the other songs do their part to lift up and bring the story home, all joining together to complete one of the most inspiring tales in New York history.
